  • @mangocomputer So if I were to create an image, I would be able to format my pc with this disk?

  • If you have problems 'backing up' a hard drive while booted into Windows, or didn't understand what I was talking about in the ''Post Below''

Search YouTube for ''Acronis Bootable Rescue Media Builder''

  • [Next Post]= So after trying unlockers/CMD type Deleting programs/CHKDSK/Safe Mode/Root Kit checkers/ect. with no avail: I finally came across a post with another Acronis user that figured out how-to-delete it. Transfer all 'non-problematic' files to another folder/drive. Boot from Acronis Boot Cd = Not into Windows! Go through back^ process until u get to the part where it asks where to save...highlight the problematic Folder & (on top of page) it says New Folder & Delete. Choose Delete

  • Also be advised that older versions of Acronis (or so the company says they fixed this issue in newer versions above 9...which is false cause this happened to me on ver. 11) is famous for file problems with restoring certain file types in Windows OS. Happened to me the other day. The file was a system file & when I tried to delete the folder, windows stated: "file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". After a lot of time spent searching the net, I finally found the answer [Read Next Post]

  • Great Tutorial...Just to help everyone out: Talked to my friend (a PC Tec), & he advised once you do a verification, it's always good to also Restore a Folder. Doesn't have to be a large one...if it Restores the folder then your good. Sometimes Acronis verifies the image, then for some reason, when you try to restore a folder -or everything- Acronis runs into some kind of issue and can't do it. So it's always good to double check, just to be on the safe side.

  • Ok i have that file backup, and what i must do now ? My pc doesnt faster

  • @modelistas1 Not faster. sry ;D

  • Raises Hand!

  • 2 days remaining??

  • Thank you very much for your time recording and uploading :) God bless you.

  • this program dosent work for me

  • So You can completely restore your computer and ALL of its files to the date the disk was burned??? Completely? A 320Gb drive compressed onto a 4.37GB DVD???

  • @BroknSircut you're not being logical. if you're trying to backup a 320gb then you're going to need 320gb storage.

  • @benblitzkrieg Stumps me then that you can fully restore with just a dvd

  • @BroknSircut the one with just the dvd restore will only restore your OS, only the important file. Hence the small in size, hope this helps. BTW, if you're trying to make a FULL backup, use windows backup, I just did it and it actually backs up my partition as well.

  • If I see the comments on amazon ati do not even work on vanilla system. Be warned.

  • i saw some laptop that has a image backup on the same hard drive but you can access when booting the machine. but i forgot what software it is, can you help me??

  • have a new m6500 64bit win7, twin 500GB hard drives, 3.0 usb ports. with my 2-2TB 3.0 free-agents plunged in separately, unable to see free-agents when plugged into the 3.0 usb ports. however if switched to the 2.0 usb ports, i can see the free-agent drive. Humm?

  • it is a life saver and money saver

  • to me is the best utilities

  • can u. speak. faster

  • do you work for the post office??? you talk as though you are in a coma.

  • Thanks for this tutorial, it was really helpful.

  • i been reading and don't see anyone has asked if they have them i'm sorry i'm asking it again. but can u tell me in this program is any better then using the default program that comes with windows 7 to backup your data.?

  • how can i upgrade my os and keep all my installed programs and be able to use them on my new os?

  • how do i remove this program...! dammm

  • My harddrive crashed, i'm making a back up using acronis in hope it opens. (i basically have pictures and few documents how can i open these files?)

  • Can this be used to backup 2000 and 2003 server?

  • @Bear9264 Yes.

  • Very helpful.

  • Hi, I have a question...

If I take backup on XP, can I use that backup to recover it on Windows 7 machine? If not, do you know any fast way to downgrade many windows 7 machines to XP?

  • 1 more question. How to image backup and restore 2 HDD RAID 0 with Acronis ?

  • is this the fastest backup software????? How about Macrium Reflect software???

