These four videos has to be one of the best things made since strings in a stick! Educational, great music and well played. Imitate these songs, technique and characteristic isn't done by a day. Well done!
This is simply marvelous: a public service. Thank you for remembering who dug the well: Robert Johnson, Charlie Christian, Danny Cedrone. I wish you had Scotty Moore in there as well. The Sun Studio musicians - most importantly, Scotty and Bill Black - were seminal in creating the vocabulary of rock 'n' roll.
this is verrrry cool and educational, and you have a great concept of fidelty when playing these tunes and deciding what guitar/effects to use. oh yea.... F***ing awesome playing. I would love if you could check out some of my videos :)
How weird-How would he fit all those players into a , what 10 minute video? I would truly like to see your video on this. Great guitar player does a great job and you boo hoo it-spare me. I have been playing for 35 years-I can play big time-But I also appreciate other players-You sound very jealous to me.
@danfretland If you read the full video description you will see that's exactly what I've done.. I don't claim this to be the complete "Bible" of rock guitar or anything.. ;-)
@danfretland Yes, I know, but please watch my newer (R)evolution of Rock Guitar video series (in 4 parts), I've included a few of those you're mentioning there. And this is a presentation of Rock guitar, not Jazz guitar, so that automatically excludes the jazz guitarists you mention. And of course it's impossible to include all the history's many great guitarists in such a relatively short representation, I have to make a selection based on my preferences and opinions, like you say.
I Beg to differ on the whole distorted thing. Go look up 'Johnny Burnette Rock n Roll Trio'. It's widely held that 'honey hush' and train kept a rolling' used the first true distorted guitar, almost a decade prior to the stones. Not to mention that you completely left out LINK freakin Ray?
@w4wxp I know that Keith Richards wasn't the first guitarist to use distortion, but the Maestro Fuzz-tone was the first commercially available fuzz/distortion pedal, and Satisfaction was probably the first known recording using that unit, so therefore it's significant. And sorry I left out Link Wray (with a W..)
@rednebb Yeah, sorry about the type-o, lol. I just think that 'Rumble' really changed the landscape of music, with that ultra thick (for the time) power chord/Distortion combo. Hell, even compared to songs today it still is a super dark, 'in your face' sorta song.
Do you speak English Ketil? I would like to see a fyll song on your Eastwood Savannah-there is not much on that guitar online and i really like it what's you opinion
Thanks, I've just uploaded parts 3 and 4.. Sorry about the subtitles, I thought they were long enough.. But you could of course just pause the video during the subtitles so you get enough time to read them.
i hope you are having more fun than it seems you are .. maybe not when making the video ('cus i know it requires attention to numerous simultaneous details), then at leas when you are playing 'just for fun'
Thank you very much! Yes, I'm having great fun, but this is just the way I look when I play; very concentrated and maybe not very happy, sorry.. But I'm normally a very happy person ;-)
I have the same thing, i look cranky when i play ^^
But damn, cant wait for part 3, you really have some classics there, and its giving me ideas of what to learn! (Every guitrarist should know AT LEAST the intro to stairway, right? xD)
Absolutey amazing. Dead on tone, phrasing and note-for-note playing. For a guitarist's view one BEST videos ever posted on Youtube. Look foward to 2&3.
since i have seen your first videos, i follow your uploads. I'm always surprised by your playing, you can play a lot of style with your own feeling: it's called talent!

It's called G.A.S.
He, he, skjønner hva du mener.
