  • I really hope that people will READ Freire and not simply depend on the comments in this thread as a means to understand his theories or "motives." Both are clearly stated in Pedagogy of the Oppressed although it may require numerous passes (with dictionary in hand) and time to reflect on how one's own experience mirrors what exists in his writings.

  • Critical pedagogy sounds merely like a re-invention of neo-humanist education.

  • @dagstidning

"Sounds". Do you even know what it is?

  • @jawgraphy yes, a theory that proclaims itself to be "radical" and "critical". Bur realy it sounds like the socratic method all over agian, nihil novi.

  • @dagstidning

BUR REALY. U SHUD READ DA BOOK BAYBAY.

Freire never claimed that Pedagogy of the Oppressed was in any way radical. It was and still is the people on top of the educational system's political ladder that claimed it was radical. To those outside the educational system who are in favor of Freire's philosophy, it's radical because it isn't implemented. Terminology, dude.

Also, you basically accidentally said that the Socratic method isn't critical. HERP DERP DERP

  • Interesting comments yuki. I think every one's view of the different working philosophies in education are molded by their life's experiences. The most important think in life is to learn from our mistakes. Take what you can from all the things that touch your life and make you the best "You" you can be. Cheers.

  • @Draxanya Yes, some people have had parents and influences from people who hate America and are filled with envy; these people lean toward destructive ideas like those of Friere.

  • Freire was a hateful and vengeful person who is angry at the poverty he endured as a youth.

His answer is Revolutionary Marxism, disguised as a "pedagogy" to help the poor and the oppressed. He uses very high-sounding terms, but the goal is that of Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin and Hitler. There is no difference between what Freire would have and what these people gave the world.

  • @yukiomishima246 That is an excellent evaluation of Freire, and his thinly veiled agenda of using the schools to advance socialism and indoctrination.

Just as John Dewey proposed, and something we are still trying to undo in the public schools.

Progressive education has been a disaster for the US and we are only slowly working our way out of it.

  • "Progressive" education may very well have been a disaster for education in the US (as well as perhaps the most ridiculously named scam within the last 100 years), but it has been wildly profitable for the by now entrenched education elite in our country. "Progressive" education has served to build an ever-increasing divide between inner-city schools (where it is most often practiced) and suburban schools, and has justified ever-increasing funding for schools that are literally designed to fail.

  • Yes, the Liberals response to failure is "more funding." This is never so evident as in the field of education. Think about when test scores started declining: The mid-1960s. And, think about when federal funding, and especially the Ungrateful Society began its Socialist march - the mid 1960s.

    More than a coincidence, more....

  • @ManchuDan22

Yes, Dewey was a statist, and his progeny are the modern Liberals. Fortunately, the homeschooling movement is increasing, and we should do all we can to encourage parents to homeschool their children.

  • @yukiomishima246 No no no. Look into what text book suppliers distribute, what grade level parents who home school achieve, and the laws that state they needn't have a HS diploma.

  • Fair enough. But it's one thing to identify the pedagogy of Left fascism, another to actively combat it. How does one meaningfully deal with the color-based class racism and Marxist evangelicism of the fascist Left, when individuals like Paolo Freire have such wide acceptance amongst the wealthy leaders of the US education monopoly?

  • @DrCruel We need to simply say, "No!" The Left will attack with charges of racism. Look beyond the immediate and see their agenda. It is only to put you on the defensive and stifle any discussion, reason, and logic. Therefore, it is important NOT to defend yourself. Rather, go on the attack and stay on the attack. The moment you try to explain yourself or deny that you are a racist, they have won. Never do this. They are not capable of defending themselves because there is nothing there.

  • hey wow this is great
