  • I like the way Jeep owners always resort to blaming the Jeep driver's off-road driving ability as to why their cars struggle! :D

  • this video is altered the cherokree did not get up on the first attempt. gherokee struggled for ages before video was altered. BS

  • It's too easy for the land rover the jeep is struggling badly though

  • sadly, in the united states, most land rovers have turned into big gas-guzzling city vehicles. 95% of them never leave the pavement

  • Jeep shit! Give me a Lanny anytime!

  • So, what I'm seeing in this video is that I made the right decision when I bought my Cherokee...

I did like the Rover's body roll though - kinda reminded me of my days at sea.

I'd be interested to see your LR compared with a 76-86 CJ-7...Might have been more of a shootout as opposed to that sorry wrangler.

  • that's a stock yj they can barely get over curb

  • i own both i have a 02 land rover discorvery2 and a 05 jeep grand cherokee been off road with both vehicals and the landy blows my jeep away off road although i like my jeep better over all the land rover has the advantage over the jeep off road anyhow but my jeep will eat my land rover up on pavement

  • yae but compare a land rover to a jeep rubicon that as diff lock like the land rover and you will see that it will fallow the land rover and more ...

  • jeep inspired the land rover, just a little fyi. jeep was first was best, still is. proud owner of a cherokee that STOCK blows many other "4x4's" outta the water. take your british land rover gay ass piece of shit to a tea party already and continue taking it in the rear from a jeep. only reason you made this video is to try and get some of your dignity back after the company bent you over and raped your bank account for all you have.

just remember, jeep won the war.

  • @articcat1976

"Gay piece of shit" - LOL have you SEEN what Jeeps look like these days!? At least LRs still have a butch aspect about them. And "Jeep won the war" is even more hilarious, TBH...

  • @cl998 yeah lets go buck for buck here. ANY LR vs the new grand cherokee overland edition. 60 000 dollars roughly. please tell me what LR gives you all the same options and still takes you anywhere you wanna go and i dont me just down Rodeo drive with your faggoty ass 22 inch rims. PLEASE! i would be gratefully delighted to see any land rover live up to HALF of the jeep name. you dont know a word of what you speak.

  • @articcat1976

Huh? First, I have no idea what "I don't me just down" is meant to mean. Second, I made no comment on a Jeep's abilities, they are good offroaders, , I was just talking about what they look like. Land Rovers and Range Rovers DO look like a "man" car (22" wheels aren't even an option either, dunno where you got that shite from!). Third, I think the US navy and air force had a lot more to do with it...TBC below...

  • @articcat1976

Fourth, more than half the name. You feel like a king when you drive one (and I don't even own one, I drive a BMW instead, so not some insane fanboyism here). Obviously people agree, people with money tend to not just waste it, "for the badge" or otherwise, they'll likely KNOW they can get a Jeep with more toys for less money, yet they still step over them for a Range Rover. This can go for pretty much ANY vid here of a EU vs US car. Wonder why they do that, huh? ;-) lol

  • @cl998 @ the i dont just me down Rodeo drive comment. me was meant to say mean. my bad. how ever i still insist that the jeep is better product over all, hands down. the jeep is more affordable. no driven by prissy little country club goodie goods nine times out of ten, or those who cant get enough of those stupidly large wheels that have diamonds in them and such. and has more options and better capabilities. to be continued again.

  • I would LOVE for you to hear what car and driver said about it in relation to land rovers and range rovers. the new jeep grand cherokee will hands down beat out ANY range rover or land rover in all categories no problem.

  • @articcat1976 BULLSHIT , stop spreading propaganda!!!

  • @articcat1976

But dude, the owners do that to LOADS of off roaders and soft roaders?? And again, I'm not gonna disagree with the other part, I actually like most Jeeps (esp. the old, square, Cherokee. It has "legend" status.), why'd they make them, apart from the GC, look so cheap nowadays?

