  • hi, quick question, what if im working with two too three hours movies files what are my option in creating a high quality video? how can i use the compressor to my advange rather then making two seperate dvd's to make my movies? i just want to fit a two-three movie into one single dvd. thanks in advance.

  • Thanks!!! just what I need it.... very helpful...

  • I need help! After I'm done choosing the setting on Compressor, I can't submit it! and of course, it wont go true. What am I doing wrong?

  • thanks it helps

  • Thanks for the tutorial ,I have a 2+ hour project. the flow is a bit confusing from FCP to Compressor to DVD Studio Pro. It's quite a journey to just author a DVD and the process is not intuitive AT ALL.

  • After presing "submit" mothing happens, The progress bar remains blank and the word "waiting" shows a the end of the file name in the historial window. Am I doing something wrong? please help on this matter.

  • Thank you very much, man!

  • thank you soo much you are the man!!

but do you create any kind of 3d motion and stuff?

  • thanks very much!

but i'm still stuck... when I submit i can not go any further, cause the in the next window (name: cluster: priority) the option submit is not enable. The only difference i can see from your settings is where it says Cluster, mine says None, i've tried to change that to My computer as you have but it just give me 2 options (none, other) when i put other it says : host name, ip address... and I have no idea what to do next.

could you help me... thanks a lot....

  • Yeah it sounds like you are exporting it from Final Cut into Compressor as a PAL video. The change MUST take place BEFORE you send it out of Final Cut. Check your clip settings and make sure everything is NTSC 29.95 frames per second (fps) and NOT PAL 24.95 fps. DVD Studio doesn't like PAL stuff. The audio will go through fine...its the video portion that it hates. Its a different frame rate and all. So change the sequence settings to NTSC, 29,95 fps, and resolution 720x480. This will work

  • Ho long would File of 30minutes take to compress in HD?

  • Hi i got a quick question do you have to compress every movie before taking into DVD STUDIO PRO?

  • Hi - I love this video thanks - it makes things very clear ( the credits and introductions are a bit long). I have followed the excellent instructions, am using a top-of-the-range Mac pro and am still very disappointed that teh output from compresor is so poor compared to the raw .mov clip (made by FCP in Log and Transfer). The quality difference is VAST even on Blu Ray with all teh quality settigns turned up to max. No wonder my SD DVDs look so poor. I can't quite believe it

  • I am new to FCP what doeS compressor actually do for your movie?

  • Good tut, but it would be better if it was higher definition. =P

  • why i can't see my batch window, once i click in FC Pro export>using compresor then compresor opens but no batch window, why is that any help? I already check window tab where you select inspector, preview, settings or history windows but it don't even show batch window

  • very useful, but if exporting from FCP in the

'highest quality' , do you export straight to compressor or export as a high quality QT file and then import into compressor?

  • thanks much, dude

  • I burned using a DVD-R. It played on my iMac and macbook, but NOT on the regular DVD players-- and I tried on many DVD players. Has anyone else encounter this problem? Please help. Thanks!

  • i have the same problem, i need help, does anyone know hoy to fix this?

  • I'm sure you have already checked this, but I know when I was having problems like that with another editing software, I found that I was burning using PAL (it was set to that for some reason). So, I had to switch to NTSC. I'm sure you are a lot smarter than me and checked that already. I didn't really know anything about the formats at that time.

  • How do i switch to NTCS file? only my sound came threw dvd studio pro but, not my video. its on PAL or its not going threw dvd studio pro b/c something w NTSC problem. It pops w bullshit & don't no how to fix it. i need to know by today or tom. please!! ty! if u know the answer.

  • I don't know of anything in DVD Studio that will do that. The only thing I do know of is in the build/burn section on top that will let you switch between region codes. The NTSC/PAL thing is probably done in FCP. What kind of message are you getting? Are you able to preview the video and audio in DVD Studio when you hit "preview?"

  • Very helpful, thank you.

  • thats very useful n easy to follow, thank you so much

  • Very good! Thanks!

  • Incredible! a MASSIVE help, thank you so much, i just followed ur tutorial and the encoding is far better with compressor and works a dream in DVD studio pro. Thanks again!

  • awesome tutorial. thank you very much

  • extremely helpful! thanks for taking the time!

  • Great tutorial, dude.

  • Amazing tutorial :) So helpful, thank you!

  • very cool and informative. thank you. You're a good instructor

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • Thanks for the video.

I really want to export my SD video (16x9) in the best quality possible, before putting it into Compressor like you did. I have tried to do this with about a 60 minute home movie and exported using FCE with No compression. This generates a 100+ GB file which is much larger than the orignal scratch media. Why so big?

I tried using the QT export (without the conversion method), but this turns the file into a 1 GB file and I am concerned that I am losing quality.

  • well done. really helped!/NYC

  • Great Tutorial, just what i've been looking for!

  • Hi Evan!

Can you tell me which export type to use from Final Cut Pro?

Can I use QuickTime Movie? or QuickTime Conversion? I tried to use QT Conversion last night and i did not get a .Mov file? It also took over 5 hours to encode a 31 minute HD Video. Any help you can give will be really appreciated.

    Yours Francis

  • Hi Francis,

Typically I use the QuickTime Movie export settings. There you can simply select the format you want to export the video as and away you go. QuickTime Conversion is more for exporting to different types of media, such as AVI, Still Images, FLV, DivX, etc. So I would recommend using QuickTime Movie most of the time.

    Evan Thies
