  • So Travis, are you using the pearl 3000s on this or pearl 2002s in this video?

  • This is sick!

  • Solid stuff man and dig the set up

  • djent away bro!!! \m/,

  • Mr. Orbin!

Is there any advice on composition of djent drumming? Like, as in anything special you focus on when composing drum pieces for a djent band? I'm hopefully going to be joining a rather djenty band, and I've never had to physically push myself beyond the limits of old school thrash metal, and I'm just wanting some basic advice for djent..

  • @W11BO1 First off, get really, really, really, really good.

  • Way to kick ass, my friend! You're a speed drummer. What snare head do you use?

  • awesome drumming :) I will never understand that drum set up though...

  • Very nice bro! :D super talented. You make me proud to be a drummer

  • You will EASILY become one of the greatest drummers who has ever played. I know it sounds stupid but as a drummer I try and emulate you more than anyone else! I will meet you one day! Oh yes, I will!

  • Oh my garsh travis! I cannot get over you! I don't see how any drummer, ever, could ever surpass you! People say alex rudinger but no way dude, you are so incredibly technical I can't even begin to say!

  • 0:55 ultimate orgasm

  • Its pleasure to watch you play :)

  • the three toms in the background disliked the video

  • shaft ninja what a great name, impressive drumming

  • Damn when I watch you it reminds me of Alex Rudinger. I'm not sure if you get that a lot

  • @Aborius Alex Rudinger took lessons under Travis. If you watch Travis' "Senjyu" song, Alex makes an appearance at the end =).

  • @romeo13x That's what I figured. They look almost identical! That's fuckin awesome :D

  • @Aborius I don't think he get that alot, probably watching alex makes you think about Travis

  • do you use triggers?

  • @silverpearlman pls leave.

  • @supniggaaaaaa i make a de joke

  • It's like an ambidextrous set up o.o

  • That ending cymbal run is sick! Creativity right there

  • fucked up. i cant even get the rythm.

  • @ScreamoRules96 nor spell it!

  • BoO? VoM? ;D

  • What type of Snare Head is that? Is that the hybrid?

  • @LethalDrummer777 i think it is a REMO black emperor x

I dont remember the exact name of the model but im pretty sure is that one kinda like the black suedes but emperor x

  • @danieljordison0793 Thanks!

  • I'd really like to see you do some vildhjarta covers if you have the time. Their song Traces is about as djent as it gets =D.

  • I really love watching you jam. I dropped drumming for about 3 yrs and I had 11 years under my belt. I recently got back into it and you are a excellent motivator and teacher. Also I noticed you have your left bass pedal away from your heel, never thought of that.

  • 0:51 HOLY CRAP T.O.

    Godly feet

  • That snare is orgasm inducing

  • what kind of snare head you using? and also what's the wood on your sticks?

  • My fucking brain. Ow.

  • fucking amazing

  • This song is so amazing, my djenitals are going all tingly :}

  • is that the evans hybrid snare? whatever it is it sounds sick and im getting one. let me know, thanks.

  • Nice man I liked it a lot:)

  • @BeADjent too bad she didn't teach you proper etiquette first

  • Great drumming by a fine djentleman

  • Alright people.

What makes Djent music Djent? I think some spotty 'too cool for school' mush thought he'd make up a word t noone had heard of to be cool.

Please enlighten me on the characteristics of Djent because i'm my view IT DOES NOT EXIST , IT IS NOT A GENRE!

  • @Harrysound term coined by Meshuggah, genre of progressive metal semi-popularized by Bulb. The ultra-compressed drop tune sound of guitar distortion can be characterized by the onomatopoeia "djent", though within the context of prog metal the genre is considered an unconventional use of polyrhythms and creative use of drum/melody syncopation so grooves land on the accents in a mind-crushingly brutal way. This is my understanding, somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

  • @Harrysound originally progressive metal never existed... it was just metal and some dude created different ways to play and eventually it became a genre. Djent is the sound created by the guitar using amps and mid boosted pickups. Djent is basically a more processed, technical sound. the specific sound the guitar makes is "dj dj dj djent" it's a very front pushing sound. and whether or not it's a genre in your eyes many people say it is... eventually it will be known as a genre as well

  • Djentleman

  • How do you EQ your snare?

  • what's the name of the song?

  • dirrtttyyyyyy

  • All the shells sound nice but I don't care for how the cymbals sound with this setup. I'm sure it's a recording thing. But damn this guy can play. This is the Travis drummer people should be listening to. Hint hint.

