Step Sisters59_ Vaulting is Gymnastics/dance on the back of a "Moving horse" Just thought i would correct Skripple... Because we vault with 3 diffrent gates, Walk, Trot and Canter. And yes we do, do flips, just in a diffrent way :) Like of the horse, or as you could see, someone holding both your hands and you do a flip.....
I absolutely love this group they are INSANE! Like that was so amazing! I cant wait until i can do that!!!
Ok... i think it is a little crule putting that may people on 1 horse at the same time and making it canter for ages... but, saying that i've do things like that but not on a vaulting horse and only 1 person at a time on a coby type horse so he has loads of stamina. But top marks to them for not falling off! I have been doing it for 5 years and STILL fall off in practaces, never fallen in a show though! (luckerly)
well you also gotta consider, if it is a proper vaulting team, how much care they take of the horses back. the horse, to begin with, has a very solid back. so i mean it may be a little uncomfortable, but i believe if the horse doesnt like it, he can always buck and such
yes, as an experienced vaulter i can say that we take very good care of our horses to prevent their backs from getting sore. usually, they only get vaulted on 3x a week, on a other days the trainer does dressage/hacking with them. if you don't take care of your horse, they'll break, and you definitely won't be able to put 3 people on them. plus, remember that these guys are really experienced, and know how to be light on the horse's back. :)
I train on a belgian and a shire cross. Obviously you'd be crazy to go into an international competition on a draft - the judges would make rude comments. but lots of people vault on drafts at the lower levels. and lots of international level vaulters still train on drafts even tho they compete on warmbloods.
it takes at least two years to train a vaulting horse. and no 12 hands would be much too small. 16 hands is the smallest I'd ever use for a little kid. I'm 5'5'' and the smallest horse I could use would be 17.2hh
At the lower levels it matters less. I could probably do a very simple freestyle or compulsories on a 16-16.2ish horse - at the higher levels when you are doing more difficult freestyles with moves like leaps, cartweels ect. and technical tests you will HURT your horse if they are too small. Basically the horse needs to be strong enough to balance underneath you and take impact when you make mistakes (which we all inevitably do no matter how experience and carefull we are)
@Sanchara wow, how do you jump soo high in to them??..i can jump on my 14.2 horse but not my 15.2 ... how do you jump ( with your arms or legs...or both???)
@kusskuss101 both, also the horse's momentum pulls you up. I can't just jump on my horse if she is standing still (she's 18.1hh) but if she's moving I can, with a lot of effort in walk - easily in canter.
WOW! Vaulting is now my Second favorite equestrian sport. (Sorry but jumping comes first) It's very intresting to watch. i can't even imagine the strength it takes to do it! i'm going to have to watch some more videos.
I used to vault from 1981-1986,when there were only 2 teams in Britain.I can't believe how much more technical and difficult it has become over the last 20years!!!I'm 37 now....would love to have a go now to see if I could still get on!!
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd
I've seen that sport parodied on a Sargento Cheese ad, in which the shoppers do some equestrian vaulting as they glide on their shopping carts to the waltz of the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" (Do you Disney fanatics recognize the song from the movie adaption of that ballet?) If anyone posts this, let the YouTubers see for themselves!!!

it really is. it makes riding feel different, more connected. Developes strength, flexibility, balance, and a bunch of other things. And it's just plain fun
FAME did a stellar job this last year..can't wait to see what they bring to the table in 07'. I saw them @ Natanals in 06' and talked to them after! it was amazing!

@Sanchara Ok
cool
I'm really small, like 4ft5 maybe smaller.
So yeah, how big a horse would I go on?
I'm not going to grow anymore either.
But thanks for the advice, it's helped alot.

I'd find a vaulting club with an experienced coach. Vaulting is a great thrill that's also super safe if you take the right percautions.
