  • I clicked here to get away from Phil ! He explains things clearly, but for some reason, he just makes me uncomfortable.

  • Thanks! I have been swimming laps for years and have always wanted to learn how to do this stroke. I see many do it in the lanes but never have the courage to try for it looks very technical.

  • Boy, oh boy... look at his knees. They need to be glued together! This guy's a tool; don't listen to him.

  • this is a good video but he bends his knees just a little too much

  • irony in the end: "as simple as that" x)

  • i look stupid trying to learn this, grrr :b

  • butterfly is my best stroke are there swimming scholorships

  • "the arms are really quite important." oh really, sherlock?

  • he talks too much!!

  • no nice, dude... could've been beautiful to watch but not with that guy swimming...

  • He failed to mention how the kick comes from the hips, how much to kick, since too much kick would cause drag, how you have to arch your back to come up for a breath, how your shoulders have to come up when you take a breath, how you have to always stay in rhythm, how one kick is smaller than another. These are quite important in butterfly too.

  • knees bent too much.. your head should be streamlined with your head to prevent drag..

  • Idk...

  • Who needs a watch when you're doing butterfly stroke 1:15?

  • i HOPE PEOPL DONT WATCH THIS AND TRY TO DO WHAT HE DOES CAUSE HE IS DOING HORRILE.

  • U forgot to mention the fact that you need to bring your butt up to the surface of the water during the first phase of the butterfly stroke

  • Thank you. Helped me work out my technique.

  • hmmm does anyone else think he doesn't kick back up enough?

  • beautiful hand rake. where he learned to swim this?

  • I think he's gay! :/

  • @superkate97 What makes you say that?

  • See I dont have the strtch to put my feet up or come up to breath. You should have a video for how to get your feet and/or feet up Phillip. PLEASE!

u probably wont reply but...please do make a video on that. :(

  • I cant float or even swim so forget the butterfly for me. smh.

    I CANT SWIM

  • breaststroke is by far the most technical stroke...

  • " The butterfly stroke is one of the most beautiful to watch " pls tell me thats not gay..

  • @foxfallerz jajajajajajaja

  • This vid sucks

  • His technique isn't the best and this isn't a good video to learn fly off of. It's ok but if u really want to improve and be a lot better then look up michael phelps butterfly

  • Dude I started swimming a couple months ago and I learned butterfly very easily. It's not that technical. But, physically, dude it just kills you. And your kicking with your knees. The kick starts from the hip. But, otherwise, great video :)

  • Butterfly is not the most difficult stroke breaststroke is the most difficult and

technical , fly is the most physically taxing strokes.

  • why are you wearing a watch also?

  • the kick doesnt come from your knees phillip toriello it starts at your hips

  • Quit bashing on him. You guys can't probably swim better than him. That's why we searched this video.

  • ive been swimming(competitively) for 6 years and butterfly is the stroke that i do not like....i mean i can do it but im a small person so yeah....backstroke is my best stroke. ;D

  • im swimming my first IM and i can swim butterfly...this video did not help

  • Comment removed

  • @MRjAvellaneda it is a very simple stroke...

  • this guy is very gay O.o

  • jestes pro !!!

  • you are so an ashole you dont know the real technique about swimming you just can humillate your self with that pathethic swiming technique

  • actually, Breaststroke is the most technical, butterfly is physically the hardest.

  • why you say fire this man he is good swimmer

  • @carlynmae23 He is good swimmer like you is having good grammers.

  • its funny the reson they put the long plastic things is to divide each lane. so why swim thought the lanes? 0:16/0:25

  • do you kick right before you come up to breathe or while you are up breathing?

  • @xXgracexX333 you do two kicks, so it will be 1. kick while u r underwater 2. as ur sweeping the water to get up do a second kick 3. loop it

  • I thought they were suppose to have experts..?

  • Thumbs up if yur 14 or older and yur better thn this guy?!!

  • lol okay i actually saw it looking somewhat like a butterfly on another video but then again it just supports that this douche is a total moron who like to think he is a pro

  • Thank you.

  • they should just get some teenager from Junior Nationals or a state meet somewhere to teach this.

  • this is the most difficult way of swim and requires a lot of energy!

  • that's a horrible flutter kick..

  • your hands need to be closed

  • its easy to swim a butterfly . just ake a butter fly and swimm like it .

  • I tired to swim the butterfly. I also ran a turtle and walked a goldfish. All my pets died :(

  • Yeah amazingly simple....

  • This guys def. gay

  • i thought he was a really good swimmer? nooo way are you supposed to bend your knees that much

  • "form one giant leg" ..yeah..o.k

  • did expert village fire this guy?

  • @allbusiness22 no, i think live strong had him first. expert village copied it. thats why livestrong has more of his videos.

  • @allbusiness22 Why fire? I learn how to do the flip turn and do the butterfly stroke just watching this video This really taught me a lot about swimming

  • I have the impression that he bends his knees too much...

  • @clusterbeam more bend = more thrust.... i think.

  • @clusterbeam your supposed to bend your knees alot

  • @princesstutu34 Yes, I know, but you also must pay attention to the motion of the hips and torso...

  • @princesstutu34 Yes, I know, but you also must pay attention to the motion of the hips and torso...

  • @clusterbeam so uhmm i have a question cause we have this in our school if he bends his knees too much will he be slower or what?

  • @MonksteinSpunky If he bends his knees too much, yes, he will swim slower. The same will happen if he doesn't bend them at all. So, what I'm trying to say is that, like in almost every sport, you have to find a balance point. Nevertheless I must point out that the basic move in butterfly is the winding from the trunk (lower back). After that comes the bending of the knees. It will prove useless only the bending from knees if there is no mobility from the lower back.

  • @clusterbeam The point is that you must push your legs up with greater force than you push them down. He bends his leg good but he doesn't use force to bend, he is just "relaxing" from the previous stroke down. So that he didn't show how it is done for real. You have no time to relax.

  • @clusterbeam he is sopposed to...

  • head first..

  • 00:43 lol

  • @shaharudin1 why lol ?

  • very nice thanks

  • nice
