  • najbolji komičar.....kralj nasmijem se do suza....

  • So cute! I liked it. Actually I loved it a LOTTTTTT. Lol.

  • This man is pure gold

  • 21 People don't think that music should also be fun! It IS supposed to be fun!

  • 2:36 I don't know what to say :D That made me laugh so hard that I woke my parents. Just look at his face when he turns around.

  • 21 people don,t have sense of humor , and don,t appreciate the art

  • That poor violin! D:

  • just played this at my concert tonight on cello :)

  • ROFL

  • Oh gawd, his every mannerism is just diabolical laughter. He can't be mimicked.

  • I have ALL his recordings and his book -- signed. There was no one better. May you rest with Gods, the genius.

By the way, the tall gay that hands him props is his son.

  • Seriously, people who think that the comedy should have ended when the music started, whats your problem? I am a musician myself and I LOVE WHEN COMEDY AND MUSIC MIX!!! Music can be serious, but some of us musicians have the greatest senses of humor. Sounds like some of you need to get one too. I love Victor Borge, he was a true comic genius AND MUSICIAN.

  • This is what comedy should be like...

  • They're not going to be able to play after 2:15.

  • epic!!!!!! i love this!

  • One of Victor Borge's nicknames was "the Great Dane" (since he was from Denmark). Very appropriate!

  • I've been using Internet for about 10 years now. How the hell could I miss that?

  • The world needs more comedy like this!

  • never let borge conduct... you'll just laugh your head off!

  • Grandad humour - good, but should have stopped when the music started.

  • @Shtove - Know what? The audience was still laughing at what Victor Borge was doing after the music started. Maybe they knew something that YOU need to know - how to get a sense of humor.

  • @Shtove Considering it's called 'Dance of the Comedians,' a good deal of it is probably written into the piece.

  • :)

  • Looks like the musicians have to stifle their laughter just to be able to play, haha.

  • I found this from the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cartoons, and I realize I should have known this much, much, much, earlier than now.

  • are some people putting us on? because in the things like this or Marilyn Mulvey, some people dont realise this is a put on and rehearsed

  • The last one is great ... but this is Pure Genius! :)

  • Where is the "I LOVE" button? What a genious! RIP

  • I thought I had seen all of Victor Borge's performances, but missed this hilarious gem. Thanks for posting it!

  • oh concertmaster hahahha

  • Victor is very sadly missed...

  • 4:55 is one of my favorite moments in all comedy history.

  • @DavisHanscom What happened? All I heard was a "BANG"

  • @einstienear thats what she said

  • 18 people are Carnivorus Contrarius.

    1502 people are Approveus Acceleratibus

  • he can get a new violin at a thrift store or a used music store

  • i wonder what it would be like if an orchestra just played a piece from the music without a conductor?

  • @MichaelHansenFUN

Experienced musicians would have a good idea of how fast the tempos indicated need to be played, though some variance between individual tempos is expected. It's possible they'd listen to the other musicians and adjust accordingly. If the piece has a fermata, though, I could see that resulting in chaos.

  • @MichaelHansenFUN

I was in the orchestra in school and we went on tour to small towns and performed for smaller school's. We would play scores from Disney movies and other cartoons. Wayne's World had come out, everyone knew Bohemian Rhapsody, kids loved that one. Anyhow, our finale was a jazz/rock number called Trumpets With Attitude. Our conductor would count out 1-2-3-4 (to give us our tempo), and then step away and let us play on our own. It sounds great and got a big reaction!

  • 18 people in this world with no sense of humor and no appreciation for the genius that was Victor Borge.

  • just great, adds a bit of humanity to this often very still format, he could be a great inspiration to young people in the schools..

  • i wish all conductors were like this

  • Love love love it! This man is a legend!

  • He's like the classical version of Spike Jones.

  • 4:39 HEEEEEEEEY.

  • @showjumper5280 he walks off... 5 sec. later *BANG* violin Chair 2 moves over... and at the end he is walking out with a Violin with a broken neck. this is Eugenius, a true comedic masterpiece.

  • We could use another one of him...and George Carlin.

  • It took him nearly 3 minutes to START the song XD

  • man, I would have LOVED to have met him or played with him!!!!

  • Check out my Silent Hill Homecoming version of this? It´s awesome ;)

  • he is just about the ONLY man appropriate for conducting a piece called "Dance of the Comedians"

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILLINAT, what a total GENIUS Victor was/is and we have all his magic on youtube to enjoy.. My chuckle muscles have had a work-out today.. hee hee :0)x

  • He's just such a delightfully silly man! He was able to take classical music, usually something that's seen as boring, and made it so much fun!