  • that was beautiful

  • What is your mic set up? It sounds nice.

  • I was slowly going into my What the Fuck was that face at 42 and then u played the IMPOSSIBLE lick at 56 and I died.....Im gonna watch it again

  • @BeADjent hahahahaha

  • 0:58 - 1:11 sexy ass polyrhythmic groove <3

  • @BeADjent lol looks like your mom never hugged you as a child haha

  • @BeADjent sir, calm the fuck down

  • this guy is a djentleman

  • where can i buy your music dude!!!!?

  • DUDE CAN YOU PLEASE DO A ROOKS COVER? THE SONG TRUTH!

  • With this kind of setup, I can't tell if he's a lefty, or maybe he's ambidextrous. And this is one of the most clever and creative drumming I've seen since Danny Carey, especially at 0:18 and 0:59.

  • i made a mess in my computer chair

  • is he that good that he can lead with his left foot? or is he left footed? or he's god?

  • @JayBoostToes

in his q&a video he says he leads with his left, but also leads with his right depending on the situation. he's right footed too i believe.

  • this guy is too good for his own good LOL

  • i love seeing the 3 rackmount toms in the naughty corner lol

  • @MrJDinop hehe

  • @MrJDinop we don't need no stinking rackmounts! :P

  • you never cease to amaze me man, seriously. especially your work ethic. i wish i had that kind of discipline. anyways, i have a question for you. when you are required to play fast double bass spurts, as is the case in this video, how do you have your bass drum head tuned? tight? loose? medium? if it's loose, how do you manage to achieve such speeds without it coming out all muddy and wattery? anyways, your answer would be greatly appreciated. cheers!

  • SO fucking sick.

  • The 3 people who disliked this should get a life.

  • Anyone know what kind of cymbal he is using in the middle of both the hi-hats?

  • @xlocustxxx It's a stack cymbal. I think at this point it was a 15" AAXtreme China and a B8 hihat top on top.

  • @xlocustxxx its a closed hi hat dude

  • why hasnt AAL and periphery kicked their drummers to the curb and begged for you yet

  • @breakinknucklesruler Travis Orbin was in periphery for like 4 years lol

  • @breakinknucklesruler um navene > travis orbin. im sorry that just facts. i dont usually make this a competition but you called out AAL

  • @Ri53WthTh3Fa11N i dont kow man, i dont know

  • @breakinknucklesruler me either man :) they're both good just different styles

  • @Ri53WthTh3Fa11N

meh, you made this comment so it prompted me to take a look at this drummer. He doesn't have a 1/4 of the technically flawless skill Travis exhibits when he plays. AAL's drummer is OK, but his skill level is not remotely close to Travis'. Sorry, I have to call out ignorance when I see it.

  • @breakinknucklesruler tbh halpern suits periphery much much more.

  • smells like steven slate drums :)

  • insane, gz on becoming a god of drums :)

  • 0_o

  • Hey. I noticed your left foot tends to sit angled, half off of the bass pedal. I'm guessing you do that on purpose, so I was wondering why?

  • Mmmmm

  • holy mother of fuck, calling this amazing is an understatement. Wow

  • M0:00RE

  • @ConceptsProject shut up mike :P

  • @LMChaser31 Simmer down Luc.

  • this amazing sound !!! whose song is this ? and culd u put drums over one of me n my friends originals?

  • The bass at 56 is insane!

  • Such a surprising music

  • The 3 people who dislike have no souls.

  • at 56 seconds, wtf was that with the double bass??

  • man , i love this djent style.been trying to perfect the art of playing it , must say though , it is pretty hard and one must be very focused as not to miss a single beat

  • lol, I can't even imagine how crazy those charts must be

  • classic

    @masterrese yo dog.. dog!

  • @WillLatourelle haha. yeah. i meant like your crash cymbal

  • This is unbelievably awesome but i just listened to some Cyclamen and its awful : (

  • you are fuking genius .

  • dawg travis set is the most unique and best souding set ever. i want his snare.

  • your china sounds like a cymbal bro.

  • @Burton910h I think it's because it is. ;)

    Thanks guys

  • his transition and tempo made me slightly wet in my girth stage

  • From 0:40 to 0:59 I think my brain melted a tad

  • @Owen6669 Agreed mate

  • haha that kind of confuses me and i dont really like it but its easy to see that hes a much better drummer than me so well done m8 :)

  • Awesome drumming, but I don't hear djent here.

  • Where can i get this song?

