  • I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. What beautiful people, beautiful singing and beautiful song.

  • No its not East Anglian its a border ballad from the Scottish/English border dated to 1840 by Fransis Childe and before that to 1740 in print as Lady Cassiles lilt. Lady Cassiles was a scottish lady married to the 6th earl of Cassiles who ran off with the romani gypsy in 1640. Its so not from east Anglia. They may have addopted it as their anthem but it certainly wasnt written there nor the characters.

The Irish claim Danny Boy to be their anthem but it was written by an Englishman

  • anywhere i can download this music?

  • I would love to meet norma waterson. She is like the anchorwoman and the keeper of the flame for the music of the ordinary (and not so ordinary) ppl.

  • Well hell, its just the best music on the internet. Its beyond comment.

  • No comments, eh? Well, allow me. I absolutely love this subtle chugger of a tune - it froths like a good pint and crackles like a fire in an inglenook. A sea-burnished pebble. Lovely!
