  • ancora un tenore che canta come baritono...

  • Magnifique voix. Très belle interprétation. Bravo!

  • He souds like a vocal student of 4th year. Is he singing french?

He is a baritone but sings as a tenor. Open and without class.

No wonder he is not sing anymore in important opera houses.

  • When does this aria take place in the opera?

  • Il chante faux! a côté de Massard et Blanc, il n'existe tout simplement pas!!

  • @vivegedda

En effet, ce n'est pas la plus belle interprétation que j'ai entendue.

Robert Massard interprétait cet air avec plus de justesse.

  • By the way, this is not a French translation of the aria, but the original language... The English translation exists though....

    Yours,

    D.

  • Wrong brother. The aria was composed for the Covent Garden premier of the opera. The baritone at CG would not sing the role because it was beneath him, or so he said. Gounod, to entice him composed the aria Even Bravest hearts may Swell.

The aria was a success and it was translated into French and made part of the role.

    Don't believe me; google it.

  • Well, thank you! I learned something new today!

    Yours,

    D.

  • You are very welcome. I always wanted to be a baritone, so iIcould show up to the Met competition and sing the aria in English and watch the judges shit a brick over that one (the rules are very strict on arias being in the original language)

  • @tenore23

Well - done! so this was Gounod's response to someone being disparaging and persnickety. Did he frame a portrait?

  • Well, this was one of those times when being a bitch worked out for the best. This is one of the most beautiful arias in the baritone rep, so more power and thanks to that baritone, whose name excapes me.

  • @tenore23 Nicely set up. An opera trivia gotcha. You might try "Ozean du Ungerhuer" for your next trick. It too was originally written in English.

  • He sounds like a refined Alagna.