  • omg thats fuh-nee

  • HHHEEEEEEYYYY!!!!!! *POINT*

  • When the concertmaster came back with the broken violin I gasped. Then I slowly figured out that it was most probably a prop for the show. But still...it was a nasty shock. Then again, it all evens out.

  • This man is a genius! I don't think that I could play for him though.

  • This man is a genius!

  • Brilliant, original, unforgettable and one of a kind Victor Borge Was and is in our hearts and mememories. Thank you and God bless your soul.

  • does anyone know the name of the orchestra he was conducting?

  • okay we get it...jesus every video of a comedian from the past someone always fucking says "you dont get comedy like this anymore its just not the same"

  • I absolutely LOVE this sketch. Although I have to admit that the musician in me had a bit of a heart attack when I saw the concert master come back at the end with a broken violin. =P

  • EPIC.

  • :-))))) Superbe, morte de rire. Merci, ça fait du bien.

  • of course, for the people who didn't know him, they would think he is crazy.

  • is it me or is this music piece used in road runner alot

  • The man that handed him the score was his son. Ron.

  • The man that gave him the score was his son. Ron.

  • What year was this filmed?

  • This is about as funny as watching Danny Kaye with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra!

  • hes so funny!!!

  • X'D

  • BAHAH!!!

  • Great comedy. Something that will always a good comedic relief.

  • One of a kind. He was truly a grand man.

  • Danish humour at its best. Spent his last years in Southbury Connecticut. Thx for posting these vids.

  • ...at 0:33 "Do we have a score?"

And then someone from the audience shouts out "Yeah 14-6"

  • "HEY!!!" the guys leaves, -snap-

  • can you imagine living with this funny guy...hilarious...love him

  • OH MY GOSH THIS GUY CRACKS ME UP

  • How do the members of the orchestra keep from falling to the floor with laughter?

  • HEEYYY!!! *gunshot*

  • @ZhengStudios No he broke his violin out of anger and embarrassment thats what is says in the score

  • @kaykayboy23 really!? I'd always thought it was a gunshot....in an alternate performance borge gives the thunbs down so i thought it was ordering his execution?

  • @ZhengStudios lol

  • WHEN DID HE DIE??????

  • @linda1067 December of 2000.

  • Which orchestra is it? They re good

  • I love this man. He's adorable and funny and talented! or was...

  • @3Blue3Moon3 :[

  • Victor Borge is an artist of his own kind in his own right, Bravo, Maestro, Bravo!!

  • he's a giant !

  • Flipping fantastic !!!

  • That was amazing!!!

  • everytime i see a huge orchestra and a leopold looking composer like that, it ALWAYS brings me back to the old bugs bunny cartoons. plus dance of the comedians, bugs bunny, road runner, wile coyote, thats good stuff.

  • This man is just what we NEED in the times we are in now!!!!!!!!!!GREAT HUMOR

  • lol!

  • this man is good....or rather, was good. but still is. =D

  • any other violinists out there gasp when they saw the fingerboard dangling from the violin? lol.. my mind: "AAAAA!!!!!!! oh wait, wait, it's a PROP, calm down..." ;)

  • I love that clip :)

  • I laughed so hard it hurts now.

  • He was two of my three favourite comedians. Absolutely twoderful.

  • @dittoheadAZ who was your other favourite?

  • @Outrun37 Bill Cosby, ever since my parents let me listen to their album "Twoderfulness" when I was young. The crenineive genius of that guy will fiveever be a joy three hear.

  • 4:36 - 5:05 is my favourite part! HEYYY!

  • Oh wow...I'll take this over that Bugs Bunny conductor cartoon (Baton Bunny) ANY DAY!!! :)

  • Has anyone found Victor's funny tea break sketch on Youtube??, it's really good!

  • he makes my stomach hurt!

  • in a good way or bad?

  • in a GREAT way, love vic, guess i should have worded that different:)

  • i thought you were bleeding....

  • "HEY!!!!!!!"

  • Just look at the faces of the orchestra ,they are having as much fun as the audience

  • victor is awesome may he rest in peace

  • I've heard this in so many Wile E. Coyote & Roadrunner cartoons. Awesome!! And the concertmaster gets "shot" offstage. Sheer comedic genius.

  • The man wasn't just a comedian, he was also an exceptional musician. In this he reminds a bit of Tommy Cooper who had an act as a constantly failing magician, but who was in reality a leading member of London's Black circle. Look up "Victor Borge improvising on the piano" to see just how good he was.

  • This man is amazing!