  • fuck me djently

  • I have a question..whats the relationship between cyclamen, periphery, and haunted shores? I'm kinda clueless...

  • "I managed to get a solid take in completion." O RLY?

  • I've yet to get this shift button out of my head, until then.....

  • 50k views and only 240 likes? Fuck is wrong with you people, this is awesome.

  • @slappywag88 I think many people have to run to the bathroom to keep from crapping themselves and don't have time to

  • this is so awesome

  • 0:41 heel toe 0.0

  • That sound of his snare makes me happy.

  • @DeadEyeSprout nice

  • fucking badass man! good job!

  • HAAHAHA you look like tomo from 30STM :D

  • @0209056891 looked that persons picture up and wooooooooow. I don't see that AT ALL.

  • @inimicalODDITY HAHAHAHHA I was tired xD

  • His cymbals sound like beautiful, crisp slices of crystal... lol

  • Is cymbals sound like beautiful, crisp slices of crystal... lol

  • this is fucking awesome....

  • what kinda cymbal is he/are using

  • @suerandy112 trx... awesome cymbals!

  • dude this guy makes the guy from meshuggah look like crap. sorry. This a favorite now thanks for the inspiration travis.

  • @goblinondrums I'm not gonna talk shit on Travis here.... But he does not make Tomas Haake look like crap. Tomas Haake is inhuman

  • @Olralph I'm talking about technicality. Travis definitely has a better poly rhythm approach. Well its just my opinion but i see more creative thinking in the scope of "over / 16's" and metronomic rhythms.

  • Such a tasty ending...and solid drumming throughout. You're fucking solid.

  • fuckin sounds great man!!!

  • You should audition for Paramore! lol

  • @carlsondrum92 ...No. lol:P

  • this is solid man! great job!

  • Can i say BEAST?

  • This is the most technical drumming iv ever seen, this was genuinely amazing I don't know how you do all the double base like tha!

  • I really like the sound of that snare and kick, have you added any EQ or compression to this? Also what kind of mics are you using for your Overheads?

  • i know its cliche but after hearing how well thought out, tech and precise all your (and musicians like your) sessions are, i look at mainstream money giants like gaga and bieber or what-have-you i get upset. its all elementary stuff. cant say its bc its catchy, this is definitely catchy too. i dont get it!

  • this kit sounds amazing!

  • I'm loving the 1080p, and the audio quality is incredible.

  • he stayed perfectly on time through the whole thing. wtf. thats impossible. haha

  • Is the setup influnced by Bill Bruford? :)

  • such a good song!

  • being a musician is never about money, its about doing what you truely love to do

  • what the fuck is djent?

  • @IMBACHABRI the future of metal

  • @odeiogentevelha Fuck yeaaa :) :)

  • @IMBACHABRI

a made up word to describe the guitar tones associated with progressive music

  • 3 people are fags

  • im trying hard to get this kind of style, polyrythmic stuff but its so fucking difficult! any advice guys?

  • @dannyss29 Yeah it's difficult to get into but once you understand the framework, learning becomes a hobby in on itself!

Check this out, try playing stacking easy rhythms on each other. Increasing the tempo as you get comfortable with each pattern.

  • @baerds yeah i think i will do that man thanks...i feel bad bcs i´ve been playing for like 7 years and im having problems with this! haha

  • What blows my mind almost as much as your skill Travis is that you can read and follow the material on sheet music! Brilliant drumming!

  • Sooooo fucking decent djentleness

  • That drum sound is the best I've heard ever. Wow. That bass drum.. And snare.. Everything.. Wow.

  • do u use demon drives?

  • 0:40 OMG what a fucking TIGHT breakdown.

    I like it alot.

  • who plays a kit with one floor tom and no racks? lol it's very odd. also, I never expected TRX to sound that good. they just seemed like they'd be one of those little companies that spent all their money on advertising in Drum magazine

  • @blackartsdrummer666 his kit is auctually 1 floor and 1 mounted tom

  • @blackartsdrummer666 Well, he might have just changed it for the fun of it. you see 3 toms in the back left corner.

  • what kind of snare head are you using?

  • @shuggahdrummin I know the question wasnt directed to me but its a Remo Black X

  • One person had their volume turned down

  • you wouldnt tell the difference between a drum machine and travis orbin

  • is he playing heel toe sometimes? like at :55

  • @way2manybeer yes sir

  • :50 Navene is an amazing drummer by why are you not in Animals? The timing of the fill in the third bar makes the simplicity of that fill so amazing.
