  • im getting surgery in 3 weeks to fix it

  • Surgery 3 weeks ago already went to 2 movies in the theatre<3

  • @mckennamillsap thats sooner than i felt like doing that! congrats on your surgery

  • So have you been able to go back to dancing?

  • @Emster007 I can dance now, but i have not taken any classes or been on any more teams or anything like that, though i think i could if i had the time. I do hip hop dance moves to work out and I don't notice a restrain unless I really arch my back, but it doesn't hurt.

  • I have a twin too!! =) I also had scoliosis. My curvature was 107 degrees, and after 2 surgeries, I became 35 degrees.

  • @SquigglyBuddies14 Hey.. wow two surgeries, you are very brave! I'm glad things turned out well! does your twin have any curvature?

  • @maubre1 No, she got checked last May and the dr. said she was fine.

  • did u ever get the feeling in ur fingers bacK?

  • @mckennamillsap haha yeah a few hours later. They were just completely numb because of the way I was laying for the 7 hr surgery. I was definitely freaking out for like an hour though! I thought it was permanent ha. i was very out of it.

  • @mckennamillsap o yes, about an hour or so later haha, i was very out of it and just freaked out for nothing. I was lying on my stomach with my hands out infront of my head for over 7 hrs, thus they became numb for a while.

  • I need help!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE JUST BEEN DIONOSED WITH A 53-57 DEGREE CURVE.

I am nervose because wont you knida be cripeled the rest of ur life because of the rods?

  • @socrazy4clay no i do not feel crippled at all. I felt deformed and crippled before having the surgery actually. II feel normal now. I only had my top curve fused though. Sometime people feel less flexible when they have their whole spine fused where their waist is

. let me know if you have more questions! =)

  • @maubre1 okay cool

  • hey its tiffany! from facebook, we talked a bit n i decided to make a video, check it out pplease(: its on my youtube homepage(:

  • Comment removed

  • @maubre1 Did you have a rib hump prior to surgery? And was it corrected after? Thank you

  • my brother died coz of this he was only new to me i loved him so much i cry every time i always whisper to his grave be there in a sec bro

  • I'm getting rods, i'm nervous,

  • @exmo7 I was nervous too!! very very very nervous!!!! its normal. stay positive!! =)

  • WOW. This is so amazing! I have a twin too, but I dont have scoliosis, but I'm happy to now know about it, this video is so amazing, your very couragous to go threw that surgery!

  • my daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was 7, she will be 12 next month, she has had surgery and had a growing rod in her back she had to have it lenghten every 6 months but next week she will have a spinal fusion which i am not too nervous of, but i am nervous abouther having a reactin because i have seen a few is where people got sick, her dr said they have to mae an incision on her chest also which another dr will perform so I am so nervous for my baby, loved ur vid, i will make

  • @yrkt27 Yes, you just need to make sure you are using the best surgeons. There is a risk for infection like all other surgeries but especially ones like spinal fusions. The best doctors will take the most precautions. I had some problems with my breathing and lungs after my surgery. Luckily it passed. I was very nervous and so was my mom. be strong!! best of luck to you both!!

  • Getting rods in December yikes!

  • @mckennamillsap Best of luck to you, hit me back wtih any questions u may have!!

  • omg my history is similar , i have a twin too and my scoliosis its worst than her and i get my surgery now and im very happy because i was like you and now i have a better body , but now it hurts me a lot .

    Love your video !!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry 4 my bad english :/

  • @javitops14 Thanks!! I"m sorry youre in pain. I hope you find a way to not hurt in the future!! Your english is greeat. Good luck!

  • Hi you're video was truly inspirational,

I just had this surgery done last Tuesday, July 12th,

I am now home but I find it uncomfortable for me to sleep, any suggestions? Also by the 2nd week after surgery were you able to go out and do things,

or were you still at home? Hope you can reply, thank you (:

    -Sydney

  • @sydneyjones22 Thanks chica!! Congrats on having your surgery, worst is over for sure! Ugh i know sleeping was dificult plus the pain meds keep you up. Get off of meds as soon as u feel u can. in the mean time, surround yourself with pillows. i slept on my side holding a pillow and one between my legs, under my head and next to my back. Stay away from caffiene and take tylenol PM if u need too. ALso take long walks during the day! I dint go out and do things for about 4/5 weeks :/....

