  • Wow i just love this song

  • COAST2COAST AM W/ ART BELL...!!!

  • This what I used to do: about 1 to 1and a half hits of Brotherhood of eternal love orange sunshine out of La., first Pink Floyd Astronomy Domine, then Narrow way, now a little bhastrika pranayama or nadi shodhan, hang on tight to whatever I was sitting on, then ride my see saw, legend of a mind, finish with "Om". 30 years later, I'm a Kundalini Yogin, any connection you think?

  • why do people always compare one genre of music to another, one has to be better one has to fail do you really have to put something down just to say you like something else? we tripped our faces off as young teens listening to the moody blues, that will never happen ever again, but it did! it's like NLP! just listening to music can take you back there emotionally.

  • Great tune's, in the winter, the summer, or when ever.

  • Be it sight, sound, the smell, the touch... There's something inside that we need so much. The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound, Or the strength of an oak with roots deep in the ground, The wonder of flowers to be covered And then to burst up through tarmac to the sun again, Or to fly to the sun without burning a wing, To lie in the meadow and hear the grass sing, To have all these things in our memory's hoard And to use them, To help us, To find......
  • I'm 55 years old, & a competent guitarist, & while not a huge Moodies fan, that never stopped me from admiring the professionalism, musicianship, & craftsmanship of their recordings; most of which I own. Also, Justin Heyward, while not a virtuoso (an overused term, but whatever) like a Clapton, is VERY underrated by those who aren't fans of Progressive Rock. Mostly though, I'm just pissed off because after 43 years, I still haven't figured out how to get that sound on this solo! LOL!

  • Now that's a classic intro., song, album cover. The Moody Blues remind me a bit of Pink Floyd in their reflections on humanity and the frail, fault-ridden realities of it.

  • @probrojeffro You know what Ozzie Osbourne said about the beatles? They were the only band to go from being new kids on the block to Pink Floyd!

  • @elvispresley718

And Ozzie is a person of infinite wisdom - NOT.

  • wanna take a ride...??? wellll call Art Bell...east of the rockies (so on and so forth)

  • The Moodys were one of the very few bands whose music could become transcendental. They literally could lift you up off of the ground and transport you to another time and place.

  • @mrsolofeo The weed didn't hurt either.

  • @davidls11 Good point.

  • growing up when this album came out ,their sound was out there, totally different and real cool. 35yrs later it still blows me away. What great memories!

  • Show me any band now that can even come close to cranking out this kind of vocal harmony. Music is crap now. This song will be remember long after everyone has forgotten anything by Bieber or GaGa .... and I am quite thankful for it.

  • @theendlessenigma Fleet Foxes. There's still great music being made out there, it just isn't mainstream. watch?v=DrQRS40OKNE&ob=av2e

  • @cbennz514 hahahahaha hipsterfag

  • @zacksdaboomking Because I listen to Fleetfoxes? I'm cool with that then. And I believe it is Bret who is da boom king, not you good sir.

  • @cbennz514 i bet you listened to flight of the conchords... before they were popular. damn the mainstream!!!!!

  • @zacksdaboomking Nope, got into them when they were on TV. I'm confused why this upsets you so much. I never said the top 40 is horrible (you seem animate about defending it which is fine, it's personal opinion) or insulted you in anyway. Why be an ass?

  • greatest band ever!!!!

  • this song is trippy as fuck.

  • The memories of us all Very special indeed.

  • I had a house fire in '72, and my buddy's borrowed In Search Of The Lost Chord album was melted onto my stereo turntable. I felt bad about it (not about the fact that our house burned) so I bought him a new one, even though I was now homeless. I love this album!

  • The whole album sounds as if they're searching for something...

  • This song reminds me of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd. The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd were very similar. I remember Roger Waters said in an interview that the Moody Blues were a huge influence for the band in their early days of Pink Floyd.

  • moody blues = most amazing band. EVER !!!

  • Nice job Fizzy I think I'll have a drink..again nice job THANKS

  • oh no! you had to say that!

    oh well, the next generation!!

    something lovely too ha hahaha!!! ; }

  • I'd pay a million dollars to see Justin Beiber Sing This! XD

  • @BetaLink64 I'd pay a million dollars to see him get his head rammed up a gorillas ass.

  • @BetaLink64 i'd pay a million dollars to have you dumbass kids shut the fuck up about him and stop spreading his name everywhere you go.

