A very good cover of the ABBA classic, reminds me of University in Newcastle 79-82 oh happy days, life was so simple then and the music was so so good, The Tube on Friday night, Echo & the Bunnymen, Yazoo, Human League, Siouxsie and the Banshees, aahhh.
@arcadiaduran .Apparently,if a person's top two teeth grow with a gap between them,it means they were meant to come into money and success.Maybe when you where born, you were that fucking ugly, even the doctors slapped your mother and kicked you up the ward.So before you go making pathetic remarks about people, take a good long look in the mirror at yourself first
@arcadiaduran you americans are obsessed with people teeth from this country. does this explain why every teen i see in america wears braces, even though they probably don't need them!?!?
I know this from a german book calls "Splitterherz". I love it (the song), but it's not like the music I normaly listen to. (I hope, it is allright with my writing....)
@wendywoozy i think it ruins that part of the video, he seems a bit desperate and fragile, very passionated and good acting.....then he started smiling and ruins everything....pity..
Great song, thanks ABBA, great singer, thanks Neil Arthur ( What are you doing these days?) Great video, thanks all concerned and PimpinBassie2 for uploading it. Would love to hear it in HQ stereo and view it in HD.
I'd forgotten how good this version is despite sticking very closely to the original. People should realise that at the time of this cover, Abba were perceived as being very cheesy & really rather naff & anything but cool. Even less the writers of some of the most perfect modern pop music. This was prior to Erasure's "Abbaesque" ep & the later abysmal covers by the likes of Steps! I still can't decide which version I like best. There are aspects of both I prefer.
I have been an ABBA fan since their beginning. I have to say, this is nicely done. Different...............but nicely and tastefully done. Congrats. BTW, the images of Agnetha definitely helped! :)
I rarely like 'covers' (rip offs - somebody making money from somebody else's hard work etc is what I'd normally say), and even more rare, is for me to prefer the cover. But I make an exception from time to time. This is one of those times.
Agnetha just got me with her stunning voice,...........even though this is a also a very good version.............but somehow i like the Abba one better.........

I would like to ask every peoples who likes this song: Which one version of this song is better: of original by ABBA or this one by Blancmange? My oppinion its: this by Blancmamge is much much better than by ABBA.
@kagelta Well, for me which one is the better really depends of my mood of the day. I just really like both versions. Blancmange because they change the mood enough to make it their own. If you try to outdo Abba in their own sound, you'll probably loose. My general opinion of covers: don't try to replicate, make your own version.
@gothicphilosopher Blind vision, living on the ceiling, those songs destroyed my ears(together with a lot off other new wave songs),but hahaha ,who cares!! :-) .... I will never understand why they made this cover
When I first arrived in KL and walked into my hotel room, this video came on the TV. I had the song on cassette tape, but didn't know there was a video and certainly didn't expect it to be the first thing I'd see in Asia. Made me feel less of a Stranger, and sense the connectedness and common sympathies of people around the world. That was a long time ago, and the song still moves me.
COR! when he smiles at 4 mins Mmmm! Always loved this group when I was a teenybopper!....
why do people click " dislike" on vids is beyond me...if you dont "like"...move on to something you do like! some people just arent happy in this life..
I didnt know till yesterday that this was an abba song, so I thought i would listen to the abba version, much as I like Abba, I prefer this version, I think the abba vocals are quite weak compared to their other songs. great song.
a very good cover of the ABBA song, he has a strong and clear voice (he should have gone into musicals),am glad the instrumental bridge was shortened as opposed to the original which was too long (it was a bit monotonous and overwrought), nice to see glimpses of Ms. Faltskog in this video, no doubt inserted as she was quite a looker in those days and as a tribute to the group - who must have known the end (of Chapter 1) was in sight when they recorded this wistful piece of melancholy.
This is such a cool tune. It is actually a cover of an ABBA song. I know, ABBA Steve? But just listen to the words, it's a pretty cool goofy little song. Or I'm just weird. And I can handle that. I like weird songs. LOL. And Blancmange is one of my favorite quirky bands from the 80's. 'Living on the ceiling' and 'Don't tell me' are great songs
I think their version is just too similar to Abba's and therefor not really all that brilliant like most other Blancmange's tracks... Still... Neil Arthur is just sheer eyecandy... the beautymark and the gapped frontteeth... makes me melt down likepink candlewax... always has...
Still... I had hoped they'd make a comaback last year, as announced... but... no such luck...
i neva new they did a version of abbas song, it was a vry gd song of abba a shame it didnt do very well, seeing it was their last eva song ... how many more covers is there? ive heard 3 ???
I saw Blancmange live once at Wembley when they supported Paul Young. I was in the second row and something must have been wrong cos the singer stormed off during a break in the lyrics and really ripped into this bloke, then came back and carried on. i still wonder to this day what happened
I never heard this single until now, though read about it again and again in British music mags and papers. What a great cover. There is something very fitting about this - ABBA was the first major Europop band, and Blancmange really was one of the second generation greats ( though never got much recognition). Thanks PimpinBassie2 for posting this.
You remind me of Bjorn...a young boy that was hidden away in Norway? Frida visited once to watch the Northern Lights and to make sure Bjorn's son was safe. Whatever? I love your voice. If you are related to Bjorn....stay out of Hollywood...off of the red carpet...out of theatres where it is rumoured that many an actress has disappeared. You feel like him? You feel good!
@ESCTorsten I am actually an android, you spotted me! No, seriously. I know tons of people love Abba but I think their music is just so ridiculous. Everyone's taste in music is different and no one is right or wrong...well, except me because I just am right! LOL JK. Glad you love Abba and now, go listen to "Fernando."

must have seen 100+ concerts in the 80s and 90s. but never seen blancmange, they have always been one of my top bands. love this tune but alway liked 'waves' better
While it's partially a mickey-take of Abba, it's still a great version in its own right. Agnetha is in the video too, so Abba didn't seem upset about it!
@equin0xia Well he does sound a lot like Stephen Mallinder of Cabaret Voltaire (one of my favourites) so he can't be that great a singer. I like Neil Arthur's voice but I do think he's well out of his comfort zone on this track although it somehow suits the track perfectly.
Does anyone realise this cover is a piss-take of the Abba song? "I must have read a while, the latest one by Barbara Cartland or something in that style" :)
remember play this song again and again and again on cassette ...ummm .... what a beautiful song. 80's is full with good memories, thank for posting this song.

@CollectorOfMusic I don't know if they ever toured. They only put out 2 albums, for years, it was almost impossible to even find their music.

While it's partially a mickey-take of Abba, it's still a great version in its own right. Agnetha is in the video too, so Abba didn't seem upset about it!

And what was the point of this? The guy needs to take singing classes.

he's a great singer

@forelight
perhaps you could enlighten us as to why he should have taken "singing classes," oh wise one.
equin0xia 1 year ago
@equin0xia So he would know how to sing instead of showing off and gazing intensely into distance.
forelight 1 year ago
@equin0xia Well he does sound a lot like Stephen Mallinder of Cabaret Voltaire (one of my favourites) so he can't be that great a singer. I like Neil Arthur's voice but I do think he's well out of his comfort zone on this track although it somehow suits the track perfectly.

Does anyone realise this cover is a piss-take of the Abba song? "I must have read a while, the latest one by Barbara Cartland or something in that style" :)
moondustjunky 1 year ago
it may or may not be a 'piss-take' of abba but they'e abba fans anyway
