Since when did teams get a touchback just by letting the ball run into the endzone?

I seen this vid a few times and didn't really realize, what you were saying, but you caught that. What if a NMSt. player would have run all the way to the endzone and jumped on that ball after the whistle had blown(when it shouldn't have been blown), Major Mistake by the refs. There would have been a major protest. Good eye, Joe.

Actually, the New Mexico guy _did_ run into the end zone and pick up the ball (see :54). But it was still a touchback, so that must be the rule.