  • @maubre1 thank you! I have been doing great. I even joined my schools cheer squad and I'm back in soccer. Everything is back to normal somewhat.(: haha.

  • Hi Marcela, Dr. O'brien is my doctor as well, and my curves are about the same as yours! I was presented with the option of surgery recently, and I'm really considering it. I have some severe pain every now and again in my back and legs, and like you, I hate the way I look with my curves. I'm heavily considering getting the surgery done next Summer. I'm very nervous, but I want to fix my back much more, lolz. Did you have an overall good experience? Are you limited significantly now? Thanks :)

  • @carriecox92 Heyl! Dr. Obrien is awesome! Your in good hands.I was presented the decision about surgery a couple yrs before actually doing it. I had to think about it and choose the best summer. If your curves are as severe as mine were, you're unhappy about your appearance and you suffer from pain daily then I say go for it! I had an overall great experience. Im happy now with no pain and pretty limitless, surgery is tough tho, worst pain ive ever felt, but i would do it again if i had to.

  • @maubre1 Thanks so much for your reply. :) How's your range of motion in your back now? Did you have your spine fused?

  • @maubre1 did you get a metal; rod in your back or is gthat optional?? plz answer cos i have to get surgery done on my back soon.. i have scoliosis its a 45 degree angle its littirally shaopes as a backwords s.;(

  • @pleasentjada70 I have two metal rods and some screws. They have to use rods to hold the spine in position until the fused spine heels i guess. ALl i know is that the rods aren't necessary after a year or so but who would want another spinal surgery to remove them. not me. Surgery is optional until it affects your breathing or the pain is too much to bare everyday . explore your options b4 choosing surgery

  • @maubre1 Oh Okay How Long Do You Have To Wear The Metal Rods Like Months? And Thank You For Telling Me my Mom Said That The Metal Rods Can Be Removed After The Spine Is Straightened

  • @pleasentjada70 well for atleast a yr . but they probably wont open you up again to take them out unless they are really bothering you, like if your really skinny and you can feel them. I don't feel mine at all. they arent heavy, i cn't tell they are there.

  • @carriecox92 If you get surgery do they put a medal rod in or is it optional? cos like im getting surgery done soon and i am scared ima have a metal rod. plz tell me its optional if you get a metal rod or not ;( and yes sadly i do have scoliosis and its a 45 degree angle so is it optional to get a metal; rod? i dont want a metal rod and my mom and my family doesnt want me getting a metal rod...i am turning 13 btw.

  • @pleasentjada70 Hey, sorry it took me a little while to reply! And no, you don't have to get a rod to my understanding. I don't even think they use rods anymore! You'll just get your spine fused, no rods involved :)

  • @carriecox92 oh no its okay and wow really? thats a good thisng for me

  • @pleasentjada70 I'm pretty sure. Not 100 percent, but I know I won't be getting them. I'm pretty sure that my doctor said they don't do the rods anymore... You'd have to ask him to know for sure though. :) Good luck!

  • Hey, i had surgery July 28th 2010 and im wondering how you're feeling now. Are you in any pain at all? What kind of sports/exercise can you do?

  • @xokatiemae no, i have no pain. i dance a lot so if i really over due it then i feel a little discomfort but not usually! i can do any excerise now! i try not to run tho i mostly do like walking at an incline or eliptical stair climber etc. But im great! how are you???

  • @maubre1 i'm so glad you can dance still! i'm really thin so the rods and everything irritate me a lot so i have to wear prescription pain patches. i couldn't run before i started wearing the patches. i can now i just get out of breath quickly because my body isn't use to it!

  • @xokatiemae ya girl dance is a big part of my life.wow im sorry you are irritated by the rods. can you feel them ? that was a concern of mine. luckily im not that skinny haha but thats interesting

  • @maubre1 yeah i can feel pretty much everything!

  • what is your flexibility like? did you loose alot?

  • @JoeeMcCoy ive been dancing all my life so its hard to tell what my flexibility is like. I am less flexible but only because I haven't been dancing recently. i used to have all my splits, bend over really far all that.. I can still do a lot and I think if I stretched I could do everything besides some of the back arches I used to be able to do

  • im incredibly scared for my surgery tomorrow!? my angel is also at a little more than 50 degrees. :( and ive gotten like 20 freakin MRIs

    ps. MRI's suck!