  • hi, my current PC with Window XP and some trading applications, can i back up with Acronis and restore all applications and data except Window XP into my new notebook with Window 7 ? Please advice :) tq

  • @MrAvatar9999

Can't do that. When you make an image with Acronis and go to move it to another it is pretty much all or nothing (there are limited exceptions, but not applicable in your case). If you installed the image on your new notebook you would installing the Windows XP from your old computer.

  • @mangocomputer I guess it's not enough that the target machine (notebook) have Windows XP installed. It should have almost the same hardware (motherboard, soundcard, graphics card etc) because the disk image also contains system configuration and drivers.

  • Can you backup to DVD-R DL discs with Acronis???

  • You didn't say anything about the file size - one of the most vitally important things seeing as storage is an issue with most people.

  • My laptop's 40gb hard drive is failing and almost full. I've bought a new drive and enclosure and want to completely clone the current hard drive onto the new one, then insert the new one into the laptop. Can True Image do this? Why only copy the C drive? I want everything to be as it is at present, including the D plus drives. Thinking of spending hard-earned cash on this!

  • @muskndusk True Image can make an image file of an entire disk. So you image you current disk (choosing the entire disk and being sure to select all partitions on the disk). That way even if your drive is divided into partitions and the OS sees it as multiple drives, when you put the new drive in your laptop and restore the image file all will be as it was on the old disk.

  • @femfeedr Thanks. I bought the Acronis True Image, took my laptop to a techie friend and we managed to clone the 40gb hard drive to a 320gb. I was amazed at how quickly it worked. The process took about 20 minutes. Impressed.

  • @muskndusk Glad you liked it. I have used that program for years and it has never failed me and has just gotten better and better with each new version. I used to use Norton Ghost for my cloning needs but when Acronis hit the market it blew all the competition away.

  • i use to install softwares daily so do i hv to do this process of backup everyday and spend hrs of time on it...

plz add a video on how to restore with Acronis.

  • can you use it to transfer a operating system onto a new harddrive in another computer

  • can u burn the image to a cd , and then boot from it and restore it without booting into windows?

  • Be sure to check your backup, make sure it will restore. I've had Acronis "restore" the file names, but the files were empty.

  • I need help

say I that I did all the baking up to and external hard drive and then my internal hard drive mess up and I am forced to delete everything

how would I clone the original HD from the clone that I made?

  • It could vary depending upon the version of Acronis you used but basically

    Plug in external Drive

Boot computer with the Acronis CD

    Follow Prompts to open Acronis

    Click Recovery

    Take your time. read Carefully

    Follow the prompts

Basically you will be asked where the backup (tib files) are and where you want to recover them to.

The process is simple but if unsure ask a pro of computer geek friend for help.

If you don't have orig CD. Install Acronis on another PC and create rescue media

  • thankyou..

  • bro, is it possible to clone with different specification?. if it is, how? pleas help me. tnx!

  • Hi Budie

I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you ask about different specifications.

Could you give a little more info.

  • i tried to clone my current drive then i put the new cloned drive into other pc with different chipset and processor. my problem is when i turn it on, the display turns blue and restart. what you think is the solution for this?

tnx! i will use it to my project in school. "Cloning with Different Specs"

  • thankyou..Mick UK

  • I like Marcium Reflect better than the new Acronis...the new acronis is real twitchy...also you should copy your drivers and back them up to an external media because drivers do not 'always' go back in or back in as they should...driver magician is a good tool for this...good video though :)

  • will it clone my 32 bit windows vista O S ??

  • it should

  • Yeah Ive tried cloning another harddrive on my pc but it didnt work Ill try it again because of the disk size was different on the backup and on my harddrive.

  • un less the format is different a hard drive is a hard drive they are all equaly transferable from one to another

  • hey can this methed still work if i make the clone image on my pc and i go out and buy a new motherbord and a new harddrive can i restor it from the new motherbord and new harddrive????????????????????????????????????

  • VMWARE !!!

  • only if it is the exact same mother board other wise the operating system will have conflicts

EX. (you had an intell processor now it is an AMD not going to work or have lots of problems)

  • after making the backup. how do you reinstall the image onto the computer?

  • You re-install Acronis then choose "Restore", if I'm correct.

