I had both systems. PSX was superior to Saturn in every way. What killed me about Saturn was, it was fourth console to be released by Sega in just a few short years, and we were getting sick of it. Once I bought my Playstation, that was all she wrote for my tenure as a Sega Saturn player.
Sega=a-lot of talented developers but horrible business men and lacked great visionaries on the Console side.Sega was bringing out a new system every 2 to 3 years on Average.Also Silicon Graphics the maker of the N64 approached Sega before they approached Nintendo about creating their next Gen system but Sega turned them down and wound up making a way to difficult to develop for system and an expensive one to boot.Then Sega went on to create the under powered Dreamcast which have no DVD player.

Shenmue should've been that game for the Dreamcast. It had a lot of aspects that were really revolutionary at the time, a day/night cycle, changing weather patterns, and even npc's who followed their own schedules. Unfortunately the name and the advertising sucked, and it underperformed...
I got a Saturn once. I got "Bug!" and "Sonic Jam" for it. Damn, were those games hard to find. But I don't have them anymore, much to my dismay. Anyway, the Sega Saturn really did fail in comparison to the PlayStation. Not that Sega didn't make cool stuff back then, but Sony won that round in the console war, no doubt about it.

If they hadn't attacked, they might never have broken Nintendo's virtual monopoly in the US. Don't get me wrong, the commercials alone didn't help the Genesis, but Sega did step up to Nintendo and make them fight for every percent of market share in the 90's. They stuck with it too long when it was time to change tactics, but in the end, that's just a footnote. The best commercials in the world wouldn't have helped them escape from the legacy of the 32X, SCD, and Saturn

Wow. It's this kind of promotion, and the fact that Sony focused on the GAMES, that helped the PS1 become the first console to sell over 100 million worldwide, making it the second best in the world. I wanted a Saturn so much, but it was just too dang expensive! Needless to say, I loved my PlayStation for five years, am on my seventh year on my PS2 and will love my PS3 like a sister that I never had. Plus, I think there are plans to bring those old Saturn titles to Wii Virtual Console.

PS3 has been in development since 1999. Sony is trying to choose a HPC for PS4 from one of Intel's new HPC either "Larrabee" or "Knights Corner" If these don't begin production, PS4 may never see the light of day.
I have friends that work at Sony in Japan, they told me just recently, they have already begain work on the PS4 and it will come out in 2014 and the PS3 will be phased out in 2015.

SEGA had plans for a console from its 2005 arcade machine LINDBERGH but scrapped it due to its high costs. They've been working on both hardware machines RINGEDGE and SEGADRIVE since 2007 and 2008. SEGA was also awarded exclusive rights to use IMAGETECH's Power VR 6 GPU which can produce Avatar-like graphics.
The President of Sega told some guys from a game Mag online that Sega doesn't plan to get back in the Hardware Market in the future and is happy making games for PS3. I'm just going to have to see what the future holds for now. I really doubt Sega is going back to making a console system. Since my friends that work at Sony told me that the PS3 is going to be phased out in 2015 is unlikely to me and this socalled PS4 coming out in 2014 is just silly. But only time will tell.
@WarshipAngelus SEGA of Japan hasn't commented on SEGA console hardware in several years. In June, IMTECH reported that they had been contracted by SEGA to design an exclusive GPU for next gen Sega hardware game console. Mike Hayes flatly denied this and IMAGETEC suddenly backed down from the claim. Refusing to verifly it or debunk it. Also, PS4 will be designed with Larrabee or Knight's Corner HPC since the losses on PS3 have be staggering.
the ps1 is a little nintendo-like. well, maybe in the fact that nintendo helped design it. they decided to stick with cartridges for loading time and developed a 'stronger' system, the 64. then they sold their stake in the playstation to sony. so we wouldn't have the ps3 (which i'm typing this using one) if it wasn't for nintendo. exactly-they spent to much time on peripherals for the genesis rather than developing their next generation consoles;they lost percious time on R&D which Sony and NES capitalized on. Much of the strong third party support that was established with the advent of the genesis had evaporated between the time they created peripherals, developed the saturn and then the dreamcast.

yeah, it's sort of interesting when you think about it. Final Fantasy 7 was being developed for N64, but then Square switched to PS when they found the N64 wasn't using CDs.
FF7 pretty much capitulated the PS to first place, and because of SOA policy on RPG's they had nothing with which to compete. Makes you think eh?

