it's from the book, The Dream of the Red Mansion. You have to read it to understand why they are burring flowers.

Burying petals is actually the most beautiful scene in the novel. According to Lin Dai-yu, the female protagonist of the novel, she buries petals so that the petals down fall down into the river and flow out of the garden because outside of the garden, it is not clean.  Lin Dai-yu is very obsessed with cleanliness.