  • after you clone to a new hard drive

what do you have to do to make your computer function with it

I get the blue screen of death

In the set up under hard drive it still reads my old hard drive

there must be some significant step I need to do but I have no idea

  • do you know how to clone just the system partition of a hard drive and not the whole drive? or even better, do you know how to update a cloned system partition? Thx In Advance For Any Info If You Bother To Take the Time to respond

  • what recorder

  • Thanks for your quick reply mangocomputer,

I guess that for easy access through all of my directories I should do as you suggest and simply copy-paste my data to the external drive.

The one drawback with this method is as you say the time it will take.

Acronis is clearly a great piece of software for the task it has been designed for -making incremental backups of your precious data.

  • I have heard that Linux OSs such as Ubuntu are far quicker at copying and pasting files.

Have you got any experience with Linux or Ubuntu?

[I have been considering installing a Linux distro called Ubuntu Studio on my rebuilt PC -because it is aimed at multimedia users and I write music]

  • Hi Julian,

If you are interested in just copying your data, copying and pasting to the external hard drive should prove adequate. I have been doing it for years and it has never created a problem for me. Of course this only works with files created by you and not program files.

When you have Acronis installed on the computer you can open the tib files, via the acronis progam. You might want to see the Acronis documentation that comes with the program.

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks for your video tutorial.

I have recently bought a 500Gb external drive to copy my existing drives over to. This is so I can re-format them and re-install an OS on two of them.

Are there any pieces of software out there that can accurately back up your data to another drive whilst leaving your folders browsable by windows?

  • As you know, when you back up using Acronis you get a .tib file as your result. If you try exploring this file your folders are not recognised as openable by Windows.

Of course I could just copy paste using Windows itself, but I am led to believe that this would likely be inaccurate, and the chance of non-working data would be quite high.

Especially when you are talking hundreds of Gb.

    Cheers,

    Julian

  • Hi Julian,

I understand the new Acronis True Image 2009 will allow you to back up using ZIP files rather than TIB. This could be the answer. You could find out more on the Acronis Website.

If you are just copying data files you can just copy the files from their original location to the new drive I would drag the files using the right mouse button and select copy rather than move.

But Using Acronis (back up data) would be quicker, but than back to the TIB or ZIP Question.

  • how do i save my acronis backup on a cd? any one can help

  • yes you can, but i can´t figure how to make that backup cd to boot out, since the actual acronis rescue disc can do it.

  • go to "set the options manually" and then go the "splitting" option and choose the size of the disc you want the backup to be saved in.

  • Cheers!

    Thanks for the rapid reply!

Will remember about the validation bit...too

  • -CONT-

    in short to avoid confusions

    backing up c: drive

by booting from c: drive (in windows) OR booting from the acronis bootable cd?

whats your opinion on this matter? thanks

  • Hi Calvtan,

Either one will work. Sometimes it seems quicker doing it via windows, but I agree with you. I think it is better using the bootable media.

Make sure you can boot from a CD.

Also. If you are backing up to an external drive it would be a good idea to plug in the drive while you are in Windows (seems to recgonize better) then create a folder on your external drive for the backup.

Then insert your bootable CD and restart.

It is a good idea to Validate the image.

  • Hello mangocomputer,

I am planning to make a full backup image of my laptop hard drive...

i installed the acronis and done the bootable media cd...

should i do the backup using:

    a) after booting to current windows, running acronis from there to do backup? -OR-

    b) by running the acronis bootable media cd, which boot into some special page of acronis and backup from there?

opt (b) seem like a cleaner backup to me as we are not running anything from the c: drive i am planning to backup.

    -CONT-

  • The best thing to do is to create your Acronis Image when your computer is operating at its best. Then if you have a problem your restore will bring you back to when your computer was at its best. Of course you will loose anything that you created after the backup.

  • hi i made everything like you and then i reinstalled windows xp then i connected my external hard disk and when i go to my computer>external hard drive4 i got lots of file saved .tib how can i open them plsplspls help thanks

  • Hi, hello

I sent you an email asking for some more detail.

