WOW This thing has more mechanical suspension noise than anything I've ever heard. Not good.

@svtcontour Probably because they're running it in open air, which is not good for a subwoofer. The sub needs the air behind it for a rebound, it acts like an air cushion.

@baggedandblown Well I can see that but I have a few woofers here at home and none make so much noise. I have some Vifa 8" and 10" woofers and some Dayton models with very little mechanical noise until it hits its absolute limit.

Now maybe the machanical noise from this driver would get drowned out by the bass once its in a box but still seems kind of loud.

@svtcontour Looks like they have never delt with a JL Audio subwoofer. I personally have had a JL W3 play almost at maximum excursion in free air and the make NO mechanical noise at all. Its like if it were not there...that's pure sound quality!

@Bassotronics there you go :)  That is definitely quality. I'm sure this earthquake sub would be quiet if it was only moving half as much but then IMO it shouldnt be rated for high xmax like it is. The JL subs are amongst my favorite car subs. Even their cheap models perform well.

@TheKwesi23 i would recomend it. i have a dbxi d12 run by a rockford p1000 at 500 watts 2 ohm, id recomend the dual voice coil, and definately get a good box, lots of airspace at least 3 cubic feet. and tuned. just make sure you have enough power to run it. im very happy with mine and they are unique not a very widely known brand because most local shops wont carry them, as long as you have enough power id say 400 rms minimum, go for it

The speaker makes sound VIA creating air pressure witch can not be done in a "free air" test

So when a woofer is not in a box the sound is different. (you hear the wind it makes)

Nice excursion dude!

Watch out, out of a enclosure, a subwoofer is able to make a TO big excursion and blows. but this is really nice!
