I have a question, i have a 98 chevy extended cab that you can see if you go to my channel i have a video of it. Well i was just wonding, how difficult would it be to change that to a diesel truck? thanks.
Look at the 123itouch1 kid, if ford owned the cummins engine, im pretty sure it'd be an option to get on a truck. And you saying your uncle is one of the presidents of ford is like me saying my mom's the president of the united states. Dumbass you cant fool us, all that have ever been in fords are idi's and powerstrokes, not cummins
where did you buy your engine. how much. have a blue chevy just like that i bought the other day and was looking for a 4bt.. my dad and i put a 6bt cummins in his 93 chevy 3/4 ton its 4x4 has 5speed and a stepside bed with toolbox inbetween the cab and bed runs great we were happy to get rid of the 6.5 in it.
Okay so ford owns cummins hmm bullshit why would Dodge put a cummins In their trucks if ford owned it think dip shit before making yourself sound like a idiot i might believe that if ford put cummins in their trucks instead of international Powerstrokes
@123itouch1 who's the president? oh wait... ur UNCLE? not you? sit down. If Ford owned Cummins, why would Ford BUY the Powerstroke, when they can MAKE Cummins?
I still have the truck in the video... ive bought it in 98 and i dont think i would sell it. I have some people want me to build them a truck with a cummins but no one really was serious and come up with the money. If you want one done we should talk... i have alot of ideas for future builds. I want to do a 3/4 ton suburban and swap a 6b in it and i found a clean truck that had a 6.5 in it so it was a perfect candidate, the deal with the truck didnt work out tho. Anyway... let me know
Actually All of fords motors are international, except for the 6.4 which was made by navistar (a subsidary of International) and the 6.7 which is made in house by ford. and the problem with the people thinking that ford owns cummins is not true at all. ford held a majority of cummins share's but did not own them.
@dieselfidder80 :) Why would you? If you like something well enough, and it serves its purpose, why sell? How about going for a drive? I'd love to see how she drives.
i just jizzed myself, i knew the engine compartment for the 88 ,97 was huge to allow the 454, but damn why didnt i think of this, and ford dosnt own cummins they have powerstroke
I think there is some miss info out there... Ford had shares in cummins but doesnt own cummins.. cummins is on the NYSE CMI... anyone can own a piece.
I used the stock nv3500 5speed. Its held up well. I assume you have a 4l60, i am sure it would hold up ok if you dont tow alot but ive heard the 4l60 doesnt hold up behind a 4bt too well... i would look into a 4l80... Wouldnt be too big of a deal to swap and you would have the piece of mind .
I really want to do a swap like this. You told someone else its a little slow off the line, is it slower off the line than with a 350? what about towing off the line? I drive on trails with loads and trailers alot and I wouldnt want to sacrifuce my trucks already impresive capapbility with a swap like this. What about the drivetrian, is the 4l60e stout enough for the engine, or did you swap the trans too? I havent watched the video yet you may have already answered my question.
Its really not too slow off the line.. its just not like a 350. In my opinion it would be great on the trail an towing... tons of low end torque! The 4l60 would work but for how long would be the question... a 4l80 built up would be the way to go... not a hard swap either!
@dieselfidder80 cool, and about how much does that sucker weigh? Im not sure how much a 350 weighs but its got to be way less, I was wondering if you needed to upgrade the front suspension. And I was just thinking the 4l60e may not since its electronically controlled, I dont know how all that would work out with the computer since the computer would no longer work with the engine. converting to manual would be best, but theres too much involved with lengths of driveshafts and relocating stuff
i used the stock nv3500.... 4bt's can be found with a wide variety of adapters.... chevy man and auto ford, sae, chrysler... im not intercooled.. looking to upgrade tho
is that a little 4cyl diesel? why would u do this when u could do much better with a detroit or a 6.5L GM diesel?what brand is that little motor any way?
@DRNEGOLICIS Well then.. duh! Rephrase your comments... You quoted '' a detroit OR a gm 6.5 '' Misleading... Sorry for trying to inform you.... Sheeesh!
Cummins!!! I love GM .. not every motor they use is the best tho... cummins 4bt in a 1500 the way to go if you use it the way i do. Ohh by the way.. the injection pump wont leave you stranded on the highway!!
man how hard of a swap was this? id like to know because for an SAE project for FFA,im wanting to do this swap,im taking a 350 and swapping it with a 4bt,any info you could give me,like cost and stuff like that,it would be great appreciated, thanks!! (:
hey prob a dumb question but i got an 83 chev with a done up 400 small block. it got the turbo 400 trans or something like that with b&m slap shifter... will the tranny hold up with a cummins pushin 400 hp?
Thanks all for looking!! New video on the way... Its funny but i put the truck away for the winter and im doing some upgrades on it.. getting the a/c going and been noodling with a intercooler...
I have a 94 silverado and im lookin to soon put a 4bt in it, but i have no clue where to find a new one or slightly used one for sale. can anyone help me out
You're an idiot. Ford is comming out with there new diesel called a scorpion. I talked to a guy that works for ford and he was telling me about it. Cummins is NOT ford. Ford used to use them in there BIGGER trucks, im not sure if they do now. But in regular pickups DODGE uses cummins.
Tach is working... i had to order a buffer from dakotadigital.. worked perfect. It takes a signal fromt the generator R term and turns it to a sigal the tach can use
its all a matter of how cheap you can find the parts and if your doing your own labor but they make an adaptor plate for a cummins to a gm tranny i say you could do it for 2000 or so
A new video is gonna be comming up.. i am finishing a whole new 3" stainless exhaust... finishing welding the tail and hangers all up tomarrow... sounds bad ass
You can get a 4bt or 6bt with a chevy bellhousing adapter. So i used that with a cummins to chevy flywheel and my NV3500 trans that was in the truck bloted right up.. i did have to modify the bellhousing adapter a little bit the fit the clutch slave cyl tho.
i was seriously thinking about putting a 4bt in my wrangler...does it have any power or is it a total turd? and did you find an intercooler that will mate with the motor and still fit under your hood?
Nice vid. I want to do the same thing!! Did you have to do any major modifications?? Also, what kind of trans did you use and is the 4X4 still hooked up?? Thanks for reading my questions.
hey what power and speed to you have with this swap compared to the gasser and what engine did you have before. i have a 06 15000 4.3 5sp i am thinking of doing the same swap. very nice swap..
The swap really wasnt all that hard. I'd do it again in a heart beat! I gotta get a better video up as soon as i get a chance. As for milage i am in the range of 25 to 27mpg with the 5 speed manual.
What is you rear axle ratio? I my 91 Dodge Cummins i have a 3spd auto and 3.07 gears and I get 21mpg. If you went to a higher ratio you could probably get better than 27mpg but 27 isn't bad at all. Thinking of doing one of these swaps.