  • Grew up in a harsh family environment(lot's of drugs etc.) but at age 50,The Moody Blues are the one positive that I can take out of those times!

My favorite group of all time folks and that is from the heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Tull29 Mine too.

  • Left school with a first class pass Started work but as second class School taught one and one is two But right now, that answer just ain't true Ahhh Ahhh Ahhhhhhhh.... My world is spinning around Everything is lost that I found People run, come ride with me Let's find another place that's free Ride, ride my see-saw Take this place On this trip Just for me Ride, take a free ride Take my place Have my seat It's for free Ride my see-saw Ride, ride, ride my see-saw Ride my see-saw
  • Ride, ride my see-saw Take this place On this trip Just for me Ride, take a free ride Take my place Have my seat It's for free I worked like a slave for years Sweat so hard just to end my fears Not to end my life a poor man But by now, I know I should have run Run, run my last race Take my place Have this number Of mine Run, run like a fire Don't you run in In the lanes Run for time
  • Be it sight, sound, smell or touch There's something inside that we need so much The sight of the touch Or the scent of the sound Or the strength of an oak With roots deep in the ground The wonder of flowers to be covered And then to burst up Through tarmac To the sun again Or to fly to the sun Without burning a wing To lie in a meadow And hear the grass sing To have all these things In our memories hoard And to use them To help us To find...
  • now if we could just get all the lyrics... naw, just kidding. that would be asking for too much, and we don't even deserve this song!! thanks!

  • i never could understand separating them either. thanks!!

  • I just bought this record a week ago, it's really old looking might be original I don't know but I saw this cover and was like "oh yeah this is gonna be the shit".. I don't have a record player (that works) but the cover is cool enough for the $5 price tag...

Now that I hear it I knew it was going to be great

  • @lepricon989 It's one of their best albums. Enjoy.

  • This song brings back to me thoughts and memories of that magical but long gone era - the 60's.

  • The words are truer now more than ever...

  • Thank You for actuly playing the beginning of this song much respect

  • ART BELL!!!!!!

  • At 1:21 I heard a song that sounded like that but it was sung by women with an syphony, could some one point me in the right direction to finding this song?

  • i always liked this song. but for some reason it doesn't do much for me to hear it now.

  • @jasonwheel your getting old.

  • @jasonwheel Get in your car, on a chilly, lightly rainy day at night on a deserted road, and try again...

  • who is this 1 person? Are you high? Or maybe you should be..no?

  • One of the fondest memories of my grandfather is driving with him through Wyoming listening to this album while hearing him singing along at the top of his lungs and not hitting a single note on key....Then stopping for food and then him telling me the story about how this album influenced him to quit drugs.....Thank you to The Moody Blues for forever immortalizing my grandfather for me.

  • Moody Blues,Pink Floyd,Yes and Emerson,Lake and Palmer ,a good smoke and a fine lady is all you need.

  • Like man, who is the fucking asshole idiot who does not like this song ? Must be a fucking queer guy who wears sandals and socks, drives a Mazda Miata, sips wine and watches Oprah fucking Winfrey.

  • I sing this song when the drugery of being a wal-mart grocery stocker gets to be too much... in fact my co-workers reguarly hear me singing the moody blues at work I love it

  • First time i heard this song i watched my ego melt out my eyes, slide down my chest, then slither away into the woods. I followed this manifestation, resembling oil, into the woods and found myself talking to the Egyptian God of wisdom (Thoth). He told me to write everything down. Every experience i had, anything that seemed important. Subsequently, i now keep a journal of relationships, nights out on the town, interpersonal and intrapersonal dialog. Thanks moody blues!

  • @bumkumalicious damn, what a trip

  • So glad to have a Mono vinyl copy of this album in superb condition, with the mustard coloured DSS Logo on the record label that signifies the Mono release

  • you know, Fizzy...fans of the Moddy Blues already know all of that.

  • Oh this is definitely 'Buzz' music!!!! Hearing this in a Planeterum light show could be a definite trip. I wonder if that was ever done with the Moody Blues music.

  • I don't think they are complex - the arrangements may be - the music isn't that bad. But the vocals, execution - that - that is so sweet

Prog rock got a bad rap - but bands like the moody blues, pink Floyd, Yea - nobody did it better.

Oh -if you want complex - try Yes - best musicians in a single band to my mind.

  • @jimmyc1955 you mean the musicians i n yes were better than the ramones?

