Not sure why they never made it on this side of the Atlantic. We needed another "Edgar" besides "Winter"! There wasn't much English-sounding about them at all. This is pure West Coast-influenced, Blue Cheer with Captain Beefheart on lead vocals!
Was regular at youth club when this was out. Not my record, some guy with short hair loved them.(& Zappa) Over a period of 18 months he brought in the first 3 albums, I enjoyed but never bought them. But I still love this stuff, plenty beneath the surface.
We had to put up with soul and skinhead type music, after our heavy intrusions.
I would so like to LIKE these guys but I can't get past Edgar's voice! I've definitely given these guys a chance though, listened to their first four albums in their entirety along with the "Live At Abbey Road" CD and musically they're awesome. It's the vocals and the lyrics that are just lacking IMO. But as for those Beat Club green screen effects....FAR OUT!
Well, the lyrics are plain weird, downright cryptic. As for Edgar's voice, I understand he was very smitten by Captain Beefheart's singing style(at least I read that somewhere) and maybe that wasn't the best influence. Anyway, there is a theatrical quality to Edgar's vocals, which can be sort of fun.
I had the GREAT pleasure to see EBB two nights ago in Aylesbury. WOW - just awesome. I probably saw them in 1969 through an, er, haze @ The Roundhouse, Camden but hadn't caught up since. 40 bloody wasted years !!! They played Love in the Rain this week and sound 10 times as good now as I remember back then. I won't be waiting another 40 years !
got this full length from the beat club show plus dropout boogie aswell i have beatclub shows 1-12 i think mainly krautbands cheers jarl ps love wasa wasa so many great lps from 69 as shown in the new" heavy rock "mag this month
The bass player reminds me of John Fruscante

LOVE IN THE RAIN!! Yeah, I remember they kicked in with this when they played Hyde park with Pink Floyd. Terrific gig. Perhaps their best-loved tune.