  • Old landy just takes it in it's stride. It has nothing to prove.

  • dude u need sound and land rovers are deffinatly king of the off road hands down

  • He He HE! And they stopped making the series 3 nearly 30 years ago.

  • Coming from another jeep owner that is a piece of shit jeep it needs tires a lift and some lockers, even after you mod a jeep it will still be cheaper than a land rover. Plus that jeep needed a straight 6 with Dana 44 Axels with 4.10 gear ratio

  • While the Land Rover needs... nothing ;)

  • @Motobrad33 all these mods you list just to try and equal a standard series 3 landrover that has been out of production for around 30 years. ha

  • that land rover just mugged off everything else. best by far, wouldn't have anything else , think 4x4 thing land rover.

  • both makes are as good as each other all these stories about people getting stuck are probably all down to driver error when me and my mate got our discovery and suzuki sj we took them off roading and every one else was upgraded and we were stock and we were going everywhere where they were struggling. so blame yourself not your tools

  • see what happens when you don't know how to drive a 4x4?

  • When the grip ends even magic does not work work.

  • landies rule....

  • Postscript:- On this video it's all down to differing wheelbase and driver ability or lack thereof. If I lived in the U.S. I would probably own a Jeep. As I live in the U.K. I own 4 landrovers and if on the odd occasion I was to break one of them I could probably strip and rebuild the whole vehicle for the cost of a few minor consumable Jeep parts. Well , maybe a slight exaggeration, but over here the series and present defender models are primarily workhorses.

  • FYI Jeep as a company or model did not exist when the Rover company of England used an ex WWII 1/4ton( I think) g.p. (aka general purpose) vehicle which was built by many American motor manufacturers to a pre-war winning design from the Willy's company as a "mule" to test their ideas. By the time the first landrover went on sale it was built from to an all new design incorporating lots of items from the Rover car division. There wasn't a single item which was the same as the g.p. vehicle

  • FYI..the first Land Rovers WERE jeeps with a different body.

  • @erokbgordon The First Land Rover Prototype was built on a Jeep Chasis. Either way they both have history as military vehicles and are proven off road. So it comes down to driver skill and know how of the vehicle. Also what equipment it has such as lockers and gearing. To sum it up.

  • @vegasbud1978 Why you directing this at me? Did I forget to mention that I am American born and raised, know my history, and I owned a jeep for ten years. Loved it. I currently drive a Land Rover Discovery2. Love it. I have logged MANY hours off-road in sand, mud, mountains, etc. in many vehicles. I also know plenty about tires/gearing/lockers/etc. And driver skill. So I don't know what you are trying to tell me.

  • 90% driver & experience - 10% Truck/SUV

If you've never been off road. You wouldn't know how to negotiate rough terrain on your own. This is where experience comes in. I'm a Jeep XJ owner and have driven Land Rovers off road as well. Both have their strong pros and cons. Yes LR's are a little costly, but it can get the job done. Jeeps are cheaper and also get the job done. But that doesn't mean Jack if you don't know how to drive. Being a Jeep owner, I'm biased towards Jeeps, naturally :-)

  • looked like a reasonable example of better driving skill...on your part, above all other things theres 2 components that make a good offroader, no matter what the tires DROP the pressure...lower pressure = more surface area for the tread to bite and grip, and the second experience! nothing can beat experience...a guy who looks at that hill and sees the proper path to run up it without resistance is the guy that will make all the others look like they're standin still.

  • Landys all the way :) there unbeatable

  • math time!

old 80's range rover diso= 3,500$ poor condition (this is in my area not yours)

    newish 99 jeep cherokee= 2,500$ good condition

and i saw two good condition dana 44s with lockers for 500 the other day(random fact). so if i were to buy a 91 jeep in mid condition for 400$ which is no problem in my area

i could lift that jeep put in lsd and maybe new rims and tires for the same price as a decrepit disco for 3 grand in my area.

so by my math (jeep cherokee>range disco) also 4.0L ftw!

