I managed to get my hands on both the scope and 1.85 versions of this trailer, as a kind of "the audience is listening" trailer before screening DD prints. The problem is, as I'm a projectionist for a Film Studies course, we only get to screen a handful of Dolby Digital prints a year. Mono films sound so bad sometimes! (we use a pair of V5s too)
The V5 seems to be just about everywhere now. Manufactured to a low price; they're not such a bad machine. I suppose they do the job that's required in the multiplexes and not much more.
The racking handle has a 'juddery' feel, which is hardly surprising when you take a look at the mechanism behind it: Simple, cheap & (reasonably) efficient. The whole thing is a bit like a meccano set with hex bolts!
From the looks of it, it would appear the film was looped because the Dolby rain trailer is very short, so what was the test, sound all about then? What amplifiers Dolby CP and loudspeakers where you using. Thank you for sharing, and happy Christmas.
I've put new amplifiers in this cinema (QSC, CP650D, JBL), then I did the equalization. To test the sound I have the Dolby Jiffy test film plus 2 dolby's rain trailers I found, one in flat format and the other one cinemascope (I like the boom of sub woofer in this trailer). It's just for test.
I'm a cinema technician, I play the Dolby Jiffy test film with a couple of rain trailers (I really don't care if it's played on flat or scope, nobody is in the auditorium!) It's just for sound test ;)
