  • is it just me but I don't see this as a song of sadness and depression but of hope especially at the end

  • i,ve to leave for new zealand in the morning, i hope this country will see better days and that i'll have something to come back to.

  • WE ARE THE FIGHTING IRISH

  • Eastern Germany sharing the destiny of the Irish since 20 years - we export our best too. But the Irish will come back once to their native land. It will not happen to us.

  • This is so brilliant, I love Paddy Reilly's voice, he is magic !

  • makes everyone of irish think of where they came but it also a nice harmonious song to listen to

  • Great song.... reminds me of being in London many years ago.... never forgot my country...

  • Things will get better in ireland again one day, hard to imagine now, but it will.

  • to the muppets who think this is dubbed, you only have to watch paddy on youtube at the 1982 RTE folk festival to realise this guy does not need the technology that makes average singers sound good today. he is the real deal, a golden voice like so many Irish performers

  • @antoniousf I've seen him live in Detroit and you can't tell the difference between recordings and live as he is that brilliant. Unless you have been there to witness it you wouldn't believe how incredible and consistent he is a true golden voice as you said!

  • ledgend

  • great

  • What was or is "Live At Three" a t.v. show?

  • what is the URL for this? It was my grandads favoraite song and I was hoping to put it on his website please reply if you know, it would be much appreciated from a loving grandaughter.

    Thank you very much .

  • Does anyone know if Paddy still tours? I tried checking for a website for him or any information on him but no luck. I am from Toronto, Canada and had a chance to see him a few years back but didn't go and I really regret it. Can anyone help me with information about this great legend? Would really like to see him live. Thanks fellow Paddy fans!!!

  • @gordlightfootfan I am not sure if he tours any more either, I know he was ill a while back. I would also love to see him live too. You can get CD's of Paddy online.

  • machree01, thanks for posting this. Paddy is just great. Do you know what part of Ireland he is from?

  • @gordlightfootfan Paddy is a Dublin man

  • @machree01 Up da Dubs? Is he a true blue and a true Celtic FC and Ireland Supporter? Hail Hail Up da Celts.

  • LEGEND!!!!!!!!

  • To Elsigo - hope our brother found what he was looking for - job. Ireland is beautiful country and there is no need to hate her. Politicians and bankers it is another story. I had to leave my country too.

  • easily the best version ......in my opinion.....superb tone and diction......

  • Theres not many countrys we can go to now, most the world is in resession, and the places like canada that are not so affected by it want to keep the work for there own

  • My brother just left for Shanghai today, 6 months on the the dole, he's got a degree, HDip, MSc and couldn't get a single interview in this country. I hate Ireland and I hate our politicians and bankers even more. It's a disgrace that we're back to this again.

  • my name is Tom Sweeney............lol

  • this music should never be allowed to diminish ever

  • This song reminds me of Tom Sweeney the kerblayer and his wonderful sons and adopted sons the O'Rourkes...working away from home on Englands motorways......

  • Yea it's relevant again. now everyone who has been bashin the US will be flying out trying to get jobs in the US.Too bad there are none. The hand that feeds has been bittin off

  • remember this at the next election, lets get this government of gougers out.

  • the best version of this song, sad that's it' become very relevant again. Hope all of you planning to emigrate take care of yourseleves

  • When I left in '88 this was definately the song of the time for all us emigrants. It said it all. It just shows that folk music is not locked up in the past as many people think..

  • The wonderful Paddy Reilly !

  • Fantastic tune, Paddy Reilly could sing absolutely any song and do an amazing job of it.

  • Well said, you are absolutely right there !

  • class song

  • taintabird, you speak the truth, they've [government] made a mess of of the country, and held no-one to blame,a once great land is slowly losing it's identity to Brussels...

  • Too right dubguy the idiots that got us into this mess are either still in there big jobs or pensioned off with a huge pension and then they expect the ordinary working man and woman to bale the wankers out,

  • great music...and he has an ovation guitar

  • Song very apt for the times we live in, a lot of us left back then and it looks like its going to happen again.

  • Savage Singer and Song.

  • Sung as only Paddy can.

  • Sometimes this song sounds a lot like "Grace" about Jos. Plunkett and his last day of life with new wife Grace. Does anyone see any resemblence in the tunes? This guy is a great singer,.

  • Fine, fine music !

One of the my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers.

  • Great video again, machree01. You always come thru. I wasn't familiar with this version...awesome...touching and worthy ov viewing/listening to many times.

  • i cant get sound

  • It's playing alright, sometimes you have to wait till the red line runs it's course.

  • Does history repeat itself? You bet. How many times must the Irish leave Ireland? Only now there is no where to go. Maybe this is good because maybe they will be able to keep Ireland for the Irish and rebuild from within. The talent is there to do it. But there has to be the political will and courage to take it on .

  • I agree -but we have become cosmo. We have so many Europeans- "Ireland for the Irish" now seems an old rebel chant. New Ireland new era. I say that as a Nationalist living in the six Counties. Protestant vers. Catholic Ireland vers. England is no longer acceptable with me nor the young. And that's good. or "Does history repeat itself?"

    Regards to you

  • Cant agree that history directly clones itself as conditions and world circumstances are continuously in change, knowledge is advancing etc . At times similarites may occur but within a different world historical period.I think that the study of Dialectical-Materialism is perhaps the greatist guide to understanding this. This of course is only my opinion whilst others have theirs.

  • Beautiful !

  • he isn't singing here, it's dubbed from the studio recording. but no matter, his voice is actually this good live too.

  • It is not dubbed, it's the way it was uploaded on YT, thanks for the comment.

  • @machree01

Definitely dubbed. How they did things back then, and still do mostly. YT might have messed the sync, but you can tell from his fingers in several parts where the tune changes and his finger positions don't change to match. Also the vocal an instrument levels way too even for live, plus where are the rest of the instruments coming from? Finally when he finishes he does a second final strum which can't be heard, cos it's not on the recorded studio version thats actually being played.

  • @Elbownian fuck youre one sad fucker hi!