The basic answer is that you have to reinstall Acronis or create an Acronis emergency disk or another computer. Read the email I sent you. If I have more detail I can give you a better answer

  • Hi,

I sent you an email asking for some more info. The basic answer is you have to either load Acronis on you computer or create an Acronis Rescue CD on another machine with Acronis.

But this may not accomplish what you are trying to do. Read the email I sent, and reply to it.

    Cheers

    Larry

  • is this software free.or would i have to pay?

  • it's free but you'd be able to find some other means of obtaining the program...COUGHtorrentCOUGH

  • hey by backing up does it saves you favorites on your internert exploer??????????

  • dude it backs up EVERYTHING its like it takes a complete clone of your computer so if it fails u get blue screen of death u put the image in its like it never happened all ur settings will be the same way u left

  • Great video, thxs a ton, i see you have Call of Duty on your desktop. Mick[UK]

  • Do yourself a big favor and make one image of a fresh install of windows and all your most used software..Then test that image to make sure it works..Then you know you have a working image to fall back on should your weekly or monthly images get corrupted or fail(Believe they do not often but they do)

  • Nice man...you explained it just as i would. But without the stuttering when you were saying incremental backup. :) Just kidding. Good Job though!!!

  • What about restoring the disk from that image you've just created? You totally forgot to show that.

  • Thank you very much. I have Adobe Master Suite

/xp pro os and used the trial home acronis program to back up to external hd. Time was 23 hours 1t gb to 1 t gb. Will I be able to take the cloned hard drive and swap it with the drive in my computer and will it boot ? thanks for any help. Reinstalling adobe master suite is enormously time consuming.acronis is the only clone program that made the back up. thanks.

  • Is this vista 64 bit compatible ?

  • hi, i have a hard disk with MS-DOS, what program can use to make a clone of it? thank you.

  • You sound like "Eli's Dirty Jokes" guy.

I just restored an full exact image of a 160GB drive to a 320 GB empty, but now the 320GB is showing up as only 160GB and the rest is unallocated. I don't like having two partitions, so do I need to create a partition to the unallocated and then merge it together?

  • Larry is away for about 10 days. He does not have access to a computer (must be killing him). I'm sure he'll reply when he returns.

  • You can use Partition Magic and assign unallocated space to that partition.

Btw he really does sound like Eli's dirty jokes guy hehe

  • Very good and easy to understand

  • nice!!!

  • CONT... Most users said that if you uninstall true image it still does leaves some of its traces and components in the registry. How do you uninstall true image without leaving any traces of its components in the PC? To be specific a clean uninstall process without doing it manually?

  • Good day sir, I have true image 11 but i am having second thoughts of installing it... I researched about true image and found out that it is a great software but most of the users having difficulties uninstalling it. i found out that true image have no full uninstall process..most users do a manual uninstall of ATI.. Is there any way to do a clean uninstall of true image without living any traces of its components in the registry?

  • ...CONT: An advantage of backing up to to an external drive is that no matter what happens to your PC you still have your backup. If you backup to another Drive on the same computer (2nd hard drive) you have your backup if your primary hard drive suffers a mech failure.

Creating a backup on an external hard drive or second hard drive will present no problem in restoring the backup.

I'll get back to you as soon as I have the time with a greater explaination of the Secure Zone

    Larry

  • Hi Aziatidverse,

If the backup to the secure zone was verifed it is probably there. I only have a few minutes now so I won't try to explain the procedure for checking it. I'll give you that info when I have some time to go into a longer explaination.

Using the Secure Zone has advantages but it has one big advantage. If the hard drive was to fail you would lose your backup.

I perfer to backup to an external hard drive, or another hard drive in the coputer. (CONTINUED)

  • Mr. Mango,

I created a backup image just as you did in your video, but chose my backup location on the Acronis Secure Zone partition (which i created on a seperate drive) vs. in another location . After doing so, I am not able to view the backup. I still have a message on the home page stating "System State Warning: No Backups have been created" eventhough i indeed created a backup (verified backup, even in the event log).