  • @fruitstripe100 I know how you feel! It is a scary thing, its ok to freak out, i know I did but try your best to stay calm and think of the positive outcomes! my angles were in the 60s so they have less to fix for you. I had a lot of tests too. the more tests the better so the doctors really can prepare for you and know whats going on and make sure you ok for surgery. i know they suck !! ha but worth it. GOOD LUCK and take pics!

  • im incredibly scared for my surgery tomorrow!? my angel is also at a little more than 50 degrees. :(

  • Thank you for this video are there any long term post op effects one year later after your successful surgery?

  • @nancydrew5 welcome! Well I have my one year check up next week but I feel great and I have no pain so I dont think so!

  • wheen u waakeup does your back hurt ?????

cause ii gotta get the surgeery sooon and im reallly scared

  • @MelaAndValShow Nope, when I wake up, I feel great! It used to hurt before surgery and I"d have trouble sleeping and have to pop my back numerous time. I never feel like that anymore! I was so scared before my surgery, really really scared!!!! Good luck with your surgery and let me know if you have more questions

  • wheen u waakeup does your back hurt ?????

    cause

  • thanks for making this video. i just learned today at my doc. appt. about 2 hours ago that i have 2 months to either get my curve back in shape with my mericle brace or surgery in july.... thanks for this... just gotta keep watching them until i feel better about it! =/

  • @peachesphipps1 ooo dang well keep yuor head up. all these obstacles make you stronger and really there way worse things that you could have! if you have any questions about bracing or surgery ask away!

  • man i have been waiting for this surgery for all my 4 years i have gone through 5 MRI, 3 Cat scan, and 8 x-ray even from asia i got a MRI and CAT scan. im not scared cause I know i can make it through this cause i was prepare for this I ALWAYS BELIEVED IN MYSELF :D so i hope everyone believes in themself too

  • haha ok. ill try not to worry as much. thank you soo much!(: il probably be msging you haha. and ill let you know how my surgery is(: ill try to make a video

  • @tiffizbliss no prob! def make a video. u prob wont feel like posing for a camera but jsut have your mom bring one and remind her your gonna want these later!! specially when you walk and get to leave! if you want, you can add me on FB, my name is marcela aubrey. u can message me as many question as you can think of, even the embarrassing ones!!

    .

  • @happyperson541 aww i bet she was freaking out like mine was! congrats on getting thru your surgery!!

  • hi, i also have an s curve :/ and the top curve is 60, the bottom is 40. my ribs stick out a lot, and i always feel fat compared to the other girls with longer stomachs. the doctor said ill grow 2 or 3 inches in my torso area, n i just really wanted to know if you saw a difference in your front side after a month after surgery. it gives me hope that i will be fine after surgery, i just get kinda worried thinkin that my stomach will look werid cuz of my ribs forever.

  • oh, and thank youu so much for this video!(:

  • @tiffizbliss my ribs are pretty mcuh awesome! don't feel fat! but the good news is your torso will lengthen whihc will cause you to appear thinner, which is what your body would have been like wihtout scoliosis. My stomach is symmetrical and what a difference! My left rib cage was huge. I tihnk you will have similar results and really love your new appearance

  • @maubre1 my hump is on my right side, and i hate looking at pictures of me where on one side it looks good but my other side it sticking out haha. i turn to the side also. and ive never been comfortable wearing a swim suit bcuz of my ribs. i hope everything works out for me. ims oo scared. but i was also wondering if your ribs b4 surgery, like when im relaxing i see that in the front my left rib sticks out more than the right. did that fix after surgery?

  • @tiffizbliss My curves were about the same but I kind of tried to ignore them. I tried to jsut wear what I want I mean there are worse things! way worse things! My left boob was bigger haha and my left rib. Like, when I laid down, my left stuck out farther than the other. Mine are jsut bout even now, not perfect but greatly improved and i can't really notice and difference

  • Heey! I just got a second opinion for my idiopathic scoliosis, and my surgery is scheduled for July 27! but yeah i am really scared!]= do you feel the metal rods in you?

  • @kaaylaaanii congrats on your surgery date! i had mine on the 27th too,of May tho last year! I don't feel the rods at all. You have to be extremely skinny to feel anything out of the ordinary when you touch your back. But i don't feel anything ever like nothing is there.

