  • Level 42 Is awesome, been listening to then for 25

  • I love this track and is one of my favourite Level 42 songs.

I just can't help seeing the similarity in the face between Mark King in this Video and Leonard Rossiter (Mr Rigsby) from Rising Damp. Check time position 2:28 onwards.

  • Not Sappy. Very painful song.

  • Gawd even after all these years, this song still kills. I must say, I avoid listening to this song because of the subject, breaking up, its such a perfect breakup song. The musical arrangement, Mark's clear, distinctive voice and the harmonies stays with me for months.

At the risk of sounding sappy, it all drives home the pain.

  • me too - i like the keyboard players voice ,

  • god all the men i wasted precious time on

  • Kiddies take note of her sage lament once spent it's gone forever invest wisely.

  • @dymphna1

Hey I'm a guy but I can relate big time, it's called being a fool for love we've all been there.

  • This is great but the full version on the World machine album is best love this video.

  • the lyrics are so precise, is not just repeating over and over the same two parts like some do now. They are great musicians too!!.

    I love L42.

    :)

  • some people kill for less , yet i,d still die for you gladly. cutting words but so true.

  • if you look or "hear" hard enough you still find good music in between all the crap.

  • i miss it soooooooo much.... lovid....

  • Reading the comments I can tell a lot of English folks are still into Level 42. I grew up with them in Halifax and here, 25 years later in California, their music still sounds amazing. Such an underrated group. Genius. Glad I got to see them a couple of times here. They still tour?

  • awesome song, enuf said.....

  • As with the single, the video follows on from Something About You. Timeless and elegant pop. Love the piano coda at the end of the album version.

  • I still love their music.

  • I watch you walk away with an easy grace....

  • 1 of mine also :)

  • This is my fave level 42 song

  • So my favorite of all times....!!!

  • one of my favorite songs...it helped me get through a tough time - 'love is a ship we all hope to steer through troubled times...cross an ocean of tears'

  • Most of todays 'artists' wouldnt be fit to lick the shoes of people like this in my opinion. At best, all we have today is good karoake singers, chosen for looks and marketability over talent.

  • Got to agree with you there,i listen to some of the dross on the radio now and think "who buys this crap ! "

  • Our society is getting dumbed down. At the rate we're going, we'll be giving awards to people who record the sounds of shit dropping into a toilet, and then flushing it.

  • The truest comment I've heard in a long time! Music is dead now - very sad indeed.

  • such a haunting song , gorgeous words and great music .....wot more can u ask for ?

  • ...some people kill for less....

  • I know it's a cliche but how time flies...wow

What memories. Thats the power of music. Graet song

  • Whenever I hear music like this, I get both happy and sad. These songs charted 25 years ago, and the top 100 any given week was full of talented artists. There's talent now, to be sure, but you have to search hard and it's almost as if the record companies don't promote the real talent they have under contract. It gets boring to repeat that the 80's were great, but if they were is because MTV and VH1 and record companies put their money where their mouths were ( past tense)

  • Who? My ex? hahaha

  • Yet I'd still die for you gladly...magnificant lyric and song.

  • What a follow up song/video to There's Something About You. To a very special women at a very special time in my life x

  • i always loved these guys...remember listening to this many times in the late 80;s on my sony walkman top deck of the cruiseship suntaning somewhere in the caribbean...lots of good times (hard work too), drunken nights, girls, was 24. we used to throw deck chairs overboard at night sometimes.lol. we did so much you could not get away with nowadays in any job...times have changed.

  • great comment, reminds me also of good times

  • Great song..Always reminds me of an ex girlfriend-------she was the spitting image of Mark King...hehehehe

  • Yeah....very good song......one of the best of 80's

  • great tune, long live the level

  • Amazing song, but is that mark king in a hat in the beggining..?

  • yes

  • I thought it was Suggs!!!

  • Yup, sure is...Mr King himself..this vid is a sort of continuation of "Something About You" vid..notice him in that costume thruout the vid....

  • Is this sort of a "prequel" to Something About You? Everyone in the band looks younger in Leaving Me Now, in my opinion. Just an observation! :)

But no matter - these are 2 of my faves!

  • I have never seen an attractive clown before this video. It is hard to laugh at a clown that cute...

  • great group very talented guys not like funking tynchy cheap stryder

  • an excellent song from the mid 80s.

  • Love the piano on this one. I could hear this song all day.

  • Very unique band and very underrated too.

    They're all excellent musicians.

  • Love this song... it's exactly how I feel at the moment :(

  • i like this song, i know about it in my cell sony ericsson w810 in there the name is backseat tune...