  • ....CONTINUED: I was going to create the backup on a regular partition on another HD, but Acronis recommends to do it in the Secure Zone as the restore process is much easier it claims. Should i just create a backup in a non-Secure Zone location? If i do so, will I be able to restore the backup without any issues?? Your insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

  • sorry, 7xar, i didn't mean to mark your letter as SPAM, but i wish i could figure out how to take that out! ya know, Fastclick here.

how is acronis echo workstation different from true image 11 as well as norton ghost 12?

i think what needs to be modified in a different version of this clip is what do you do w/any of these pgms to the ORIGINAL failed hard drive prior to restoring this image, since you say that this image can't be put on a different machine?

  • It is not that Echo Workstation is much different from True Image, but it does allow you to use another Acronis Program (for ease of discussion let's call it a plug in) called Acronis Universal Restore.

With Universal Restore it is possible to create an image on one computer and restore it to a different computer with different hardware.

I have only used it once and it worked perfectly. I will be doing some experiments with it as time allows.

I haven't used Ghost in years so can't comment

  • Hey Mr. Mango, I have a ton of files on my PC and I want to upgrade from a 32bit to a 64bit OS. I don't have a bigger hard-drive, so Arconis might not work. What do you recommend I do?

  • SirNoobs

Since you are replacing the operating system you pretty much have to consider backing up your data, installing the programs that will be compatible with your new OS, and then copying your backed up data to you machine.

    Larry

  • Acronis can back up your entire partition, or hard drive. It creates an image. The image can than be restored to original system in case of software or hardware failure.

There would probably be a problem installing it to another computer unless the systems had identical hardware.

However there are other Acronis products that would make it possible to restore the image to a computer with different hardware.

One product would be Acronis Echo Workstation,

    with optional Universal Restore.

  • Mangocomputer i would like to know if it works on windows vista?

  • HI 7xar, It will work on Windows Vista. Here are the system requirements from Acronis (Acronis True Image11) Windows® Vista; Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition; Windows® XP SP 2; Windows® 2000 Professional SP 4; CPU: 300MHz or higher; RAM: 256MB or higher; Disk space: 300 MB; Extra space for installation: 150 MB. Hope this helps you. Larry
  • thanks but acronis can backup the OS and install it in another computer right?

  • Hi Dado75,

You had the right answer. If you do the backup as presented in the video you will have it all. Then if you were hit with a particulary bad bit of spyware you could restore the backup and your computer would look, work and act the same way it did on the day you made the backup.

You would of course have to insall any data, programs and updates that were added since you make the backup. For that reason it is good to create a backup on a regular basis.

    Hope This Helps

    Larry

  • Thank you very much, I appreciate your help and rapid response.

    Regards

  • oh, one more question Larry, i am sorry to be a bother. when i backup my computer, i have an (F:) partition, which is the system recovery partition( i have an hp running xp media center), but i know it is installed when the OS is reinstalled. Do i need to be backing up this drive as well, or leave it for only if i must reformat the XP?

Please excuse the amateurishness of my question.

    Thanks in advance.

  • To be on the safe side. Look at your HP manual and see how you go about burning the recovery partition to DVDs or CDs. That is always a good thing to do.

Our comments are limited so we will use the quick answer here. Back it up, It will return you system to the way it was when you first set it up and turned it on. Your Acronis will be a backup of the System the day you created the Acronis backup. Probably not a bad idea having both

  • Glad I was able to help. It is a nice feeling to know that your system is protected.

    Larry

  • Hi Larry, just a question, and i'm kind of sure of the answer, but wondering if there's something i may have missed... Is it possible to back up everything, and i mean EVERYTHING, on my pc so that even applications and running programs may work just as they did the day i back up, without having to reinstall them, of course. Thanks in advance.

  • I take it that when you back up your image to external hardrive, just boot your pc with the external hard drive? lol...that may sound lame but just want to clarify...

  • um the only thing you needed to say is that you should tell the program to validate to backup after it is made! That is very important!

  • sir can i ask??? if i only back up my drive c it is possible that all my other partition drive data will erase after i restore the drive C???

  • Hi Tagema,

If you are not careful when backing up and restoring this could probably happen.