  • God I' mso scared... I have a double curve... 48 and 45 and I have an appointment on may 11th to confirm if I need one or not... I'm 25 and scared like a 5 year old.. Mine is from bottom to top.. so my scar is gonna be huge but I really donT' mind.. it's the effects after tho... damn I'm so scared...

  • @zecath i was SO scared, crying and shaking all the time. I jsut kept thinking im gonna go paralyzed or die or lose too much blood, all teh worst scenarios. its very normal. There are great risks wtih spine surgery but the younger, healthier, and more flexible of a curve you have, the better! and make sure you doctor is a good one. some people fly out to otehr places for the best doctors. this surgery made me stronger, look better and feel great! good luck!!

  • @maubre1 thank so much for the support ;)

  • Hi I'm 14 and was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 7 or 8. I need surgery very soon.. I'm really scared. Btw my curve is 55 degrees and I've had the province brace for two years. U heeled very fast and I jw if the scar ever goes away??

  • @megzie1227 Hey girl, I was scared too, its normal! I freaked out haha. It looks fast on the video .It felt slow going through it. Now it feels like it went by in mintues. My scar is visible. it doesn't both me though. Its just a straight pinkish scar going down half my spine. I actualy like it sometimes because it reminds me what I strong person i am having gone through this. Its kind of an ice breaker too! It has been less visible than previous months tho. It was more purple months ago.

  • @maubre1 Thx for the advice sometimes I wonder why this happens to so many people and then have to go through this pain and suffering. I realized that it just makes us stronger. Im going to high school in the fall and I play soccer and now I probably can't until sophomore year:( btw how much pain were u in for the first 3 months?

  • The thing i like about your video, is it makes the time look as though it flys by after the op. I go in for this surgery soon and i dread waking up every day to find the date in an envolope. Your video is very inspiring as you went in with a positive attitude :) My curve is 102 degrees and my rib hump is alot bigger but i am looking forward to the outcome. Thanks for the video :)

  • @blocki666 Your Welcome, thank you for your comment. IT kinda does seems like it flew by now. ITs a very strengthening experience. i wish you the best and urge you to take photos to remember the surgery as well. best of luck! stay strong!

  • Comment removed

  • Hi i just went through scoliosis surgery 3 weeks ago my story is similar to your i had to wear a brace for 3 years since i was 10 me and my family knew that i had scoliosis and the brace did not help at all my curve went from 15 and 20 to 56 to 67 in 4 years so at 14 which i am now i had surgery and it went succesful it was pretty funny when i woke up though i didnt no that they took a rib out of me and put it n my lower spine including the rods but even though that happened it was worth it lol

  • @tomcat1878 haha yeah! it was worth it. im glad things went well! doesn't it kinda suck we had to go through the bracing for nothing haha. yuh!! but o welll it made us stronger! thanks for watchin =)

  • I have to get surgery on June 22. I'm so scared :( but watching this video is really helping me feel better about it thank you

  • @guitarbabe161 Aw your welcome. I was SOOO scared too. going through this will make SO STRONG and youll look and feel amazing. good luck!!! =)

  • P.S I've watched your video so many times now!! It really helped me in the lead-up to surgery and I thank you for taking the time to create this for others to benefit from XX hope you are doing amazingly well now :)

  • @zendabendable im so glad this helped! i advise you to make your own if you took pictures. or keep a journal of your recovery thoughts. you can look back on it whenever you face another challege in life and it will seem like a peice of cake!! i am doing great thank, good luck with everything, and let me know if you have any questions!

  • Hey Marcela! I had my surgery just over a week ago now and wanted to know how long it took for all your swelling to go down completely and how much taller you were after your op? I can't pull my shoulders back and stand straight at the moment as my rods went up quite high so I wondered if you were actually a little taller a few weeks after when all the swelling has gone? Cheers! Ali:)

  • @zendabendable CONGRATS! it took around a month for it go down and i could actually see what my stomach and back looked like. RIght after the sugery I was 2.5 inches taller but i was stiff and my back hadn't settled. i looked very flat from the side. once my back settles and my tush stuck out again, hehe, i was only like 1/ 1.5 inches taller but taller none the less!, usually patients shrink during the unswellig process , but my rods don't go up as high as yours, so your case may be different

  • Hi=]

on the firt days o the recovering, did you need hlp for doing ordiary stuff like dressing up, get into bed or take a shower?

does the cut hurt muchs on the first days? how many months does it take until you go back to school?

