This shows how the President of the United States is just the "loudspeaker" of his advisors. Politicians are idiots. We're not just electing them but we're also electing the people who have influence over them.
In this case, Kissinger decided not to nuke and or drown hundreds of thousands of people. You can't make this up.
I could have led to a nuclear confrontation with China or Russia as well. Vietnam was a pointless senseless war that did nothing for the United States.
Communism always fails - any centralized economic system does. Capitalism is what always endures either in the form of a black market (and we have plenty of those today in drugs) or legally.
@MopacMurtaza Nobody likes america due to envy of their power. Germany had the same criticism when they were up there, and the same went for Russia when they were on top. It's all about hating the strongest. Like how people will always hate the best singer, or strongest fighter.

In the 1950's the United States was an undisputed superpower, and the USSR had not yet attained that status. We were the most respected nation in the world, because we were the first super power that didn't use it's power to expand.
That didn't last long. In 1953, the US overthrew the Iranian democracy to steal oil in Operation Ajax, and we've been in decline ever since.
@xIegionx Respect and/or fear of that power stems from the willingness to exercise that military power. I find it interesting that you compare America to two (at the time) truly totalitarian states.

Wow it is really scary, that the president of the most powerful nation didn't seem to have any sympathy with the lives of 200.000 people.
Shit like this is why nobody likes America abroad! Claiming to be for peace officially, talking about bombing people behind closed doors.
