I hate seeing things like this. I was one of those little kids back in those days. I lived 2 streets over from East Lake Meadows. Yes, it is now a much nicer community but what did this really do? This took the homes of people who knew no other life. This put an expansive golf course where there could have been a community center or something more helpful to the people already there. I have been to that golf course ONE time, but hey at least Tiger Woods gets to play there every year.

Yeah..it may be heaven, but guess who lives in former East Lake Meadows today. The whole plan was to move specific people out, and move specific people in. It doesn't solve anything, and it definately doesn't save anyone. It is just a matter of relocation, and an increase in prices, that not everyone can afford. It is made to look as if these people are saviors, but if you ride through there today, I guarantee you will not see the same faces that you saw before the renovation.

@Bizdet They put the condos there to rehab the area. To many people have died there over nothing so it was time for someone of power to step in. Some of the people who lived in the old neighborhood were allowed to move to the new East Lake apartments under a special low income housing agreement. Kids were allowed to attend the new high tech grammar & middle school on the grounds
@tierren well yeah the area might look a bit better, but can you really tell me that suddenly all of the folks in poverty who were in those projects suddenly were able to afford middle class living just because they constructed some condos and a golf course? The area might change, but believe me I know from gentrification in Boston that putting expensive condos and expensive stores in an area doesn't help the PEOPLE who were living there. I hate seeing things like this. I was one of those little kids back in those days. I lived 2 streets over from East Lake Meadows. Yes, it is now a much nicer community but what did this really do? This took the homes of people who knew no other life. This put an expansive golf course where there could have been a community center or something more helpful to the people already there. I have been to that golf course ONE time, but hey at least Tiger Woods gets to play there every year.

Yeah..it may be heaven, but guess who lives in former East Lake Meadows today. The whole plan was to move specific people out, and move specific people in. It doesn't solve anything, and it definately doesn't save anyone. It is just a matter of relocation, and an increase in prices, that not everyone can afford. It is made to look as if these people are saviors, but if you ride through there today, I guarantee you will not see the same faces that you saw before the renovation.

The real A-town already know how it went down back in the day, people constantly move here now not having any idea on how bad it really was at one point in time, the olympics was this cities changing point, the A-town was one big ol' slum. We had the #1 murder rate and was always in the top 3 in terms of the murder rate from a period from the 70s to the mid 90s. We just didn't get the publicity like cities such as Compton, Harlem, and the Southside of Chicago.

Some of the people who lived in the old neighborhood were allowed to move to the new East Lake apartments under a special low income housing agreement. Kids were allowed to attend the new high tech grammar & middle school on the grounds

I wouldn't say East Lake is like heaven now but Its a hell of a whole lot safer than it was when i was lil and runnin round dat way. But they act like they did something miraculous or whatever. All they did was tear down the old Eastlake Meadows and raised the rent. Just like they doin all over the A now. @atlysrayl I Know 1st hand how it used to be cause I was raised in and around East Lake Meadows and I live on E.Lake Dr right now. All I'm sayin is that the reason it aint as much crime as it used to be is because of all the gentrification that been goin on in the A in the recent years. The old hood folks can barely afford to stay round here no mo so they have to spread to other areas like the ones I mentioned earlier.

East Lake Meadows was torn down back in 96 with Techwood and Clark Howell. What do you need proof of and what are you proving yourself.