  • @yakumofuji2 hey!! yes the first 2 weeks or so my mother was by my side. she even slept in the same bed as me for a few days after coming back from hospital to be there for me when i woke up randomly in the night to take meds and adjust my pillows. she helped me dress and take shower too. it took 2/3 weeks to really do everything on my own. the cut ittself doesn't realy hurt, you lose feeling in your back actually. I went to school 2.5 months after surgery no problem.

  • where did you have your surgery done? i got just about the same thing you got i have a 50 degree curve in my lower back and i cant twist left and my lower rips sit lower then the tops of my hips. let me know

  • @loggsX4 baylor scoliosis center in dallas. dr obrien. he is awesome!

  • @maubre1 thank you,

  • Hey i have scoliosis and i was wondering if you could give me a little bit of insight. Im worried about the long term effects of the surgery. From doing a little research some people who had their surgery said that they started feeling pain after a few years? and that their rods broke? im really worried about these after effects.

  • @afrodude2001 yes, this was and is a concern of mine. After surgery you have to be careful. Take the full time to recover so your bones heal. No one knows what will happen in the future. there is a chance I will need another surgery in the future. all i know is im happy with my back right now and im glad i did it.taking good care of yourself will eliminate some of this risk for an addition surgery

  • @maubre1 oh ok cause someone told me that its where they like put cement on your spine! Lol

  • So i have another question about surgery. I am trying to decide when to have it done because i wasnt to be on the colorguard in band. I know you're a dancer so how long did it take you before you were able to dance again or move like normal??

  • @SheenaHumble It took me probably 5-6 months to really feel normal again. After 3 months I felt pretty good. YOur doctor will tell you if you are ready to do colorguard. I was in colorguard in highschool. I think by like 3-4 months youll be able to practice

  • Marcela, i watched your video and I am hoping you can help ease my 19 year old daughter about having surgery. Her thorasic curve is 45 and lower lumbar 39. She is going tomorrow Feb 23 2010 to see her spine specialist. We are going to go ahead with the surgery. Would you be kind enough to talk with my daughter about how it was and how it is now? We live in Indiana, we are a military family. If you could, send me a message and I will give you our number. Thanks, teresas4iu@yahoo.com

  • @teresas4iu hi, im sorry i didn't see this comment earlier, i will email her now!

  • @maubre1 idk what having your spine fused even is

  • @octoberbabytumbler spinal fusion is where they take rods and screws to straighten your spine and hold it in place. Scoliosis surgery is a spinal fusion.

  • @maubre1 one more thing.. Did the surgery hurt? Like when you where asleep could you feel them doing stuff to you? And after the surgery could you still tumble??

  • @octoberbabytumbler no, i remember being wheeled into operating room, nurses talking to me, and then i was in ICU. No pain during surgery . When I first woke up, my face was incredibly itchy and i couldn't move my right hand but no pain. pain set in a few hrs later &the 1st 3 days were ROUGH. I dont think i was aggressive enough about recieiving meds tho. U have to speak up! i was never able to tumble lol so i don't know. it probably depends on how much spine you fuse,i fused the top curve only

  • @maubre1 thanks for the advice!

  • I may be having rods put in my back soon and im terrified! I have a 45 and 37 degree curve, which means i have a " S" shaped spine. Im a cheerleader and tumbler and im not ready to give that up yet! Im only 12 and dont want to have to give up my life because of surgery. I have always hated surgery and since this is a major surgury it freaks me out more then anything! Any advice or anything that could maybe help me be less scared?

  • @octoberbabytumbler , don't be scared! I was a varsity cheerleader and dancer in highschool with those degrees.I was also on the dance team in college yr. I didn't have surgery until 2 yrs into college. I was scared too though when i found out about surgery. the unknown is scary. But for me, surgery changed my life. im so much more confident. i can stil dance. I know some girls still able to tumble. If your back doesn't give you pain or the look doesn't bother you, aviod surgery for now

  • That's good! I still have to get my bending films done to see how far they have to go down but thank you for sharing and for being truthful and saying it hurt! (:

  • I am actually being signed up to have surgery very soon. My curve is at 42 and 49 and I chose to get surgery because I didn't want to take the risk. I was wondering about being able to bend your back and other things. Like how different does it feel??

  • @SheenaHumble congrats. It depends on how much spine you fuse. I had my upper curve fused so my mobility in my waist didn't change. I don't notice any difference on a daily basis. SOmeitme when i practice a hip hop routine and really go all out I notice a little restraint but nothing major. I feel awesome!