  • Hey, Wayne S. Remember 1969, with your dog Woodie and our bud, Herb...listening to this until the grooves wore out of the LP? Good times. Our Days of Future Past.

  • I can't believe that after all of these years that early Moody Blues still brings out the same reaction with younger folks.

It is well and truly amazing. I don't touch drugs at my age but it almost makes me want to drop acid and " Lie in a meadow and hear the birds sing"

  • i love this band and this song... shrooms, acid, robitussin... the means aren't important, it's the destination!!!

  • The Moody Blues don't enhance the trip the blues are the trip.

  • @Pifftoker420 this is one of the best trip records ever made.

  • @snow5crash - Yes, it is.

  • Havent heard these song for many many years.... thanks for posting!

  • Can't wait to see them again this June.

I'm at work watching MB videos instead of working.

    So fire me!

  • Best music of all time. First time high, drunk, and lost virginity to A question of Balance

  • Comment removed

  • this is the bomb, fellow humans! it's the best thing ever!! drop some acid and find out!!

  • this record is right up there with beatles "abbey road" and pink floyd "dark side of the moon". all of idiot humanity must now bow down and say "we're not worthy!". this is GOD talking!!!

  • Interesting few bands do Moody's covers, I guess if you can't do it better than the original, why try. That proves how original they are. The greatest philosopher band ever. As far as I'm concerned this is what will be playing in Heaven at the end of the road. Maybe with a little Marley. Be nice to see Sinatra and Bob singing together- playing ' My Way' off of each other.

  • @TheHawkeyemark hey man, the beatles, floyd and doors were the bomb. but i agree with you, the moody blues were the greatest philosopher band ever. their "in search of the lost chord" was heaven's theme song. and yes, bob would be the encore.

  • @TheHawkeyemark Most bands don't cover their songs because they are so complex. Pink Floyd and Beatles songs sound like 'hot cross buns' in comparison, and most bands just simply cannot pull it off.

  • @IamPersonMan Thanks. I ' m not a rock band musician so I guess I don't understand the complex of them. To me, the simplicity of the message is what I like. Simple in the fact if it resonates within then it must be inate. I battle that complex all the time, being a simple man with complex thoughts. I guess if I had to compete against a voice like Justin's on ' Forever Autumn ' I'd throw my quitar down too ( The Devil Went Down To Georgia) but guitar licks like 'See-saw', I just don't know.

  • @IamPersonMan Loretta Lynn didnt write "complex" songs does that make her shit?

  • I was in the US Navy during the War against Viet Nam. I would get high. I would go to the Recreational Hall, grab all the Moody Blues albums that they had there that day. Find a quiet space where I wouldn’t be bothered. I would put the headphones on and leave the Navy and the war behind until the albums were done. Then it was back to reality, and at that time reality sucked.

  • @GearingDestroyer - God bless ya' my friend. Blues beats bombs every day.

  • window pane, 4 way, quad speakers, ah oh......

  • I'm 14 and I remember when my dad used to play this in the car when like 10 years ago. This is what I was into before metal because I was raised on this. Love it

  • @InsaneGamer921 I was 12 years old and My dad played this song in the car while we were traveling through Oxnard after seeing the Pt mugu air show in '68, The memory of all those Jet fighters and the sun setting along with this song playing, This song is Spactacular.

  • I remember when I was a kid, I used to steal my dads Moody Blues CD and listen to this song over and over. its still my favorite song!

  • i'm in my 20s now but used to listen to this on tape on a walkman when i read, starting when i was around 12. moodies have been my favorite band since then, this album my favorite. there is such an amazing dimension to their music. the poems read between the songs resonated with me, especially departure.

  • From the 1st album of theirs I ever heard. Yup, stoned. No matter...this is 40 years later and I am still awestruck, and haven't been stoned in years. Nothing else like it-likely never will be. RRHOF be damned-membership in there is not a sign of a class act nor talent. This is. Proof is in numbers-53,850 people have taken the time to re-enjoy this song. I'm betting most have heard it a hundred times and still love it and listen to it whenever they can. Just like the rest of their songs.

  • in daze of yore, these two tracks always got peeps fighting for the headphones

    thank you for linking them

  • hamestray has it right. after the beatles bands who didn't write their own songs were looked down on. the rolling stones were told by their manager that they had to try. as it turns out they were brilliant at it. some of the moody blues songs sound a bit pretentious now (to these 59 year old ears) but many of them hold up beautifully. and their musicianship withstands the years. they were the real thing whereas so many 60's bands sound like jokes now.