  • Yep they put Mikes piano solo in a bunch of sonys for some reason

  • These are awesome. They still tour regularly and they are absolutely brilliant. Go and see them if ever you get the chance, you won't be disappointed!

  • I love this song. One of their best!

  • Wow Mark King without base, very rare! :)

  • Great song!

  • Love this song, i wish it could be on the charts for all to hear again.

  • WOW!!! Love style :-)

  • grew up in NZ listenin to these fullas, love there music, first time in years i'v listened to em and i still know all the words. man these fulaz primo!!

  • probably the most under-rated, band maybe ever! although some are poppy, musically, some of their songs are close to genius

  • firefly youre sweet, over here im trying to put it together so i can climb up another wall of time

  • something about you has always been my favorite song even all the way back when i was a kid. a band like this is just the perfect example of how the 80s will never be duplicated musicly. if i had the chance to go back and do it again i would give up anything to do so!!!!(execpt my wife and son)

  • I agree!! The music back then collectively is MUCH better than the music of today! It's like back then you actually had to have *gasp* TALENT!! and Level 42 had it in spades!! :)

  • Another Awesome band that was underrated. I like Level 42.

  • an absolute 80's gem. It's gotten lost in the cracks of time. Still great.

  • BELLISSIMA.................

  • 1985 - my first heartbreak. This song was the theme.

  • According to the wikipedia page, the original track length was 5:03.

  • Is the album version the "long version"? i am desperate to find the long version, can anyone help me pls?

  • Yes, to the best of my knowledge, the long version is on the LP "World Machine". It's a longer intro, stripped down as far as the production is concerned, and really highlights the piano. It's beautiful!

  • this is the US single version

  • This is not the long version, taken from the "World Machine" album, but the 7" single version. I also have the 10" version, and don't remember if is the same of the album.

  • Also would like a remix of this one. Anyone out there in the music field give some of these feedbacks attention, we have good taste in music. We need them back on the charts. Hello Mark, are you reading this?

  • Haunting song, just heard it this week and I constantly have it in my mind. Beautiful song and equally beautiful lyrics. This song needs to be resurrected for today's charts. Definitely worth a second time around for new listeners. A Gem.

  • I love this one, and Something About You as well. I guess I aspire to be the type of woman to incite such angst and passion....

  • ..." a midnight sea that swells in your eyes, takes just one look to know I'm still mezmorized"

one of the true romantic, insightful lines ever written. great to still love this song this band more than 20 years later.

  • This was my marriage, my fault babe, miss u

  • Some people Kill for Less.

  • A beautiful, melancholy tune. A sad place to be, but well expressed for those of us who've been there...

  • wow, what a beautiful song. I like the album version best because they fade everything out except the piano at the end.

  • I SOOOO love the fade out to the piano at the end on the album version. I wish it were part of this vid.

  • ...one of the best song of ever...sure in '80...this song means my best years...my first loves...my first pain...my first fantastic emotion! just 17een!!!

great! give me back my 80

  • What a song... The band are true legends....

  • Good song !

  • What a band, what a track.. We'll never see the likes of Level 42 now, kids nowadays dont have the patience to learn how to play like these guys, simply brilliant!

  • how true! no time put into anything apart from partying!

  • If I only had a time machine to undo the damage . . .

  • yea i know what you mean

  • i love mike's piano part at the end of the song on the album version. can someone please upload "people" from "standing in the light"?!

  • Great tune , they don't make them like they used to do they

  • A classic-Mark sometimes dedicated this to me in Brum-Amazing guy!!!

  • its a good one for sure

  • Favorite 42 song. Hands down.

  • magnifique...

  • Great song. Nice to have Freddie Mercury in it as well.

  • Awesome.

  • Love this song. But I miss the original track which included the piano solo at the very end...so cool and haunting..

  • the keyboardist looks really good at 2:35

  • They really made the New Wave sound come to life in slightly different way.

    Great band.

  • why does mark look like jason bourne

  • I suppose they filmed this video the same day "Something About You" was filmed? I figure this one was done afterwards, so mark could stay in the clown makeup?

  • This is one band that should get back together... so much better then the old crap from take that etc

  • does everyone agree that this song has great lyrics? its got to be one of the best love songs hasen`t it

  • Phil gould has a gretch kit?

  • Back to a time when music was great and didnt involve reality TV

  • So true, less talent now, just fly by night pop stars, glad to see level's still giging like a lot of other good bands from the 80's

  • the clown is back!

  • listening to those words still makes me cry :(

what a work of art not a song... smile

  • Wow!!! The perfect breakup song, Mark's voice is perfect for it.