  • Thank you so much for this video. I want this op so much. I have a mri in April they will know if i can get it then.

  • @clubshaz aww your welcome. Ya, Its a life changer! Good Luck!

  • I also have scoliosis & have a twin who I am shorter then too :P lol. I have not had the surgery yet because my doctor said its not severe enough.Well that was like 2 years ago. I think it has gotten worse but my mom thinks otherwise. when i go for my physical in march i'm going to be sure to mention that my back has been hurting a lot. your video is soo inspirational to me! and i hope everything is still going well for you!! =)Erika(=

  • @sunrising76 Wow, same story as me. My mom did't want me to have the surgery either. She felt it wasn't severe enough. The day of surgery she had to help me put on my gown and rub this cream all over my back. Itw was at that moment she realized how deformed my back was and finally accepted the surgery for me! Only you can understand the pain and every day battle you are going through. It hard for others to imagine, even your parents. everything is great now! good luck to you girl!!

  • My Best Friend is going in for scoliosis surgery in the summer and I'm so worried for her! She doesn't like to say it when she's scared but I know she is. I'm going to keep her company in the weeks she'll be recovering but I'm still really nervous for her. This video has really helped me so thank you so much for easing my concern!

  • @lillk001 Its okay to be nervous! Its a big deal! its good that you understand that! Shes going to be very out of it and weak the first few days so if you feel unappreciated dont! she just cant express it during that first week. i had visitors and i couldn't even bear to say hi without feeling pain or discomfort! what a great friend you are though!! shes gonna look and feel great!!!!. good luck to yall!!! =)

  • Thank you. I have really been considering it. I dont think my parents want that for me. When i think about i wonder if it would be worth the pain & recovory time. I am probolly going to wait until later on in my life when i stop growing to get it done. But thanks again. :)

  • The last time i had my spine checked the curve was about 20-25 degrees. I think its been a little over a year since then and it seems to have gotten worse. My curve now is proboly about 45-50 degrees. I experience alot of pain when i sit still or are active for long periods of time. Do you think the surgery would be worth it for me?

  • @genaandmegshow well first go take an xray to see how much worse it has gotten. Before surgery you need to try other alternatives like medication and physical therapy. surgery is very dangerous. But for me it was very worth it! I rememebr at the time laying i the hospital bed a day or two after the operation, i though "im never doing this ever again!!! ever!! i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy!!" but now after 7 months, i think i would do it again.

  • I play piano alot and between my spine and ribs really hurts when i play until i can't play anymore, i'm considering surgery should i see an orthapedic doctor? Please help!!!

  • @qwertyasdyaln Yes, definitely see a doctor, get x-rayed to see what is going on. You may be feeling pain because of a condition like mine or it could be another rib/disc problem. If nothing else, he can give you some good pain meds! hang in there

  • @maubre1 . Thanks for that I think I should tryh some Medication for the time being, but then try and get some sort of surgery or brace. Do you feel completely better now after the surgery?

  • @qwertyasdyaln yes its been around 7.5 months and i feel awesome, no pain ever!

  • @maubre1 Hey how much did it cost?

  • @qwertyasdyaln the surgery costs around 100 thousand. im a full time student so I'm under my fathers medical insurance so i paid a percentage of that.

  • @maubre1 OMG I don't think i'll be getting that all too soon i'll just deal with the pain. :( Ohwell. Thanks for the advice anyway.

  • I am having this surgery in one week adn I am very scared. .. how painful was it?

  • @DisneyLover831 honestly, it is very painful but it is different for everyone. For me they had to move my ribs a lot so when it was over, my chest and ribs hurt very bad. If your pain is bad they will you give you plenty of meds! If you are hurting, say so! After the third day , for me atleast, the pain became less and less. Just get past that hump and you'l be fine. It ws very worth the pain!

  • Great video!! I had the surgery about 3 weeks ago. I hated it but it's better I hope you get better and your back looks great! :)

  • @LaurynMorales Thank you Lauryn, Yeah it sucks huh lol but it def gets better! Take it easy and best of luck to you!

