What are they getting at? Everyone uses a Personal Computer. The only people I can think this commercial is for is the Amish, but they're never going to see this.
I'm a mac and I'm a twat because Apple computers are PCs too! A PC is a PC whether it's running Windows or not. REGARDLESS OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM YOU USE ON IT OR WHO MADE THE HARDWARE! Whether you use Mac OS on your PC, or Microsoft Windows on your PC or GNU+Linux on your PC, by definition, it's still a friggin PC!
I am not a Mac and I am not a PC, I am a person that proudly does not use Windows or Mac OS.
What a load of crap!!! how this ad gets as low as Apple's Ads... I don't give a fuck if people use Apple computers or Usual OEM/ODM Computers... this ad is just as moronic as Apple's... Just wow...
I'm a PC and I'm proud of it?????????? I'm a mac and think I'm a sexy elite guy/gal???
wtf those african dudes are soo dumb..they just sed that for the money...why pay all that for vista or win7 rtm** when u can get ubuntu..that has no stop responding messages an all that....and made in africa..lol....
Having seen a few of these ads, I still don't quite get it. Is the point here that "PC" equals "computer with MS Windows installed"? I see this reflected in the discussion here in the comments section as well. Is this really how native English speakers use the term? How, then, should one refer to personal computers that aren't running MS Windows? I take my hat off for the Microsoft marketing division for a seemingly successful appropriation of a generic term.
Unfortunately, this is what happens when something becomes ubiquitous.
Windows is installed in the majority of personal computers, so people tend to generalize: PC = Windows.
It's very much how, back in the days of 8 and 16-bit gaming, video games were referred to as "the Nintendo" by the layperson unfamiliar with specifics such as Nintendo's competitors.
Nintendo's ubiquity was earned by their dominance back then and, perhaps in a lesser extent, even today because of the success of the Wii.
As for the point of the ads, in some ways I do, but in other ways I don't.
One way to look at it is that the majority of people use Windows, and, as is the case with a large group, there will be a diverse range of people representing that group.
Yet, another point could be made that these diverse range of individuals chose to conform by using what is predominant rather than each person making their own choices.
That's how I tend to interpret it, and the message is contradictory, at best.
Microsoft countered Apple by vaguely showing that Windows is used by the majority of computer users. It doesn't really make any other point and it doesn't address any other advantages and disadvantages of their own product and that of their competitor's.
Apple's approach, however, was specific, attacking their competitor's product and making points about the weaknesses of a computer running Windows and how OS X offers benefits over the competition (whether it's true or not is another topic).
There are many low-cost video editing solutions on Windows with similar functionality to FCP -- Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, Ulead VideoStudio X2, Roxio Edasy Media Creator, etc. etc. etc. There are LOTS of inexpensive editing software programs on the PC. What is there on the Mac? FCP and iMovie... professionals use Avid and FCP typically -- and others when needing compositing tools. FCP is probably NOT what this edited in.
Excellent point and a perfect satire to Microsoft's ad campaign.
While Apple advertised the benefits OS X offers to potential customers, Microsoft replied with a petty response and even obscurantism.
The biggest kick in the head was that Microsoft never directly contested Apple's contention.
The fact that the PC was represented by a "stereotype" wasn't the main point of the "Mac vs. PC" ads. Microsoft resorted to a straw man in their ads while using a nonsensical slogan: Life without walls.
"life without walls"...1: walls provide the most basic form of security, 2: without walls you cant have windows, so essentially this ad is suggesting life without windows...how dumb are the M$ marketing team! Mac all the way...
mac is even less secure then pc. its just today hacker are so bad to come up with new ideas they use old ones and they cant make money on a OS that is not even 10% on world market. microsoft has 90%.
i know for a fact Pharelle or whatever his name is NOT a pc, he's a musician and pretty much every music studio uses a mac since its the best computer for mixing and shit.
I find this comercial to be quite an effective comeback, but mac is still cool, and pc is just pointing out that everyone has a pc and were all geeks, but its also cool to be a geek, you follow?
PC....Is personal computer. Macs are personal computers..... Windows,Linux,MacOS,BSD,Solaris and NExtStep are a few I can name. Oh also amiga os,BEos and 2000 others.
MS, your an operating system. NOT A PC.
A PC is a computer that fits on your desk.
Windows is an OS that runs on a PC.
MS, nice try. This also makes apples ads fail, and shows the stupidity of the general computer user market.
Either way, it's a step up from the Mojave and Seinfeld ads. Both of those campaigns blew up badly. Can you even find the Seinfeld ones outside of Youtube anymore? BTW, I run Redhat for work and Ubuntu for home.
Terrible campaign. Takes the annoyance factor of the Mac campaign, amplifies it, then applies it to itself. Does the complete opposite of what was intended.
No, they make the Mac adds look immature. They also show how much better PC's are then macs because you have "life without walls" meaning millions of free programs you can use and you can use whatever hardware you want with macs? Nope you just pay more for cheap hardware.
From reviews that I have heard, they made it seem like Pharrell was going to be a more prominent part of this commercial. Oh well - it caught my attention and I like it alot.

People who make billions in advertising, for one. It's interesting to discuss and analyse. It's also called being a smart consumer.
locutusufdf 3 years ago
So the Mac vs PC war idiots on youtube commenting are making "billions in advertising"? No.
"Smart consumers" analyze the specs and get solid reports and feedback on the products. "Smart consumers" aren't influenced by 30-sec ads.
If you find commercials interesting, you may want to get out of the house more, or turn off the TV.
