You'll also want to consider cleaning the fixed lens underneath the objective lens in the optical pickup. Dust can reside on the fixed lens, intercepting the beam. Cleaning is accomplished by removing the focus servo housing and then carefully moving a lightly damp cotton swab between the fixed lens and objective lens, gently rubbing fixed lens clean.

Another tip to help a problematic PS-2: cleaning and relube of the kicker mecha and pickup sled path on the traverse assembly.