  • @sddragon28 Yeah i like Jeeps more too! :)

  • locker vs open diffs? i can't really see that being fair.

  • I can do more with my 2.1td cherokee, the weakest jeep ever build, than my friend with his 5 year old defender , I'm like his recovery vehicle most times, JEEP rules

  • @666iwein666 give us a call when you wake up from your dreams son

  • @666iwein666 AH, theres the reason, one of the newer ones. Pre TD5 ones are normally better

  • god, that land rover is ugly as balls. why would you want a rig that mounts the spare tire to the hood? haha greeaaatt design. and the mud flaps that drag on the ground? sweet. not to mention the grill that looks like an autistic 3 year that got its nose beat in. suuuuure upset I bought my jeep, which by the way, could have crawled right on up that hill. that jeep no lift, and open diffs. what did he expect

  • @Wrangler98TJ the Land Rover won, the Jeep lost. stop making bullshit excuses, only a fool judges how well a vehicle can perform just from its appearence.

  • @MrRavewolf my comment was not about performance, or making "bullshit excuses". I was commenting on how hideous that land rover is. smartass

  • @Wrangler98TJ Nah, Series IIIs look gorgeous

  • @Pyroman1990 agree to disagree

  • OK, this is not a surprise, Land Rover is a great brand!, but i am a little concerned about those jeeps, i still think that there´s something wrong with them, because i own a cherokee and it never behave like this, in fact, it is very solid and i have drove it in sand, stones, rivers, mud, hills, etc. without any trouble,.....maybe the transfer case isdifferent,....maybe the driver also.....hahaha think about it!

  • that was a beautiful sight

  • Can't stop to laugh at those all other 4by's ...

  • I love how all the jeeps are all throttle and the old series just climbs like a beast!

  • Jeeps like any other off road rig will be less capable without lockers as the jeep shown in this video. ANY properly outfitted rig could get up that hill easily as it is not that difficult an obstacle, especially if the rig is not driven by an idiot like the Jeep here. LR is pretty awesome, but Jeeps are still far superior.

  • @sszabo777 yeah that landrover is before the standard central diff.

i have a 1998 discovery and its drivetrain is stock except for 30" at tires (stocks are 29"). i was out one day with a group of rovers and we come across a group of jeeps.

none of these jeeps are stock, the closest probably was a good 3" lift from stock.

the jeeps were in front of us and couldnt make it up this hill, so they came down and let us up.

all of our rovers got up first time, my stock disco got up no problem, no diff!!

  • @napotnap was the reason the first vehicle had trouble getting up the hill due to not having T/C or simply have open diffs?

  • @TheOxTube Well, it can't have been T/C as the Series doesn't have that, and I'm sure it has open diffs, so I think we can say the Land Rover is better.

  • my landrover is 32 yrs old and still going.

  • yeahh baby, stick it in that low range, piss over anything. you don't know what your talking about until you own one and you will inevitably start to love your Landy.

  • amazing piece british engineering still doing what it was made to do in 1973. Land Rover are the best 4x4s in my opinion

  • landrovers are used all over the world same with toyota and even nissan but jeep are only seriously used in america

  • @godzillaisnuclea123 lmao...there is a japanese jeep ownership club in the heart of japan...many other places the world over...and have you ever wondered why jeeps are more numerous than land rovers?

  • maybe if the guy in the jeep shifted into low range he wouldnt have had a problem. out of the box a land rover is more capable than a non rubicon jeep but with a few thousand dollars you can make that jeep way more capable than the rover. I really dont see why its a pissing contest between the two they are both great offroad vehicles and I would love to own a land rover if they would bring a diesel power one over here.

