The tone lies more in playing around with your EQ until you get the right sound. I have a 15 watt amp and a 275$ and i can get some really thick, brutal tones out of it.

I have my bass around 8.5, mids also around 8.5 and treble a bit higher, like 9.5, it's a very thick, bassy and also trebly sound so it sounds very tight and clear. Try it out.

sweet dude, I play a lot of hard rock, metal, and classic rock. Really I'm mostly an all around guy. so for certain tones I've found that if you turn your master down and your tone knobs up with your channel gain for 3 quarters, its easier to get the sound you want by working it in backwards.

B.C. Rich guitars are nice guitars and all, but I have to say that I am not a fan of them, just because of the quality of such a guitar is not as up to date as maybe an ESP like Jeff Hanneman's guitar would be...though if I could, I would own Kerry King's B.C.s any day, just because they have good quality tone depending on the amp you put them through

yes it does matter if you down strum or up strum if you are chords. The chord will have a chunkier sound if you down strum since you are hitting the lower notes first. If up upstrum it will have a brighter sound...thats why ska or reggae bands or that style strum up on the chords...with a single string it doesnt down or up
