well i ve seen both departed & infernal affairs - both r grt movies in their own respect - infernal affairs is slow but intense ; departed is much more fast paced but yet smooth. i beilieve scrocesse has done a fairly decent job of adapting the story to irish mob backdrop - well detailed , but yes coming frm scorcesse - it was a bit let dn .

Scorseses next movie is all about spirituality: it-s a movie made after a japanese catholic novel called 'The Silence' by Shusaku(?) Endo. I read it 20 years ago.

As for the Departed you both are wrong. Scorcese is a great film-maker. The way he directs the actors/camera/editing is enjoyable. Even in this little clip you can see how skillful he is.