  • @RovingLandRover idk man im just not into land rovers they look cool and all but i like something i can beat to shit and not worry about it but yeah land rovers can do alright offroad thier major downfall is ground clearence they bottom out easy the old one are pretty good because they sit higher but the discoveries need to be lifted to get anywhere

  • @StrainingDingelberry are you freaking joking defender's have insane ground clearance better than a cherokee and a grand cherokee.discoveries also have better clearance.a wrangler may have alot of clearance but you cant use them every day like a disco.

  • @godzillaisnuclea123 i would take a wrangler to drive everyday instead of a range rover they are one of the most unreliable vehicles on the market i have 320,000 miles on my xj and it still runs as good as it did the day i got it the cherokee has a couple inches more than the range rover the wrangler is actually shorter but the wheel base is also shorter making it harder to bottom out.

  • @godzillaisnuclea123 nothing can stop a good ol american made straight 6 the cylenders are straight up and down causing much less friction hell the thing will almost run with no oil in it land rovers tend to have many machanical problems i have owend them and will never get another one

  • Comment removed

  • @RovingLandRover now toyota on the other hand are fucking great i love those tacomas and 4runners i could see a toyota beating a jeep but no land rover

  • Respond to this video...Ha ur getting all worked up, go up to a auto shop and ask one of the mechanics what they think about land rovers, i know what they will say because i am a certified ASE Mechanic And Everyone in the shop used to get pissed when a land rover would come in, they would always break transfer cases and driveshafts and the engines blow up, they would think they could go offroad they would ask why it broke we would just say its not a jeep hahaha

  • @RovingLandRover the only reason they use land rovers and jeeps is because they are easier to get now still if u go to another country the real offroaders will still be using jeeps i hate to tell u i have been to the other countries and they are amazed at my jeep because they are fucking awesome the jeep is the #1 rated sport utility

  • @RovingLandRover ok were not talking about other countries of course they do because they are cheaper for them im sure alot of those people in other countries would love to have a nice cj7

  • @RovingLandRover and idk where u are from but wayyy more jeeps are used for law enforcement than land rovers. i currently took my buddy to floyds fork with his land rover and i had my jeep i will never do that again i pulled him out at least 10 times i got stuck once and needless to say his pos land rover couldnt pull me out so i had to pull out the hiLift i dont even have lockers and i coud do more hahaha land rovers DEEP THROAT NIGGER DICKS and so do the queer baits that drive them

  • @RovingLandRover jeep helped the united states win WWII it served all the way up to vietnam. the jeep is the longest surviving 4x4 the land rover was built on a jeep chassis. the jeep is one of the most durable 4x4 money can buy. land rover continues to get poor ratings. land rovers are all show but when you try and actually do anything with them they blow the fuck up, i have owned 2 land rovers and also a toyota 4 runner.

  • @RovingLandRover Actually ur wrong, would u see a landrover at a rock crawling competiton or a mud bogging show, think about it, if u knew what real off roading is you would change

  • @StrainingDingelberry Where do you live? that you haven't seen that

  • JA! That´s clearly... Superior engineering... That´s a walk in the park for the Rover!

  • @gonzccs

We know how good a range rover is off road don't we :-) youtube.com/watch?v=3ShJZnH3flQ&feature=related enjoy XD

  • I'de pick anything even a Geo Tracker over a Jeep. lol

  • who the heck would drive a stock jeep? 4 inch lift 33's and lockers and then we'll have a go! lol i'm driving a 15 year old jeep with 240000 on the clock, drive on salted road's all winter here in canada and she's still going strong... love the land rover's and wheel with a few... it all come's down to break over angle's, weight, traction.

  • screw you, jeeps were the first off-road vehicles , land rovers are just british army responses (which weren't that great actually) without mentioning that the british army was actually using jeeps during the WWII. LAND ROVERS SUCK

  • @arospeed169 jeeps are shit, fact

they were not the first off road vehicles, this is your American stupidity.

the british army used jeeps as they were cheap and so it dident matter if they got shot at and blown up.

