OMG you guys are newbs, like big bewbs, what really matters is the photographer taking the photo, camera is simply a tool, i bet i can get better pictures using my iphone.
D80 is a far superior camera. Rebels are just point and shoots on steroids. The D80 can take many more Nikon lenses than the Rebel can take Canon lenses. XSI would be better compared to the D40 and D40x Nikon cameras.
yeah and like for instance im debating qhether to choose Nikon D40 or the Cannon Rebel XSi, and they are both equaly good its just personal preferancces for how the two run, are setup, settings and difficulty.
im getting the Cannon Rebel XSi with the 75-300mm extended lense!
I like D80 for the kit lens it offered,it's kinda useful because it covers the focal length for daily use^^But what bugging me a lot is the lack of VR on the lens and no sensor cleaning.I think the sensor is also the major difference between 450D and D80 too.450D seems to handle noise better than D80 from what I had experimented. The controls are just almost the same, there are hard buttons for each function what we use quite often. These two cameras are not hard to understand, pick what you like^^
Here is the thing. If your an armature and want to become a professional, buy the Nikon. Nikon makes in my opinion much better cameras and much better lenses. I have a D80 d300 and d3, i have also used the xsi and the xti, and I can say with full confidence that Nikon makes a better quality camera. Plus they have the best customer support eva!
you do have a [oint but the xsi is for consumers not professionals and with all those pint and shooters im sure alot of them would like having the option between live view and optical viewfinder
live view comes in handy a lot, actually. in studio, when taking pictures at awkward angles, when you need to shoot above your head, i even find viewfinders aggravating when i wear my glasses while shooting.
well im gonna say no to that even though i love the nikon d40! I do action shooting so i need the fps in the xsi and the megapixels for blowing up pics to a large size for nature photos but the d40 is perfect for a first time slr user or even a pro keeping a spare under the car seat for that perfect shot from the car you see
both cameras are great, but i would have to favor the xsi over the d80, u suprizingly use live view alot, its great for portraits, macro shoting and much more!
This is a very difficult question, because the comparison itself aint straight. First of all, the D80 is a semipro, and the 450D is a consumer, therefore the extra lcd and the price gap. I owned a 450D for about a year and it's an excellent camera, but due to my new job as a photographer for a local paper, i now use a EOS 40D. Love it. I Actually think that the 40D would be a better comparison to the D80, yet, EOS 40D is better. The Nikon D80 is a camera somwhere between the 450D and the 40D.
not really even the xsi wipes the d80 with its 12.2 mp vs 10.2, 3.5 fps vs 3, 3 inch screen in screen vs 2.5, live view vs nothing. Its not about semi pro vs consumer or whatever vs whatever its the features included in the camera the quality, and its picture. Now all you have to do npow is understand your camera. and anyway i made this review because this is a common draw for people and they dont know what to pick ok
I see you hardly knew nothing about digital cameras. 2 extra Megapixels? 0.5 fps faster?
How many times do you use a Liveview without autofocus anyway? What really makes difference, is the sensor. D80's sensor is made of much finer raw-materials than the XSI. Also the image-processor is a better.
The 2 extra megapixels is really just to look "better" out in the market, since newbies is rather fond with high megapixels rate. The D80 remains a better camera, i know since a handled them both.
you obviously dont know anything if you havent noticed. 0.5 frames is way faster go look up xti vs xsi framrate its 3 fps vs 3.5 hear the difference ok? and what if i wanna use the liveview gotta problem? and 12.2 vs 10.1 is not just to look better its compacting more into a consumer product. also if your doing portrait pictures do you know what a problem you have when you blow up the picture? You obviously dont know crap about dslr's! go learn something and p.s. i've handled them both 2!
look man, i'm not going to babble anymore since there's no point of doing so. All i'm saying is, you cant "save" 200$ and recieve a better DSLR. That's just how it is. If you can't figure that out, then i'm sorry for you.
Nontheless, the 450D is a great camera. No doubt about that. Anyway, i wish you best of luck with your new camera.
my choice would be definetly the canon rebel xsi or 450d, the lcd is bigger and you get live view, more megapixles, and a cool thing undre the view finder that shuts off the lcd.
Just got a D80. I once had the XSi and I traded it back. Sure the larger screen was nice, but all in all, I think the D80 is more of a semi-pro offering.
i have had my d80 for almost two years now and it has been superb never sad no and the battery is crazy i can shoot all day and it wil still hold half the charge and that is important if you are say at the park or a race or whatever
im waiting to recieve my xsi. which i picked because i already have canon lenses. although i must say the large lcd has a bling factor when people see your camera. if i didnt already have lenses it might have been a different story. but im pretty sure i wouldnt factor in the kit lens, because id sooner just get body only and get my own lenses for it.
I'm thinking about going with the D80 right now. The continuous shooting is much higher with the D80 and something I like about it. Since the D90's release the D80 should reduce in price a little.
The D80 is a superior camera. Just picked one up myself over the Canon XS and XSi. Why? The D80 has a better battery life (good for road trip photo shoots), auto focus mechanics for all Nikon lenses (even if the lens is not auto focus), super clear screen (0.5 is not that much), and better feel in your hands (big grip and solid weight). I can go on but as a graphic designer not wanting to spend over $2K for and outfit this was as close as I could get to that objective.
Who say that Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSI/450D is better than Nikon D80, don't know what's mean photography

live view is pointless. it just means your too lazy to use the viewfinder.
and if the d80 is too hard to understand then you clearly dont know how to use a slr