Lets say you have one physical hard drive with 2 partitions.

Let's say the partions are called "C" and "E".

You can backup just "C". If you need to restore from the backup you use the wizard and be very careful that when restoring (the wizard calls it recovery" you Select "C" as the target partition.

This is hard to explain in a short space.

You may want an experienced person's help

    Larry

  • shud i really make a back up on DVD on restoring my drive???

  • I find it better to make the back up on to an external hard drive. I say this because if you are backing up your entire drive it could take a number of DVDs.

If you are talking about backing up your important data before creating your Acronis backup. The answer is yes. Although not truly necessary it is always a good idea to back up your data on a regular basis.

I would suggest you download the manual from Acronis for detailed information.

  • sir i have acronis true image 11 free trial,, its fail to install is there any installation requirements??? the error says about proxy and firewall but i turn it off but i have still the same problem...

  • I have just used Acronis Echo for Workstation to image a drive and restore it to a totally different system. It worked well, saving hours of work in setting up the new computer.

  • are you sure that my MBR will be backed up ass well?????

  • Ike,

If you do a full drive back up as shown it will provide you with a image that will restore your computer to the exact state it was in when you made the backup. This would certainly indicate that the MBR is backied up

    Larry

  • Why you did not validate the archive

  • Hi Ike,

Good observation. I didn't validate it in the demo for time reasons. The image I created in the video was validated. In practice I validate all backups.

  • Is it possible to make an exact copy of my old hard drive onto my new HDD w/o having to first create an iso? Reason: No external HDD, lol.

  • Hi Slash,

    Yes it is.

Add the new hard drive (without removing the old one)

    Open Acronis

    Click on Disk Utilities

    Click on Add New Disk

Follow the prompts in the wizard

When you are done your new drive will be an exact clone of your old drive.

Your new Drive may have come with software that allows you to do this.

If not Acronis is a great way to go

  • Wow, thank you!

  • hello i have a problem and i do need help is there a way i can give my other drive extra GB example my c'drive has Plenty 250GB and the other only has 160GB using software or what ever needs nesserary can i give the drive which is called the d-drive with only 160GB More? please help Great video

  • HI RobTeck4,

I need a bit of information before I can give you a good answer.

I sent you an email with some questions.

    Larry

  • thank you for the reply and i am using xp i have 2 partation's i have 1 thats 250GB and the other partion the d has no more space left can i give the 250gb drive to the 160gb

example the 250GB Hardrive has 250GB of space lets call this the c-drive the c-drive has tooooo much space that ill never use however the d-rive which has all my importent dats on it is very low which is the D-rive which is 160GB only can i use from the c- drive and give to the d rive which software do i use and is it pos

  • Hi RobTeck4,

If you only have one drive that is split into 2 partitions, it is possible to do what you want to do. We are extremely busy right now, but will get back in about 24 hours with the some possible solutions. You did a good job of stating the problem, easy to understand.

    Cheers

    Larry

  • Hi RobTeck4

In either case you would want to do a full backup before starting.

Take a look at the websites. I'll reply later with some more specific ideas.

    Cheers

    Larry

  • nice vid funny too! i wish all the other computer geeks on youtube explain acronis as easy as you did. Some of these guys on here just like to talk to entertain themselv's. Tanx chief. You good guy!

  • Hi MikeyGeneral,

    I appreciate your comments.

I really try to explain things so people can understand them without needing a degree in geekology.

Nothing wrong with being a geek, I love being one, I just remember how to speak like a regular person.

    All the Best

    Larry

  • Never forget that! always keep in mind that you would be surprised to know how much people are not as smart as you in this world. And acting like a smartass only complicates things. If you were a woman,i'd give you a big kiss,ut since your'e a guy,i'l just give you a handshake and say thanx.Cause before i saw this video.I was gonna do something really stupid and erase all my files.Whew -Thanx a lot man.

  • Thanks again. Sure am glad I helped, and that you didn't erase all your files. Here's a handshake back to you.

But don't waste the kiss, find a great woman to give it to.

    Larry