  • dunno who the nipplehead that thumbed this down but they probably sing justin beiber in their sleep

  • 51 yrs old still rockin' to these guys. saw em twice in concert!!

  • @rogseil -48 and never had the fortune to see them. You have very good taste in music! When I mention this band to the younger crowd I usually get a smirk or a blank stare. Even with those my own age I get the same sort of response. More power to you and I think I'll see if I can get my old turntable working again so I can listen to all of my original "Moody Blues" albums complete with all the snaps and crackles.

  • @Tull29 Sixteen here, And I'm a fan of the Moody Blues, Hippies have hippy kids. :P To truely experience Synesthesia is a very amazing experience, I hope some of you have had the opportunity. [For those who haven't dropped, described in the line, "The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound."]

  • This has one of the shortest ,sweetest guitar solos i can recall.i'd pick the needle up on my LP to hear it over & over.

  • Happy Birthday Justin! Thanks much!

  • I remimber when they played this song on the radio when I was just a kid thanks for the trip down memory lane :)

  • Now THIS is how you start the best Moody Blues album. What a trip!

  • I love The Moody Blues, I use to trip on acid listening to them.

  • @Lindajo1955 Is your last name Byrd? I used to have a friend named Linda Byrd in high school. I'd sleep over at her house and we'd stay up all night tripping listening to the Moody Blues.

  • My kids used to call this the scary song because of Departure. This one of my daughters favorite groups. A Moody Blues concert was her birthday gift for 5 years.

  • Terry Osborn....ride your See-Saw

  • I love 'Departure' and 'ride My See Saw'! I saw them twice in concert, and they performed "Ride My See Saw' both times. Does anyone have a video of them actually performing 'Departure'?

  • A real Moodies classic I grew up with.

"Left school with a first class pass,

Started work but as second class.

School taught one and one is two,

But by now that answer just ain't true."

Blimey, those words are so true especially in today's economy and work environments.

  • without a doubt, one of my all-time favorite bands,

  • Absolutely spectacular blast from my not so didtant past.

    rKA/Sis

  • ;-)

  • @StephenB58 they probably are having a great time because this is a great song and yes this song will always kick ass

  • An arquebus is traditionally known as an old fashion type of musket or long barrel type of artillery. In fact, it is the vril/radiant energy that allows fluid thought to move.

  • This song will eternally kick ass.

  • i didn't heard this song from almost 30 years ago !!! A very special album. Om to all

  • @xavierbloggz. that is cool. great memories for you. and i agree, their music will last forever. :-)

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever..Bound to stay in Music History. These Guys were eons ahead.........

  • Fantastic short guitar break by Justin Hayward at 2:58.....a very underrated guitarist.....

  • The Moodys always had a lot of heart mixed with a great amount of intrinsic wisdom that seemed to come natural to them. I became a fan in 1968.

  • I love this song.

  • Fantastic LP , One of their best .......

  • whata take a ride? To talk to Art Bell..........

  • SIMPLY THE BEST

  • That album cover is bad ass!

  • They are the best.

  • Wow! I'm elated to see I am not alone in my reaction to this powerhouse band. The album In Search of the Lost Chord caught the attention of something like a Billion People when it was released in about 1970. The band still uses it as either an opening or an encore song in their concerts. I love the Moody Blues and am still waiting for them to be surpassed 40 years later.........

  • @KENZOWAL i agree the Moodys are above the hall of fames criteria. the are a step above for sure im 44 and play their tunes each and every day fMy family older and younger than I are pure Moody Blues fans

  • In Search of the Lost Chord is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard...period...It's the ONLY album I own that I can play all the way through and be perfectly happy without skipping over a song.♥

  • An awesome song from an awesome group. The best in the business. Tony Clarke was one of the greatest producers ever on this and other MB albums.

  • Killer album cover

  • or maybe not

  • you need to be stoned for that to take effect.

  • I don't listen to the words...I let the music engulf me.

  • It's about a guy who wants someone else to take up his humdrum existance so he can go do something exciting. Lodge probably felt like that pretty often before his music career took off.

  • What's Jumpin' Off?! Any Delaware Valley-ites remember the #1 Soul Brother Psychedelic Phil from Camden, NJ? Late 60's to mid 70's Used to throw the wildest house parties for "Heads Only." Been told he was at Camden Co College from '75-'78. Holler at me if you know/knew him!