I went to DVD shops and see ps2 showing how could they run dvd-movies and back than ps2 was the cheapest dvd in the world i think.

Dreamcast had better games at the time, better acessories, better online gameplay, web-browser (we could google etc.. like the x360 and ps3 now), better console design in my opinion, had better texture graphics and was more original. If they hadn't attacked, they might never have broken Nintendo's virtual monopoly in the US. Don't get me wrong, the commercials alone didn't help the Genesis, but Sega did step up to Nintendo and make them fight for every percent of market share in the 90's. They stuck with it too long when it was time to change tactics, but in the end, that's just a footnote. The best commercials in the world wouldn't have helped them escape from the legacy of the 32X, SCD, and Saturn

Wow. It's this kind of promotion, and the fact that Sony focused on the GAMES, that helped the PS1 become the first console to sell over 100 million worldwide, making it the second best in the world. I wanted a Saturn so much, but it was just too dang expensive! Needless to say, I loved my PlayStation for five years, am on my seventh year on my PS2 and will love my PS3 like a sister that I never had. Plus, I think there are plans to bring those old Saturn titles to Wii Virtual Console.

PS3 has been in development since 1999. Sony is trying to choose a HPC for PS4 from one of Intel's new HPC either "Larrabee" or "Knights Corner" If these don't begin production, PS4 may never see the light of day.

They have 2 machines in development a digital On-Live like device based off of RINGEDGE and a 3d Stereoscopic 512-bit console/arcade board codenamed "SEGADRIVE/NEPTUNE." Both machines are set to be unvelied next year. With the RINGEDGE possibly at CES.

@Carsonj13 They've been trying to get back in for quite sometime. In fact During 2009, they trademarked over 3 dozens hardware patents including,controllers,hard drives,USB drives,Wi-Fi. SEGA had plans for a console from its 2005 arcade machine LINDBERGH but scrapped it due to its high costs. They've been working on both hardware machines RINGEDGE and SEGADRIVE since 2007 and 2008. SEGA was also awarded exclusive rights to use IMAGETECH's Power VR 6 GPU which can produce Avatar-like graphics.

The President of Sega told some guys from a game Mag online that Sega doesn't plan to get back in the Hardware Market in the future and is happy making games for PS3. I'm just going to have to see what the future holds for now. I really doubt Sega is going back to making a console system. Since my friends that work at Sony told me that the PS3 is going to be phased out in 2015 is unlikely to me and this socalled PS4 coming out in 2014 is just silly. But only time will tell.

In June, IMTECH reported that they had been contracted by SEGA to design an exclusive GPU for next gen Sega hardware game console. Mike Hayes flatly denied this and IMAGETEC suddenly backed down from the claim. Refusing to verifly it or debunk it. Also, PS4 will be designed with Larrabee or Knight's Corner HPC since the losses on PS3 have be staggering.

the ps1 is a little nintendo-like. well, maybe in the fact that nintendo helped design it. they decided to stick with cartridges for loading time and developed a 'stronger' system, the 64. then they sold their stake in the playstation to sony. so we wouldn't have the ps3 (which i'm typing this using one) if it wasn't for nintendo. exactly-they spent to much time on peripherals for the genesis rather than developing their next generation consoles;they lost percious time on R&D which Sony and NES capitalized on. Much of the strong third party support that was established with the advent of the genesis had evaporated between the time they created peripherals, developed the saturn and then the dreamcast.
