Let's clear this "mong" thing up. It is not short for mongol, instead it actually short for mongoloid, but as I understand it, it's the use in the UK is different. Mongoloid is a term originally used by racial scientists to describe the three major races of people, with Caucasoid and Negroid being the other 2. The term was then adopted by John Langdon Down, who used it to describe a (Down syndrome) condition where one prominent features was epicanthic folds, a feature common among Mongoloids.