  • @jamesmx7 american?!?!?!?!? JAJAJAJAJAJAJJJAJJAJAJ

    haven't you notice i'm british

jeeps are cheaper and more cheerful THAT'S ALL

  • @arospeed169 ok my bad. even so landys have more character and are easer to repair on the occasion that they do break.

  • @arospeed169 The SAS used Land Rovers in Africa, the Pink Panthers.

Jeeps were cheap and plentiful during the war years.

Notice how this Land Rover goes up the hill twice without slipping and sliding, it just eats it up.

  • Not convinced by some tetard drivers who can't haul off-road. Land Rovers suck and Jeeps rock.

  • @scottsman640 your a twat, ovs the jeep failed where the landy succeeded. point proved.

  • @scottsman640 The Land Rover went up the hill twice without any difficulty yet you say they suck.

I haven't got anything against Jeeps but come on, old Land Rovers can just go anywhere.

  • Still not convinced. These drivers are retards. Land Rovers Suck!

  • got locks napotnap?

  • * I NEED HELP * IF U THINK THAT A HUMMER H1 OR HUMMER H1 ALPHA IS NOT BETTER THAN THE LAND ROVER DEFENDER OR LAND ROVER IN GENERAL, PLEZ TELL ME, BECUZ THERE IZ A PERSON THAT'S TELLIN ME DAT THE DEFENDER CANT BEAT THE H1, AND I SAY IT CAN, SO GO TO THIS VIDEO "Land Rover Defender 110 vs Hummer H1 Alpha vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon" (WORD 4 WORD) AND I WILL TELL THE GUY THAT IM DEBATING, TO POST WHAT HE'S SAYING, SO YOU CAN SEE 4 UR SELF ON THE VIDEO,

  • Oh good, make a biased comparison between vehicles. Maybe the title of this video should be locking diffs vs open diffs...

  • @CanadaBud23 1973 Land Rovers didn't have locking diffs. I had a Series III lightweight and that coped with off-roading days on that sort of terrain no problem despite having no locking diff. Now I have a Defender with a locking diff, and you wouldn't believe what that can climb!

  • Beautiful

  • no vehicle can ever make up for sheer skill of a driver...i haven't off roaded too much in my life with my 95 Cherokee. but the damn thing does what i want it to do, and its cheap and affordable to run. and much like jeep Land Rover has gone for that whole lets make it a pricey, good looking leather clad, street stomper, instead of holding true to their offroad roots. which is a shame :( so by and older rover or jeep and hold on to it, cause there may come a time when yours is the last...

  • indiana jones would love to own that thing!!

  • The only factory 4x4 in a similar class is a Mercedes G wagon which has locking diffs all along the drivetrain but then expect to pay twice as much and try fixing a mercedes turbo in the middle of the Gobi - Land Rover every time!

  • cant believe a lot of the crap folks, mostly Jeep drivers, talk on here. I am glad I own a Defender. Small engines moving a heavier weight causes the engine to give more torque making Landys great for pulling and excellent gear ratios make them great for climbing - it'sjust good old fashioned mechanical engineering principles.

  • most jeeps arent that great apart from the new ones which are really good offroad

  • wrangler has open diffs

  • @n8iveracerx so does the LR.

  • Difflocks make a big difference as this vid shows

  • I know the owner; no diff locks on that Rover...

  • The Land Rover is shown as the true champion. You can't beat them when it comes to off-road.

  • lol just a name

  • no you were not,but with your reference to the ability of carrying "very heavy loads"i was of the impression that you were talking about the coil in general,as for very heavy loads iv always found coils to be ok for as you say light medium, but poor under any sizable weight, and once they break, your knackered, but i have got home running with two broken leafs.comfort wins hands down ,but as a modern design you,d expect that.

  • moron yourself, leafs are better for load carrying capacity, you will never see an hgv with coils, only leafs and now the new air suspension, but never coils.

