Hey thanks for this download, one of the greatest songs ever written, when pretty much all of the rockers have faded Smiths & Moz will remain. His band did great with a very difficukt smiths song to do well, and what a true vocal, delivered with due seriousness, unique!
I would to say something for everyone who likes Morrissey and is younger than 20: I'm 12 and I absolutely adore him. You probably think I'm too young to understand his lyrics, but Morrissey himself even said once that intelligence and comprehension shouldn't be judged by age.
This song is deticated to those ungrateful posers who outgrow music and follow a trend. Music is not a fab. Those old songs were our friends that saved our life! This is the song . It misses you! Remember your roots!
Bloody hell he sings this well, the band can't quite do the artful guitars like Johnny Marr, but they're close, and what a profound piece of music, there aren't too many.
Wonderful performance by Morrissey, but I must say that his backing band were exemplary as well. And while I do prefer the Smiths version, the key-change suits the song well.
This is a GREAT performance by the band. The drummer drives the song forward. Morrissey's voice is strong ang his range good. The guitar rumbles on constantly providing energy. Wonderful stuff.
that's bullshit, he's had Alan White and Boz forever and they are awesome! I've seen them live many, many times and was always pleased..it's all about Morrissey anyway!
Oh you're right about that, and I haven't seen him live so I really can't judge them. It's just the intro for this song originally was a lot more fluent, here it sounds picked.
I agree with "lolpsy" on the guitar, and he does have point. I am a big Morrissey fan, but "Rubber Ring" was a song before the White/Boz era. It's the Smiths! With that said, there is big difference from this, and what it used to be. The big factor....Johnny Marr.
Impressive! Incredibly difficult song to do live. Perhaps one of the most difficult songs in The Smith's catalog that still works without the strings (I never thought it would). He could have done the mellotron thing. I'm glad he chose not to. David Bowie likes to run tracks something I think is fake others also do like the Verve. Morrissey is incredible live. I've seen him a few times and he is Amazing. He's one of the very few that at times sounds even better live than in the studio.
It's not even close! The best thing about The Smiths is how incredibly tight they were as a working band. 100.000 times tighter than The Beatles or Stones. Johnny was like 23 or 24 when he wrote Rubber Ring, Boz and Alain are almost 50!!!
It was at an art installation, in a museum, of Smiths songs done karaoke from Indonesians that I really made the connnection with this song. Songs about memory are their own genre. Love it. Big thanks to Morrissey's genius!!!
This song was a showcase for the band and an absolute tour de force lyrically. When this song came out most of us had already been affected by the songs and the words. So, taken in that context, this song was really a tender plea from a good friend that you at least remember them kindly.
20 years later, the song somehow seems ironic. As if, he is still around to see whether we do or not.
I agree with you. I always found it so interesting that Morrissey wrote the song when he did. This was written and recorded when the Smiths were huge. Only Morrissey had the sense to realize that all good things come to an end. Most silly bands assume that once they hit it big, they will be big forever. Morrissey is such an intelligent realist to know that things change in life as we get older. If he wrote this song now, I don't know if it would have meant as much.

I enjoy singing The Smiths' songs as much as I enjoy listening to them. Unfortunately my voice isn't as flawless and beautiful as Morrissey's.. :-(

I'd love Morrissey more if his guitarists didn't sound so stiff. There's no feeling, it's like he read the tabs off the internet.

Yes, you are totally right..I go to see Modest Mouse mostly just to see Marr play...no worries, we all love it...
Rubber Ring is one of my favorite Smith songs...it will never sound like that again..cause they'll never be together again. bummer.

Also...the best thing ever put on wax was the fade out at the end of RR and then into the beginning of Asleep on TBWTTIHS 12". Genius.
