used to live in Hobe sound on top of a dentist office, don;t think it;s there anymore on Beach street, Great video, don't think i have ever seen a brand new unit much less two in actual use!
@atsf3780 There is a pressurized air system that makes the horns and what ever you call the mechanicals that dispense material onto the track directly at each wheel etc. The system bleeds off extra pressure thus the pisst sounds. I have heard some units not SD's so far, but they go by making this random clicking sound that I am curious about. I'd guess a relief valve or something engine related. I don't hear it on this SD.
@atsf3780 Had to watch my own video again and noticed yep two 40s near the end were making a bunch of noise. Hope someone can tell us, I've wondered that also. Heard it often, but never from the newer rolling stock like the 70's, so far.
@dtunzzlistener where'd you film this? Im in citrus county in crystal river next to that florida northern branch that runs to progress Energy power plant. Lots of CSX through power with unit coal trains and occasional short locals with FNORR CF-7s
They are are graceful when everything is working right. So smooth. That's what it's all about, moving products from source to destination. Someone ought to come up with an r/c plane they could fly right in front of and above the loco with a camera in the tail. That would be some amazing footage. :-)
@TheMrBlinx Love that RC Plane idea. Got one? I figured that would be the only new thing I could do with this pace area. My old wagon had one of those rear facing seats. Would have been the place to sit with a remote as I drove so you could pilot the plane in it's own pace. Did you ever see GoPro cameras? Take a look some time, they offer these compact wide angle activity cameras. You can mount them on anything it seems.
I've been looking ar r/c photography and finding all kinds of posibilities, but you need something that can easily do 80 or so, and I don't know if a prop plane would do it or if it has to be a jet. If it's a jet, you are talking a minimum of $10k! You could probably launch and retrieve from the back of a pickup if you have a good pilot and one man crew. It would take some rehearsal and practice before a real run. You would freak out some engineers, but it would be a one of a kind video.
The question is how fast and far could a r/c go? Can a helicopter go fast enough? To get an idea of what can be done, check this out, I just found it this morning: /watch?v=TTDuGaTRiJU In fact, there are several companies making such beautiful videos that they are selling the videos themselves. Imagine selling (or just making even) videos flying in front and around trains where none other can go. They already have flying drones that send pics to an iPhone.
@MrPinto1970 Not sure, I do not recall. lol And this one is not going track max speed. Thanks for checking it out. I've got a few newer ones with a different camera, take a look if you like.
@Canesfan7012 It is a most excellent location for the "Pace". Especially in the summer when the days are longer and there are no Snowbirds visiting FL adding to traffic on the one lane stretch.
lovin it my dude... I'm from Homestead, FL. and I remember FEC when they ran through Homestead back in the late 80's before they removed the tracks for the MDTA Busway. I used to love watching them roll by blowing the horns feeling the vibration of the locomotives cruising. awesome vids dude keep'em coming I take it you're a railfan as well? what was the top speed he hit as you gave chase? thanks for the great vids man brings me back to my youthful days. with FEC Big Blue & White Locos
@soundwave000 This is in Hobe Sound Florida. East Coast north of West Palm Beach and South of Stuart if you look on a map. It is the old coastal road called Dixie Highway now A1a. This train was going north. Thanks for watching.
@dtunzzlistener oh ok, I live in Saint Lucie County, I see these beauties every day, though I kinda dont like the new paint scheme, but oh well. I much enjoy the pure yellow with blue lettering of the ex up sd40-2s
@soundwave000 I'd gotten kind of fond of the Rail America Paints with the blacked out lower area, even the super smoked out windows. Yet I'm with ya about the colors of before. I'd learned about the UP connection with colors but I also liked that paint job because it reminded me of the Chessie System Engine I had years ago while living in OH.
I remember when they first got those I was like WTF no way.
I've seen them with as many as 5 or 6 locomotives at night, one of my favorite bars has the FEC line literally like 20 ft. from the bar they usually roll through about 1 or 1:30am.
It is cold here today, I might just have to try and get a pace after work. Took this in the summer heat of Florida. I think your right, cold air has a definate effect on sound. Hope your having good weather where you are.
Thank You very much for enjoying and the excellent comment regarding this clip. Been so busy at work I have missed my normal run ups and paces with them lately.
