You know mrm64's comment made me remember something, even though Mario's main ability is to jump, It always made more sense to me that Sonic would thwarp him at it, mainly becuase of the downforce (strength) Sonic must have in his legs must be like... tonnes apon tonnes, but also becuase Sonic already has jumped farther than Mario.
