where did you buy your engine. how much. have a blue chevy just like that i bought the other day and was looking for a 4bt.. my dad and i put a 6bt cummins in his 93 chevy 3/4 ton its 4x4 has 5speed and a stepside bed with toolbox inbetween the cab and bed runs great we were happy to get rid of the 6.5 in it.

I still have the truck in the video... ive bought it in 98 and i dont think i would sell it. I have some people want me to build them a truck with a cummins but no one really was serious and come up with the money. If you want one done we should talk... i have alot of ideas for future builds. I want to do a 3/4 ton suburban and swap a 6b in it and i found a clean truck that had a 6.5 in it so it was a perfect candidate, the deal with the truck didnt work out tho. Anyway... let me know

Actually All of fords motors are international, except for the 6.4 which was made by navistar (a subsidary of International) and the 6.7 which is made in house by ford. and the problem with the people thinking that ford owns cummins is not true at all. ford held a majority of cummins share's but did not own them.

i just jizzed myself, i knew the engine compartment for the 88 ,97 was huge to allow the 454, but damn why didnt i think of this, and ford dosnt own cummins they have powerstroke

I used the stock nv3500 5speed. Its held up well. I assume you have a 4l60, i am sure it would hold up ok if you dont tow alot but ive heard the 4l60 doesnt hold up behind a 4bt too well... i would look into a 4l80... Wouldnt be too big of a deal to swap and you would have the piece of mind .

I really want to do a swap like this. You told someone else its a little slow off the line, is it slower off the line than with a 350? what about towing off the line? I drive on trails with loads and trailers alot and I wouldnt want to sacrifuce my trucks already impresive capapbility with a swap like this. What about the drivetrian, is the 4l60e stout enough for the engine, or did you swap the trans too? I havent watched the video yet you may have already answered my question.

Its really not too slow off the line.. its just not like a 350. In my opinion it would be great on the trail an towing... tons of low end torque! The 4l60 would work but for how long would be the question... a 4l80 built up would be the way to go... not a hard swap either!

@dieselfidder80 cool, and about how much does that sucker weigh? Im not sure how much a 350 weighs but its got to be way less, I was wondering if you needed to upgrade the front suspension. And I was just thinking the 4l60e may not since its electronically controlled, I dont know how all that would work out with the computer since the computer would no longer work with the engine. converting to manual would be best, but theres too much involved with lengths of driveshafts and relocating stuff

Tach is working... i had to order a buffer from dakotadigital.. worked perfect. It takes a signal fromt the generator R term and turns it to a sigal the tach can use

its all a matter of how cheap you can find the parts and if your doing your own labor but they make an adaptor plate for a cummins to a gm tranny i say you could do it for 2000 or so

how did you mate the engine to the transmission???

You can get a 4bt or 6bt with a chevy bellhousing adapter. So i used that with a cummins to chevy flywheel and my NV3500 trans that was in the truck bloted right up.. i did have to modify the bellhousing adapter a little bit the fit the clutch slave cyl tho.

The swap really wasnt all that hard. I'd do it again in a heart beat! I gotta get a better video up as soon as i get a chance. As for milage i am in the range of 25 to 27mpg with the 5 speed manual.

What is you rear axle ratio? I my 91 Dodge Cummins i have a 3spd auto and 3.07 gears and I get 21mpg. If you went to a higher ratio you could probably get better than 27mpg but 27 isn't bad at all. Thinking of doing one of these swaps.