  • Was I talking about HGVs? Don't think so, I'm talking about off road, expedition and light commercial vehicles. Coil springs are far lighter and more compact than leaf springs and can be made to carry very heavy loads. As I said before, also with better ride comfort, articulation and off road durability.

  • Would that series be in 1st low range on the way up the slope.

  • Comment removed

  • i drive a sieres 111,ok its a little rought on the ride, but you dont get no more solid than a sieres built land rover ,how many of your jap tin cans will still be running after 20,30 or 40 years on the road ,cus thats what your seires 1 ,2 and 3 are still driving around at.

  • @soledweller

driving one of the most unreliable and un trust worthy vehicles ever sure makes you insecure i guess!

as far as jap tin cans toyota actually has more 20-40 year old cars and trucks on the road than any other company out there. so dont give us your tin can bullshit, any landcruiser will outlast and outperform any similar landrover out there. theres a reason the W.H.O.the RED CROSS, the UN etc etc etc all use LANDCRUISERS. its because they always work !

  • @jimbojims actualy youl find that the toyota spares supply chain and worldwide dealer network is more numerous, hence the preference for jap vehicles,as for insecurities,oh please, thats a very poor insult.but remember that land rover have been making cars since 1948,and 70% of all landrovers built are still running.and i used to drive a isuzu trooper at work,so im familiar with tin stuff, but regardless of your opinion, right or wrong ,i have yet to see a 30 year old land cruiser on my travels.

  • @soledweller are you serious that you have never seen a 30 year old toyota on the road, where do you live? in canada there are 30 year old landcruisers everywhere as well as SA, AUS, NZ, USA etc

in canada they even use landcruiser diesels inside the potash mines and they are all 20-30 year old cruisers still chugging away happily.

unfortuantely you shouldnt base your experience on japanese trucks from an isuzu trooper, you shoulda spent more and bought a toyota.

  • @jimbojims whilst i wont contradict your fact on toyota usage in canada,i live in the northwest of englan,it rains alot in the northwest of england,we dont get much sun,its damp, and whilst idont doubt the winters are not even remotly severe as canadas,it remains wet and damp for most of the year, metal rusts, and with the exception of your mining vehicles which due to there labourious usage will be looked after no doubt, your average car will have to hold own.

  • @jimbojims also all the countries you mention that have 30 yr old plus toyotas on the whole have a sunny temperate climate,i have family in oz who ran an old holden for 25 years, now thats a big estate car that should have rusted away before the mechanics wore out,but as in oz the body was never heavily subject to corrosion.so maybe the reason i dont see many 30 year old toyotas is beacuse in my neck of the woods people use cars for everyday use, give em average maintainace and thats all.

  • @soledweller Umm LOts my jeep is 22 and still will go through anything i can through at it.

  • I love the Defender's low-ratio gearing. Just put it in first and let out the clutch and just steer up the hill!

  • @dan10024

  • i own a 18 year old defender and despite having an under powered engine it still keeps on pushing through the mud and rocks were others carnt go. i think these cars are more than the sum of thair parts and if anybody reading this drives one you will know that they have all have carictor and to own one is to love one. you may or may not beat us but we will still be there long after the campatition. keep up the good work

  • Forget Jeep they are all show off but incapable. Leave it to the Rovers.

  • @Rovertrek jeeps are for men rovers are for liberals

  • @Rovertrek you are a moron!! YJ has open diff`s. Add 2 true tracks and it will be BETTER than that old Rover! I like Landie`s, just can`t stand dumbass`!! olllllllo

  • @nate12345671 yeah but the land rover does it straight from the tin it dont need any sauce added!

  • Great driving! You could have climbed the slope with the Jeep if you had been driving. You really know a thing or two about off-roading and that can be noticed first glance by the way you handle the old LR. Congratulations!

