  • @hollytoo As I've been shooting the last seven days, a steady stream of people have come to take pictures (very little video, for some reason) of this building. Funny thing; I can almost tell the former residents from the photojournalists or the college students working on a project. There's a -- the best word I can think of is "solemnity" -- in the former residents that isn't there in the others. You can tell it's not just a building for them; it was a place they actually lived.

  • I just heard about this on the news the other night. Neat video

  • 3:10 was that the county jail buss ?

  • @JESTER588 The bus is owned by a non-profit organization called Chicago Youth Programs, based on the south side. It grew out of the Cabrini Youth Program, founded in 1984 by some Northwestern Univ. medical students, and expanded to include Washington Park and Uptown Youth Programs. Not sure how many low-income youth live in the mixed-income housing that replaced Cabrini, but it's great that CYP still serves them.

  • @artistmac thanks for the info

  • For public housing I think it would be a good idea to use all of the abandoned single family (boarded up house) rather than apartment buildings.

  • @IBMeddling The status of the original Cabrini rowhouses is up in the air. They were always the nicest part of Cabrini-Green and still are, but it seems the CHA wants to obliterate every trace of public housing on the near north side. Ironic, since the south side's Bridgeport Homes and Wentworth Gardens are rowhouses, and they rehabbed those.

  • @artistmac I know i read an article about the last hold out to leave the building (Annie Ricks ) was offered a place at the rehabed row houses, however, CHA rehabed some of the homes but not all of them. I feel that CHA will not honor their agreement.
