It is a fairly comfortable wheel. It is not the most comfortable though with mostly plastic parts.

I have this wheel and yes it does have paddle shifters on the back but not as good as those on the Logitech G27. The G27 is more advanced but also costs 2x as much. For the money the Driving Force GT is a good buy, especially if you can get it for $100 or less.

My Review:

Ive owned a DFGT for a year and its great - apart from the fact that my shifter is making a metal noise and is able to twist left and right (Note it might just be my aggresive driving style that has caused it to get left and right.) Anyway its a budget G25 basically.

I really do not recommend using it just on your lap. The force feedback would make it difficult, and the peddles and all... It would just be very uncomfortable and difficult.

You do not need a desk per se though, the wheel can clamp to just about anything, has a brilliant built in clamping system for about any surface, as long as it can grip the underside of it.

Just got mine ordered, this will be my first racing wheel and I'm very anxious to see how well it performs. The only thing I'm worried about is the length of the cord, I have a projector setup with an Epson 8350 and it is HELL to wire everything, the ps3 is actually above the projector in the attic (I have an old model ps3 which is quite noisey, that is why it's in the attic) which means I'll be doing some in-wall wiring this week =( I'll try to get a video up this week.

I just checked, G27 costs 222 Euros (lowest price) in Europe and $244 on newegg and G27 is the cheapest to get after Driving Force. Fanatec is even more expensive.

Its a nice wheel, on GT5 tweak it down to 5 and dont slack off on holding it or you will lose control, for extra realism put on the "Simulator" Mode

@MrTpengineer I used the dfgt for GT5 and I couldnt even control my car while racing. The wheel kept spinning around left and right and was really hard to steer even after I adjusted the in-game force feedback and power steering settings.

@dudman89 Does the game have settings? I don't know how compatable it is with it anyway, check the compatability list on Logitech's website. Also something useful I found out is I can map it to keyboard and mouse keys in order to drive vehicles in games that don't support steering wheels like Halo, it's really stiff but works :)

I have a problem with my DFGT. I just got it today and have played it on GT5. However whenever I am racing, the wheel seems to turn and spin by itself (on straightways and turns). It also feels like I sometimes have to turn the wheel WAY too hard just to make turns. I have changed the settings in the options menu but it doesnt make a change. Does anyone know if theres a way to make the wheel handling feel smooth and realistic?

@dudman89 if you go in the main screen of gt5 then to settings you go down to the steering wheels and the steering wheel settings then you just adjust the force feedback

@kuikskebram already did that. i switched the settings from amateur to simulation and also adjusted the force feedback and power steering. nothing i do makes any difference in how it handles.

I never use the FF because of that.

Start the ps3 and the game with the power " on " on your DFGT.

When the game detected the wheel,just unplug it so it has no power anymore.

Your steer will work very smooth :)

You can copy over your FFB values in your GTL/GTR2/Race07 player.ini file into rfactor and the FFB in rF will be identical. They are all GMotor sims. Why didn't you guys tell us what buttons don't with with a PC???

i recently got the DFGT and was working great, but then after about a week i when i would play GT5 i would be in the middle of the race and all the sudden the wheel will change what all the buttons do and go all crazy and nothing would work until i unpluged it and pluged it back in. this works for a while but then it happens again, anyone having this problem? and know what to do? should i return it for the g27?

I had a G27 for a year,then my pedals stopped working correct.

New pedals for a G27 are more expensive then a new GT....with pedals.

Now i have a GT for a few weeks and im just as happy with it,as with my G27.

Got my GT for 99 euro,my G27 was 275 euro..

The G27 feels better is my personal opinion,but i dont use the FF.

I use the power when the game starts so he communicates with the wheel,then i unplug the power.

well, if your talking about the wheel itself,

in real cars, it very rare to see a "tuned" steel wheel,

but it is more common to see plastic/rubber wheels in stock cars...

so the DFGT is more realistic,

but if your comparing it for good car, like audi for example, none of these wheels represent "realistic" wheels, as most of the sport cars and expensive cars have leather wheels.

that's where the G27 kicks in, although it only represents the "sport-like" type of rubber wheels.
