I'm hearing some of your comments and I've looked at the bench and your miter stand, then I hear a guy talk about thinking he was organized till he saw you truck? Thanks for posting your work!
This stuff is nothing short of incredible! I am an innovator at my work, so I totally understand your logic, and your need for improved function. It also looks attractive! Very well done.
As carpenters, we spend more time with our tools than the projects we complete. I want to enjoy using my tools. When I see a carpenter show up with a pile of rusty, nasty looking tools, I instantly think that this guy doesn't care. Clients think the same way.
I am not sure if being organized and neat is a blessing or curse:) When I am building a house, I like it organized and clean from day one. I even make sure the dirt piles are placed properly. When the subs show up, they know their day isn't over until their mess is swept up and materials are stacked.
I just spent a couple of hours watching your u-tube videos ( re: your work bench, miter stand and your truck.) I thought I was organized until I saw your truck. I have been at it since 1971 so I can see when someone knows his trade.
Really nice work, Bruce ABH Stair & Millwork Company
Just wanted to say very nice work and congratulations on your daughters wedding. I only have one question after building all these exellent benches, stands etc. when do you find time to get any work done;)
Handy Stanley, the miter stand and work bench are adjustable to brands other than FT. I use FT so the conversation to alternates will be up to you. My Work Bench was set up for DeWalt, but I understand others have modified for Bosch. The miter stand as I recommend in the plans is best finalized with saw in place even if FT.
I first saw your designs from another contractor's YouTube video. Understandably you designed it for the Festool products. As a homeowner / DIY'er / woodworker I cannot justify the price for those tools. Can I adapt your plans to accommodate Irwin clamps and my Bosch 12" dual compound miter saw. My table saw is a Rigid r4510. Speaking of table saw - is you UWB flush or below the table saw?
I like your design because I also have to share the garage with everyone else in the family.
I have been kept from competing them, by too much work and my beautiful daughter getting married last Saturday. I should have more time now. I will post asap.
I was like, whats up with those weird saw horses? - Awesome to have all your stock right there! If you have high end clients tools like these are worth it.
Too bulky... not worth the hassle. 25 year finish carpenter. You would need a crew of guys just to carry it in. I have enough crap to carry in every morning. Invent a single tool that does everything I need to do in a day, and I'd be on board with that.
Do you think that stop is going to hold up over time, as it's plywood being drilled out and then tightened, and loosened, and tightened again.? I like the miterstand a lot.
Maybe make another video showing the saw horses only and how the stand mounts to them. I really think you did a great job here. I am about to build my own mitersaw bench very soon. I just picked up the kapex last week. I need a new stand asap.
I don't have a scale, but the UMS is roughly 1/2 sheet of 1/2" plywood. I lift them solo without straining, They are large, but much of the wood is strategically cut away.
I am working on "as built" drawings for both the UWB & UMS. I modified the designs about 20% during construction, plus I have some changes to improve my current design. I will figure out a way to make detailed plans available once complete.
all is good and smart invented, but only problem is , on rough underground and when its starts to rain

Looks great Ron, you must be pleased with the result and also the satisfaction of applying an idea and then creating it.

You daughter just got married? Well, congrats to you all. I guess you didn't lose a daughter, so much as gained a bathroom?
Cheers.

Ron-
Great design. How much do the UMS and UMS weigh roughly?
rovacon 8 months ago
Awesome design. The sawhorses really do seem to solve the problem of back-and-forth to the stockpile. Really need to make me some.
Great video too.

Nicely thought out. I can reverse engineer it, but would rather work from plans. Have you posted your Sketchup file anywhere?
