@hailcrusher I do know what you mean, but it's not quite the same thing. In the 1920s Egyptian women stopped wearing headscarves—after Arab elites helped defeat the Ottoman caliphate (1924). According to Atatürk, "Nothing in our religion requires women to be subordinate to men." He was for women's equality& opposed the headscarf among other things. However, in 1928, Hassan al-Banna founded the Muslim Brotherhood to stand against British imperialism& return to early (7-8thC.) Islam.

@thatlldopig12 i believe in equality. but the definition of equality probably changes from my point of view to yours. wearing the hejab is a solid part of islam as stated by all the muslim scholars, denying it as part of islam makes you a prostitute. yet, not wearing it makes you a sinner. We muslims do not take one man's word as truth. For it to be correct, a group of muslim scholars have to agree to it. Here, from the 4 participants, none embrace islam truely. biased (period).

@hailcrusher I have studied Islamic history& understand what you are saying (about scholars agreeing). Also, when you explain your argument more fully, the conclusion of biased more clearly follows. (Not that I don't think the panel is biased, I do.) However, there are Islamic countries outside of N Africa& the Middle East that don't enforce the covering of women with hijabs or burqas, such as Kenya or Java. And even though Ethiopia is Christian, it is about 30% Muslim and they don't either.