  • a true entertainer

  • Albert Einstein - Genius of Physicist

= Victor Borge - Genius of Comedy!

  • when was this?

  • 1989. There were numerous celebrations throughout America and Europe for Victor's 80th birthday. This was near Washington DC at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts.

  • Victor Borge rules!!! he was GREAT BWAAAhahahaha

  • BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • Haha! He is so hilarious. You just don't get comedy like this anymore! It's all profanity and sex nowadays

  • @technogandhi i know what u mean dude, i miss the old days, when there were just old timey humor like victor borge, and Who's on first, Tom and jerry even..!

  • loud noise at 4:55?

  • You are a bit slow aren't you? Its a gun shot. Victor has sent the 1st violin off, and soonafter we hear a gunshot. When he reappears at the end, his violin is broken. I'm sure you can come to your own conclusion.

  • This is "Dance of the Comedians" composed by Bedrich Smetana, part of his opera The Bartered Bride. (Note: that's BARTERED, as in 'traded'.)

  • Who was the composer of this piece?

  • OMG that's the page turner dude!

  • Is this his Birthday concert?

  • Yes.

  • Very funny. Next time I see fumbling of music, I will remember this video.

  • "Whehe :)"

    Exactly.

  • Yes he is from Denmark!!! :D

  • LOL. "...when this ovation has died down, of course." :)

  • I grew up with VCR recordings of Victor Borge's performances. Pure genius! RIP, you still have fans the world over!

  • I wonder if that part where he threw out the Concertmaster was planned. I mean, the broken violin at the end could either mean that he was so humiliated that he broke his violin, or it was just all planned out

  • Yes, it was planned. Borge did this bit a million times, and that was always part of the gag, with the concertmaster apparently shooting himself when he gets backstage.

  • It's all part of the routine and I'm sure the busted violin was just a prop they had backstage ready for the violinist to bring back out.

  • the funniest orchestra conductor that i've ever seen!!hahaha

  • Yes he does throw out the Concertmaster. That's the title of the first violin.

  • Victor Borge is one of the funniest comedians!

  • We are proud that he's from Denmark...

  • WE PROUD THAT HE IS JEWISH

  • that's his son that comes on stage

  • Hehe and he is Danish :D

  • are you?

  • HE IS JEWISH FROM DENMARK

  • Hes my favorite comedian of all time :)

  • PURE MASTER!!!!!!!!!!!! funny funny funny

  • bollocks bradmaster13 this proves that older people can be young at heart he was like my grandfather a japanese prisoner of war and was on the last ship back to england after the normandy landings

  • My boys get a kick out of this one. They like the way he dances to direct and acts like he can't find the trumpet player. They especially like when he jumps at certain points. But their favorite part is when the first violinist gets kicked off the stage for not stopping when he's supposed to be holding. (They've been around music since they were tiny and know you have to watch the director!) If you like this, check out Danny Kaye's direction. But don't do it with something in your mouth!

  • Classic comedy is brilliant!!! I love Victor!!!

  • Genius. That's the best use I've ever seen for those flimsy folding stands!

  • @jpacold amen

  • He was an absolute genius!! Brilliant!!!! :)

  • Victor you are the best

  • I laughed like crazy went he sent that poor chap off to be "shot." XD

  • lol

  • He's supposed to have shot himself. a violin doesn't smash that loud.

  • I think he shot the violin instead.

  • ROFL! Brilliant!! He is hysterical! Had the pleasure of seeing him live in one of his last performances and it was absolutely fantastic!! Nothing but love for him :)

  • I think this is his best performance

  • What a lovely man. He really takes away the artificial seriousness in classical/orchestral music.

  • I had the pleasure of performing with him back in the late 70s or early 80s. The "stagehand" is actually his son, which I thought was very cool.

And yes, the piece is Smetana's Bartered Bride, not Dance of the Comedians.

  • Actually the piece IS Dance of the Comediants (or "Skočná") - from Smetana's opera Bartered Bride ;-)

  • what's this piece called?

  • Dance of the Comedians.

  • It's actually a piece from the opera "The Bartered Bride" by Smetana.

  • male, female...or any kind of male...

lol this is great! this guy is such a genius!! i love it when he does his phonetic punctuation and inflationary languag, too!

  • Thats the funniest thing i heart in my life...

  • thx mephaz85.. i guess that helps a lil... lol

still a great performance.. it made me laugh hard

  • i can't decide whether he is a more brilliant comedian or musician...

  • A great man...he is to be remembered forever in the future!

By the way....why did he suddenly shout "HEY!" and then kicked the violinist out?