  • I keep expecting to hear, "Art Bell is in the big chair...call the wild card line at...."

  • splendidi :)

  • thanks for posting this! I have always loved the Moody Blues albums with their songs connected! Damn myself for having to sell all of my record collection!

  • Does this song have any sexual connotations?

  • @WingChunLova

Nope, it's a drug anthem. Specifically LSD.

  • I see, thanks

  • Finally. I've been listening to old C2CAM broadcasts and Art Bell plays the opening all the time. Been driving me crazy for months.

  • i heard this song on shrooms...it was like...major trip!!

  • @shesgone227 a good trip, i imagine!!

  • @shesgone227 Didn't need to do 'shrooms to get off on any of the "Core 7" music. After all, "Thinking IS the best way to travel"...

  • In 66 my band played support to the Moodys at the famous Marquee Club in Soho London it was a live radio Luxemburg show. They were great didn't even ask for the money they lent to us to buy some beers before the show. Carried their music for years thro Africa still play it I have most of their CDs. Class band and music will last for ever!

  • @xavierbloggz Wow, how exciting for you....They are one of THE classics. When I listen to them my white hair turns black again, and I'm a young beautiful girl stoned out of my giggy.!! Now I'm an a beautiful BABYBOOMER still out of my "giggy" listening to TMB on a Sunday at the Jersey Shore USA, [Bruce Springsteen's Jersey Shore]..Pretending it's 1970

  • @xavierbloggz awesome through africa...cool

  • @xavierbloggz way cool dude!

  • The very ending scared the heck outta me!

    That big BOOM sound.

    I had this song blaring.

  • inseparable

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha!!!!

  • I love this song. That mad laugh at the beginning sets the mood for me. hahahahahaha!!!

  • @th0reau1 I know, that laugh is just the best. Reminds me of Roger Waters for some reason. ;)

  • Let us not forget Tony Clarke! His work at the mixing board was as important as the music insofar as the "Moody Blues Sound" is concerned.

That said, I think I wore out 2 or 3 stylus' (styli?) listening to these guys.

  • This music was amazing to us in 1972-73, in the thrall of adolescense,,, after all these years its still relevant and amazing!

  • 72 - 73 ?? .... Lets go back to 1968 when it was born , the best was parents in there mid 30's tapping there feet to this song [ like if it were the song ' windy ' to them ' ?? -- otherwise me on my big wheely in 1968 use to have this song go thru my mind when I would travel around the block to my grandparents , during the hippy days in ridgewood NY !! -- Lets Go jets , then and now !

  • I have this music on cassette in my car and at home, my kid and his friends like it too! And maybe someday our grandchildren will enjoy it the same...I like your reflections of being on your big-wheel n'cruising to this song to your grandparents pad - cool! Righteous Memories - yahhh! Go Jets! ; )

  • If the NY Jets win tomorrow , look for namath , david crosby , regis philman , goldie hawn and the whole entire Wood stock brigade from the late 60's generation come pouring out of the wood work , by glorifying our beloved jets ...lolololo --

  • Not only will I expect to see them make an appearance, I'll expect the Mummy, It, Thing, Them, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse . . .lol!

  • The Beatles wrote music for every emotions. There is no one on this thread that can tell me there is not one Beatles song they like. If they do, they are either lying or have no ear for music whatsoever. They have a song for everyone, and the harmony between Lennon and McCartney just adds to their list of achievements. And as far as the Stones go (obviously another ridiculously talented band) they borrowed plenty of tricks from the Beatles too.....

  • so ???

  • The Moody Blues are great, I grew up listening to them along with The Beatles, The Stones, all that old shit my Dad used to pump into my ears from birth.... With that said, all these comments discrediting the Beatles are a little rediculous. Judging by them i thought it was gonna say you wre all like 18. Regardless of whether you personally enjoyed there music or not is, it was still amazing. Although great,, the Moody Blues sound was often progressive (like the other dude said).

  • The Beatles were so overated. I think the Rolling Stones are a better group; as well as Chicago. I think the Moody Blues are the greatest rock band, ever.

  • I recently saw the moody blues in NYC they were great the only disapointment was there are only 3 originals in the band and when they did ride my seesaw for thier encour they didnt lead in with departure cauz grahm edge wrote it and left the band but over all they were right on

  • Its a great jam, nobody could touch there talent. I miss those years..it was like yesterday. I never heard this song in Canada(no radio stations) but it was loud and proud in Lansing Michigan.
