I remember Paul playing at a Namm show in 1980. We were both at different venues near each other. I could hear him playing just great finger style guitar. What a perfect player he was , a country gentlemen. I wish I had gotten to know him better, but his music will live on.
WoWeeeee! I'm in love with a dead man. This is the first I've known of Mr Yandell. What a lot of enjoyment I will have finding all of his music. 25years with Chet. "could match Chet and Jerry lick by lick." proves fame is a fickle bitch devil. I'm happy as a lark at this moment. His music will live on forever no bout adout it.
Paul Yandell will and always be one of the Greatest Guitar Players to ever live and now him Chet and Jerry Reed will be rejoined forever we're gonna miss you this is tragic Chets family just gave him the last C.G.P Award this past August my condolences goes out to his family.
Several years ago I emailed Mr Yandell to compliment his website. And he emailed me back! We chatted about Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins. I had seen Chet and Paul play in my hometown of York, PA in the early 90's and he remembered the venue and complimented the sounds of the stage there. He was a true gentleman. I suspect Chet and Jerry were waiting for him...tho Jerry might hide his thumbpick from him. Safe Passage Mr. Yandell. You will be missed.
Rest in peace my friend, you´ll never know how good you made me feel trying to be better on guitar and listening your superb touch always in the backtrack like the great secondary actors, my life was better with you, I´ll pray for you and your family from Spain, we will meet soon........
His name may not be Chet Atkins but ol' Paul was one of the greatest guitarist ive ever heard he plays with quility and passion and heart thats the way music is meant to be enjoyed not todays crap thats not music todays stuff is well u cant understand it im 18 and hearing paul chet jerry is the greatest music ive ever heard thanx for the wonderful and thanx to the good lord for giving us the chance to hear three of goods most amazing wonders of the world cause im sure there still pickin up ther
Wonderful. I've been a long time fan and consider you one of the true giants. I only hope that Chet expressed the full measure of his appreciation for your fine gifts and boundless talent. Chet Atkins was a great man and a master of the guitar but it was clear early on that you had earned your place, not behind him, but by his side. Thank you for the many years of joyful music. Joe T
Good sounds! Anyone see the vids of Paul playing the Merle Travis acoustic a couple years ago on youtube? I want to see them posted again grrrr! But not in my dreams haha.
@eddard1956 Yes Paul worked with Fonzie on WNGO radio station when he was a teenager. I went with him to the station and was thrilled that my brother was on the radio. It was a big deal back in the 50's in Graves county.
i heard him play at sharpe high school in the early fifties, he was just great, at an ffa meeting. i remember the fonzie davis band. i missed a lot of their music by working out of town for a lot of years.
Paul Yandell,,,,, What do you say about a true living legend? Such great tones and riffs. The fact that he played with Chet for 25 years, had everything to do with the whole CGP idea, kept Jerry Reed on his toes, and this man still answers his emails personally. I think the music light is a little brighter thanks to this great, great musical genius called Paul, Thank you Mr, Yandell for a lifetime of beautiful music you have given to so many and inspired countless people to pick up a guitar.
Paul Yandell is an inspiration to me, because he obviousely had humble beginnings--but stuck with a dream all his life. Playing with the best players in the world says a lot about his own natural talents, and all that he was willing to learn from the great ones. Now HE is a great one. I'm going to at long last buy a guitar and put my heart into learning, I wish Paul was my brother, or uncle, or cousin, and lived a mile away!!! Imagine sitting at his feet and learning so much. Bruce
Just had to come by for another listen. Paul is my hero. Impeccable taste and an uncanny understanding of what, when and how much. God bless you Paul.
Thanks so much for the effort in putting this together Darrell.
Paul is fantastic. He and Chet and Merle Travis are the top guitar players in country music in particular. This tribute is so special and the pictures you have shared in this video are really appreciated. I love this tune- a classic for all time. We love Paul - our daughter introduced him to us back in the 80's.
Thank you for posting. RIP Paul Yandell
