  • @instone09:

Actually, I did not attack your video - I simply left a constructive comment, and instead of learning from it, you decided to alienate me (and possible others) from bothering with your execrable little offerings ever again.

Your comments are beginning to sound like a dripping tap.

    Fix it.

  • What is the maximum payload these kites can withstand?

  • This one about 150kg.

  • @pauluzzz1986 That's impressive. Cool stuff.

  • @pauluzzz1986 A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!!!

  • Didn't you get any problems with planes? ;)))) nice Shots!!

  • I flew in the evening to make sure there were not many planes.

But I was on the lookout for little Cessna like airplanes all the the time ;)

And the kite maintained its maximum altitude for just under 10 minutes.

  • té vette fotos! laat toch weer zien hoe groen Kattenbroek nou eigenlijk is in zn geheel.

  • Excellent! Great job!

  • I really like your setup. Great pictures. But what is the GPS used for in your setup?

btw, netherlands are great, especially because marijuana is legal there :)

  • Thanks alot!

I used the GPS to track the altitude and the flightpath of the rig.

When the rig was at 400 meters of altitude it was almost 700 meters away from where I was standing.

  • Great shots. Where is it?

  • This is in Amersfoort (The Netherlands)

  • Why have the camera pointing towards the string, it then cuts the photo in half?

  • If you look at the photos on my website (h t t p : / / k a p . w i d e y e . n l / # 0 . 0) you can see the string go all the way down to the ground, so thats pretty cool.

But if you click "Home" you will find a folder with photos I made a month ago of people who were iceskating.

On those photos you can see I turned the camera around indeed.

  • can you show me how your KAP rig is set up. Im tring to do some KAP but do not have a clue on where to start. also thinking of buying the same camera u have, I wonder if it would fly with a "home made kite though?.....

  • I think it will work with a homemade kite.

Long as it has enough listing power and stability in the air.

I used the Power Sled 24 because it not so powerful that it will drag me along yet it is powerful enough to lift the KAP rig even with low windspeed.

  • how is the camera taking the pictures automatically when you dont have a radio control?

  • You can set the camera to take a picture every 5 seconds.

The new version of this camera can even take a picture every 2 seconds :)

  • what city/town is that? looks neat

  • This is the north side of Amersfoort which is in the middle of the Netherlands.

  • How much in total did this all cost?

  • You don't need a gps device but if you like to know the altitude and its flightpath it costs about €120,-

The kite camera costs about €200,-

The kite itself (wingspan 242cm, length 113cm) costs €60,-

The Dacron line (150KG breaking strength) costs €60,- for 1000 meters.

And the "picavet suspension rig" is easy to build.

The size of the kite is impotant, if you take a kite any smaller it will be very difficult to lift up the rig.

    So all together some €450,-

  • Thanks, I better start saving

  • geweldig:D in ons amersfoort!

gigantisch mooi.. je ziet echt alles.. de ring ook enzo! ik kom er ook wellis vliegeren.

  • Nice, Do you have a higher resolution camera yet?

  • The camera I'm using right now (GoPro Digital Hero 3) takes a 3 megapixel image every 5 seconds.

Even if you zoom in a lot it still looks sharp enough te me.

Here are the actual photos from the camera (a little compressed from 2048x1536 to 1280x960).

  • After I watched this great video (Weekend Projects: Make A KAP Rig) I decided to build one myself.

After some research on internet I found out that this "Power Sled 24" would be the perfect kite for the lift and that a "GoPro Digital Hero 3" camera takes one photo every 5 seconds automatically, so now I don't need a fancy radio controlled rig but just an ordinary one which was easy to build.

And for the finishing touch I added a GPS device to track its altitude.

Feel free to leave a message!