  • ford ranger better

  • the best,no better machine than LAND ROVER

  • my friend got a jeep wrangle and fitted it with jacked-up suspension and monstor truck tires and i call him an dumbass.

  • boys thats how to off road in style, a series land rover. showed you how to do it properly. none of that jeep rubish.

jeep, short for a pile of crap.

  • jeeps are crap. end off

  • its the extra weight in the back of the landie thats helping as well, pushing rear wheels into the ground where they get plenty of grip, always surprises folk when these museum pieces out perform so many 'modern' motors

  • see people?the land rover went up very easily, not like the jeep laredo, hahahah, what a shame for jeep, like it wasnt 4x4

  • boys you got fuckin owned by the landie

  • I am sorry, but if that jeep cant get up that bump, thats sad...not a big fan of the land rover, but there ok..My philosophy, is EVERY SINGLE OFFROAD CAR HAS ITS DOWN FALLS, there is no brand ,model,or truck that is THE BEST, I dont even think like that, personally I like the hummer, BUT I KNOW THAT IT HAS ITS DOWN FALLS, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER CAR

  • Haha jeeps are crap!

    Good old landies!!

  • This vid is a good example of why I hated wheeling a Jeep. You have to get a lot of momentum with a stock jeep and it takes the safety and control of the vehicle out of the drivers hands.

  • well than most are gargage. land rover and montero is were the real off roading is!

  • wranglers are garbageeeee

  • Stock wrangler YJ's are garbage. Not every Wrangler.

  • HAHAHA, that is great, I love seeing what looks like a 1973 Series Land Rover own some 90's and possibly 00's jeeps. I like how that Rover is atleast 20 years older than both of the jeep

  • I used to own land rovers but now I have a wrangler JK unlimited. Land Rover have lost there way. check out how close to the ground the rear A-arms are on the range rover sport and discovery 3 and you will see my point. Defender is still doing well. just a shame its missing a rear diff lock.

  • Stock LR3's come with rear lockers and that A Arm isn't all that bad. I just went off road with an LR3 and it was insane, only issue we had was when we layed it into a wall and destroyed the side:) But stock LR3's with some tires will blow your mind, it's also over 40k though

  • also, I will be putting together a video of that trip with the LR3 and my Range Rover soon, I just need to get the video off my camera and on my computer

  • Im not disputing that they are good but that A-arm clearance is a glaring design flaw that could have easily been avoided. It hangs lower than leaf springs on a series land rover and they are aweful in ruts unless thay have 35''s. I got a set of 32''s to fit my Dads supercharged sport and its better but still is a problem.

  • Supercharged Sport, NICE! The fair observation o nthe A arm, but then again, Rover's aren't mud boggers, their more of the rock climbing, trail riding take you to the Ritz Carlton and to a hard to reach lake in the woods that noone knows about :)

  • Well my friend im very pleased that all of your replies to my comments have been polite and non malicious. Most people who reply to my comments get very defensive and aggressive but You kept your cool and I thank you and respect you, your comments and your opinions. I still like Land Rover because I am English but im Lovin my 2.8 JK Unlimited on 35''s right now. Lets hope the next Defender retains its roots. Land Rover and Jeep forever.

  • How does the handling and ride quality compare to a wrangler or cherokee in the mud? I'm just curious because I really like the way land rovers look but I know nothing about them. I've only driven jeeps.

  • It depends on many factors like tires and suspension. My friend had a 4.0 cherokee and I liked the feeling of the light weight of the vehicle and It never seemed to get badly stuck because it was so light but the wheel wells were too small for big tires. My Unlimited JK feels similar to My old 110 but it handles better and it clears 35"s easier and gets 28-34mpg. My only major gripe with the JK is that the fuel tank hangs down like the keel of a boat.

  • I hate to think what land rover will do to the next defender. Especially after the disco saga!