  • i hate being swollen after surgery :/ hope all is well now :)

  • @lollipopleahh123 yeah its quite uncomfortable! i just wanted to know what my body loooked like! But after a month i was normal and very happy =)

  • @maubre1 yeah watch my videos in some of the pics you can see how swollen my stomach is. (ill have more pics up of everything soon) im glad everything worked out for you though :)

  • Very nice of you to share your story of going through scoliosis. I must ask, when you lean over does the shape of your back still looks as it did before or is it now straight?

  • @casapapa2 ITs not perfect when I lean over but a HUGE Improvement. I am so happy. I didn't take a picture of my bending over when I made this video because I still was unable to bend over like that. But yes, not perfect probably since I only had my top curve fused but not very noticable anymore =)

  • I'm contemplating surgery for next year, my scoliosis is an 'S' curvature with a 62degree (top) on a 58 degree (lumbar) and a 27 in my neck. I'm very apprehensive about the fact that I will lose flexibility and movement in my body and worry about the pain actually getting worse after surgery...I have so much pain now that I'm hoping surgery will alleviate it. How is your pain factor now and how much is your movement affected by the rods? Thanks :) Ali

  • @zendabendable I feeel no pain at all now and its been almost 6 months. My curvature was about what yours was. I only fused my top curve. If you fuse the whole spin your flexibility is decreased lot more because there is much flexibility in the waist. I don't notice a decrease in movement. good lucK!

  • @maubre1 Thanks for the quick response! I get a lot of massage and my therapist is worried about how he will be able to work on me once I have the rods in and when all the muscles have been cut into...do you have any treatment like massage or physio or chiro?

  • @zendabendable nope, i wish i had a massage every now and then. But maybe you could look into switching therapists. There are massage therapists out there that treat ppl after scoliosis or are very familiar with it. After a few months it is safe to get massages and you could probably get them done like normal. You can't feel the rods through your back unless your extremely extremely skjnnnyyy!

  • im getting my surgery soon acctually ... on nov 23th.. im just wonderring if u were in school or if u know how much time ur going to miss .. cause i just really dont wanna miss that much time :( !

  • @reannaa1996 I had surgery the summer before my junior year in college. I'd say you need atleast 5 weeks out of school to be comfortable. Three weeks you start to feel alot less pain but I don't think I could have done school that soon. I luckily had over two months to recover before school!

  • @maubre1 I love your video, I'm going to see if my daughter will make one. She is 14 and 3 weeks post op, still in pain but not constantly. Her curves were 66/64 , now a 10! It's a hard thing to go through, but the end result is so worth it. I may make my own video for Moms, I'm sure your Mom has quite a story to tell. I'd suggest anyone watching your video, look for others like it. Avoid ones that may scare you. The unknown is scary so keep the faith, have a good attitude, be positive!

  • @coop5962 That is wonderful!! She should definitely make one. I made one about a month after when there was still a lot of down time seeing as I couldn't do a lot of activity still! It was fun to make. I wish I had my surgery when I was 14! I am so happy for her and glad you enjoyed it! Scoliosis is definitely a long journey for both its victims and their parents. Thanks again, god bless! =)

  • wow! it looks great!

I HAD MY SURGERY A WEEK AGO! all is great! the pain is in the first few days and then each day is much better!!!!!! ::)

  • @1703lily YAY, I'm so happy for you. make a video when you are more recovered and post it so I can see! I wish you the best. Recovery is a long journey but it was very worth it and amazing how much better you feel. There were minor bumps along the road, if you have any question about anything pelase ask =) congrats!

  • @maubre1 thank u for ur reply! just wanted to know if in the first few weeks when u breathed in u had sharp pains in ur ribs? ive spoken to some people they said they had it just wanted to know if u had it too? thx

  • @1703lily Actually when I was in teh hospital I had severe pain in my ribs and heart area. Everything is rearranged when you have surgery and the pain you feel is all the pressure it takes to move your ribs and muscels around. It will go away! I stopped feeling pain in my ribs a few weeks after surgery, just keep those pain meds handy!

  • @maubre1 yes , thats the pain i had! thank u so much for keeping in touch ! :)

  • your back were so wierd, ever more wierd than mine...i'm glad that you recovered very well, i'm happy for you, and i know that is a BIG step in someone's life...

i'm 14 and i'm going have surgery, for one side i'm hapy i'm having this surgery, but sometimes i wonder its risks....

my parent are very woried about it, if you don't mind, i would like to know how it was, because my surgery is on the 20th october

    plz answer...

    a big kiss...

