Well Ovett did take Coe's Mile World Record with 3 minutes 48.8 seconds!!! Sublime

Coe wasn't fully recovered from a chest infection when he ran this, and was still on antibiotics. It didn't help that the first 400m was far too quick and he received little help from drafting. You can see he was anxious when he kept looking over his shoulder from about 500m out. After this race he held the 800m, 1000m 1500m and 1 Mile WR's. The only man before or since to ever achieve this. Then, an hour later, Ovett took the Mile WR! Great days for British athletics.