  • When You consider that the new freelander/LR2 has more A-arm clearance than the Discovery 3/LR3 and Range Rover Sport you can't help but feel that things are going wrong. The Freelander is built on the ford C1 platform which is derived from normal cars yet it has more ground clearance than a "purpose built 4x4" aka "The best 4x4xfar". Come on Land Rover get it together ! ! ! P.S. Dont fuck up the new Defender or you will FAIL more than you already have.

  • One thing I will pick you up on is that Land Rovers are/should be made to be mud boggers. Anyone who goes off road in the UK knows that the majority of our trails are Mud and Heavily Rutted. Being Native to this country Land Rover should have took this into consideration.

  • Lets not forget tire width guys.

Those Jeeps have fatter tires than the LR, fatter tires reduce your traction because you have less weight on the ground at each wheel thus you "float" ontop of the ground instead of sinking in a little and bitting the ground.

Fat tires are good for mudding and rock crawling but thats it.

  • one thing about this video is what suspension do u have, that made u crawl that hill. cuase u compare a front end independ of a jeep to the leafs in the back ull always have a bounce in the back with a lil less traction. but in the rover. it looks to me that u have a ll independt suspension. great comparision. how about u tow one another and then see who wins. jeeps all the way the older the better. 88 xj mobster.

  • thats a series IIA it has leaf suspension all round unless its been converted it also has beam axles front and rear its impossible for it to be independant suspension the trick is that the land rovers low range gearing is lower than the jeeps meaning it is slower and climbs easier

  • the wheel base is a big deal too

  • well done youve found 1 reason to own a land rover. how about the 500 reasons not to.

  • its not about who makes the best 4x4

    (jeep,land rover,hummer,unimog,ect)

it also about the drive and the skill that he or she has. not just pushing the throttle to the floor in high gear. thats how you find out who has the most money to spend.

if you can make it with out breaking it then you have a good 4x4.

  • am the first to apreciate the conection with jeep and landrover. but would have a landy any day purely because it's british made and able to go where i want it to.

i guess the americans would say similar about the jeep.

this video shows that diffrent vehicles need slightly diffrent skills for them to do the same thats all.

  • i think its funny that people always trash jeeps, saying their landys are better, but what you fail to realize is, land rover would not exist without jeep, neither would most toyota 4x4's so dont hate on jeeps, we're the originals

  • actually the ugliest 4x4 is the porsche cayenne :)

  • the land rover is a man car! if you dont a land rover you have a gay car!

  • The Series, Defender and Discovery Land Rovers are just the best. Especially the good ol Defender. :)

  • Shows why Landys are the best 4x4xFar.

It just drove straight up like the hill wasn't even there - unlike the Jeeps that had to be thrashed to buggery to get them up.

  • @ChrisLR2 spend a grand on lockers and it wouldn't be any different

  • idk what identity247 is talkin about when he says both models of the jeep were crap and that they struggled. Yea the wrangler sure did, but that cherokee!!?? it never even thought about stoppin. and yea the wheels spun but thats because he floored that shit up the hill n never stoped. BA!

  • Interesting movie. Too bad the XJ should have got some more camera time. Should definitely bring those 3 vehicles to an area thats more than just a dirt hill. Would be cool to see which one is the victor then.

  • you gotta love the series .....makes it look easy!!

  • old range rover is da boss

  • is it a diesel or a petrol in the land rover

  • Gotta love Land Rovers. They truely are the very best at what they do. I remember growing up in Kenya, and let me tell you, the only thing people would buy out there were Land Rovers and Land Cruisers. I don't remember ever seeing a Rangey or a Jeep ploughing through thick mud, traversing steep terrain or rambling through a game preserve out there during my time there. Besides there are more Land Rovers still in use today than any other vehicle.

  • Its unfortunate that the new ones are heaping piles...

  • as a matter of fact, they are not. Besides they still make the land rover defender, not as rugged but just as good!!.

  • That's true, its just not available here in Canada, so the ones I see are mall crawlers.