    Nicole

  • @Niikziitah197 haha yes my back was very odd looking but surprisingly easy to disguise. I had the same nerves about the risks. I do not regret having the operation. Im so pleased with the appearance and I no longer have pain! It was very worth it to me. Be sure to find a great doctor and I'm sure you will be fine! The first week was aweful for me but after that you start feeling better and better with each week and then a few months after your suddenty SO HAPPY! any other questions, please ask

  • @maubre1 just one little question: did your belly got bigger after the surgery?

i have seen a lot of videos about girls and boys who had also scoliosis and some of them say the same as you... that they were pregnant...=D

  • @Niikziitah197 haha yes, they give you a lot of fluids during your hospital stay, and your organs are backed up so you feel very bloated. My stomach was hard and stuck out for a bout two - three weeks. Then it goes back to normal, my stomach is 100% normal now! Actually when the bloating goes away my stomach looked better because it was symettrical and longer from my back having been straightened

  • haha yeah, ill be careful and hopefully I won't hit anyone with my flagpole. lol!!! :D It's been really fun so far and I can't wait to perform at my first ever Pep Rally on Friday! and, I have my first home football game where I'm performing next Saturday! I thought I would get back pain, but I didn't so that's good!

  • Hey. Im so happy for you. I have a 30 degree curve on bottom and a 20 degree curve on top and when my mom recently looked at my back she thought it looked worse. Im done growing so i was wondering if it gets a little worse will they do surgery? I hate the appearance of my back,

  • @17Againlover4ever I think when i was diagnosed with scoliosis , my degrees were about what yours are. They say if your degrees are less than 40 and you are done growing, it get worse! Mine were around 50 when I was 18 so mine got worse. They won't operate on you if your back stays this amount of curvature. The risks of surgery are not worth fixing only cosmetic issues. Im sure my back looked a lot worse than yours.I learned to love other assets I had. It could be a lot worse, trust me!

  • Hi, Im from Portugal, and my scoliosis surgery will be on next Monday... Today is Thursday. OH MY GOD!!

Im a 21 years old guy, and my scoliosis appeared when i was 8. I know how do you feel, and Linda's video give me forces to my surgery... My scoliosis have 35degrees.

Before surgery, how much degrees had your scoliosis? And after surgery?

What sports/phisical exercice can you do know?

    I'm scared...

  • @mitsaicreative Before surgery my top curve was around 60 degrees and my bottom curve was around 50. After, I'm not too sure, pretty much perfect, maybe 10-15 degrees I haven't seen the x ray yet but the doctor said it was symmetrical. Its been about 6 weeks and Right now I'm doing most things and going on long walks for exercise. In a few months ill be back to normal but i feel really good most days anyways. I was very scared too! Its normal, but youre gonna be so happy once its over!

  • I have scoliosis too. I have a S curve (like you!!) and my curves are 40 degrees and 28 degrees. I'm going to be on my high school's color guard team next year, and I'm very excited! I'm going to be a freshman in HS next year :) I am very scared that I will need surgery and I've been watching these videos a lot. So thank you! lol. Oh, and I love the song u picked; Adam Lambert rocks!

  • @w00tuser101 Awesome, i was on colorguard as a freshman in HS too! Then i did cheerleading. I was very scared too, I did not want the surgery at all! But as things progressed it was a decision i had to make. I am very glad I had the surgery. Don't be scared!! And dont let the scoliosis bring u down, i was on dance team, colorguard, cheerleading, went to all the dances, friends, boyfriends , everything and my degrees were way more than u! =)

  • @maubre1 hi!!! omg, im soo excited. colorguard is about to start! :D lol. oh, I recently went to the scoliosis doctor and my curve didn't change!!! so I'm very happy. haha. But, I still have to go back in Feburary (6 months) just to keep on eye on it :DD

  • @w00tuser101 haha sweet. Colorguard is a great experience. I'm glad your curve did not change! Stay active and take good care of yourself, be careful with them 6 foot flagpoles!

  • you look so good! congrats :)

  • @lizaisamonkee ah thank you!

  • Hi Marcela!!

I run the scoliosis awareness page on facebook that you posted your video on, and I just want to let you know that this is a very inspiring and moving video... You did a great job!!

I'll pray that you keep recovering well!!

  • @emeraldsunshine1995 ahh thank u, u look fantastic btw!

  • @maubre1 Thank you!
