  • Awsome!

  • i want one....

  • Look you bigoted, narrow minded, one eyed, conspiring Australians, ignorant Australians I was media director for Eggenberger Motorsport in 1987 We DID Not run illegal fuel and the fuel slobs can back clear, then they the V*8 low teach dinosaurs teams accused us of illegal impellor which the both the FIA and CAMS inspections cleared us of... Due a mismanufacture mis-mold in the inside rain run off guard on the panel EVERY Sierra team in the field, including DJR had to fold back the inside

  • The RS500 is a F**king Legend!

  • Woooooooo go Eggenberger! Thats my name!!!!!!!!!

  • andy rouse's rs500 cars were fast and all the parts were built for a purpose and not finished to the high standard of the texaco sierra in the paint and such like parts polished to look good aswel as going fast.dick johnson had a great car and so did allan moffat.the fordrs500 was banned because itwas to good justlike the skylinegtr. loved watching these cars race but when they started banning cars it went downhill abit imo.would love to see a car come into touring cars and do what the rs500 did

  • The fans were all cheering Brock on at the top on the last lap - in saying that, that Sierra, whilst illegal, was a mighty little car, and such a great car it proved to be in the next two years at Bathurst...

  • yer they banned em! best touring car ever!

    cossie power rulez

  • dick johnon sierra and peter brock was the fastest sierras in the world

  • Hi Iam from Greece...which is the fastest RS500 in history?....Dick Johnsons,TEXACOS or Andys ROUSES sierras???thank you....

  • Dick Johnson's was the fastest

  • quite simple really, the aussies banned the skyline because it beat their v8's, and the same with the RS500's as well, typical eh?

  • They were "banned" for different reasons. The FIA changed the ruling regarding the works teams. Far to many with differing paint jobs and unlimited budgets The Aussies took advantage of the changes to use home grown GM and Ford cars, whereas the Nissan Skyline was banned because when modified to meet the rules of competion they were just too powerful and uncompetetive.

  • i DONT KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY CLOSE TO THE E GGENBERDER CARS BUT MAD ANDY PULLED OUT AND PASSED THE LEAD CAR GOING UP MOUNTAIN STRAIGHT ONLY TO GET CAUGHT IN THE PITS DURING PACE CAR DEBARKLE!!

  • Woah, hold everything. Why are they using the music from the news on Channel 4 at 0:53 !!?

  • I wondered that - very strange?!

  • I noticed that too!

  • I just wish that Dick had been able to get a competative RS500 on the mount in 87 because DJR would have given those Eggenberger RS500's

    a run for their money.

  • this was a bad season for aussie motorsport, offcourse we were never close to the money and tec, comming from europe! we had alot of catching up to do. Dick johnson was the only man that could have had a change to show the world that aussies can compete.

  • Indeed we did but once Dick had the Sierra's sorted,I may be a touch biast here but didn't Australia's finest Ford soldier get them sorted.

  • Towards the near end of the development cycle,Dick was building the fastest sierras in the world..you are right..he fucked em hard in Europe only to have an alternator or starter fall off or sumthin

  • Water pump failed IIRC

  • I know a Mini a Ford Cortina a RS500 and a Nissan Skyline GTR have won the great race, and Greg Murphy the Kiwi driver has one it a couple of time's.

I believe the Eggburger cars were disqualified for running illegally high octane gas as well.

  • Lots of people running rocket fuel at Bathurst back in the 1980's. They were never busted for fuel as everyone elses was tested as bent as well...!

  • @85gt The fuel was the same for everone, it came from a gas station in Bathurst and was tested by cams, it past, Eggenberger was disqualified for bodywork, ie bigger wheel arches, so that he could fit larger wheels and tyres. Its in the book the Great Race 1987. The case was held in Japan by FISA 2 months later and Brocky was handed the win.

  • Comment removed

  • i saw the race winning car in the uk a few months ago, its currently for sale i believe..

  • The car you saw will have been the car that Martin Johnson restored. His car was actually a 1988 car decal'd to look like the '87 car. Lovely piece all the same. The best engineered racing Sierras by a country mile...

  • I rememeber these sierra racing in bathurst as they cane 1st and 2nd but later after the race they was disquaifled, I cant rememeber why....

  • Protests were raised by a couple of the Australian teams over bodywork irregularities. The cars were OK with FISA (Governing body in Europe) but CAMS (Governing body in Australia) didn't like it and upheld the protests. Sadly, it was entirely political. Fact is that a non-Australian car was never going to win this race...

  • Yes that true that non-austraila never win the race in Bathurst, every austrailan driver win each year....

These black Sierra was one of my fav in these days and I was happy to win but later when I told by friend as I was very upset why they on disquaifled....

I like these old days than now which using supercar V8 only Ford and Holden since 1993 to now...I want more model like Nissan, BMW, Jagaur, Toyota, which was race there a long time ago....

  • What about the TWR Jags in 1985? Admittedly an Aussie driver, but UK prepared and owned team. Eggenberger got busted cheating pure and simple, the "we won't protest your illegal car if you don't protest our illegal car" philosophy didn't fly at Bathurst. The cars were that well prepared, I have no doubt they would have won with the modifications that would make them legal

  • If anyone ran bent cars it was TWR. There's a whole story in there...! The point is that there never has been a straight car. Those that are straight are only like that temporarily while the teams are finding ways to bend them. The DJR Sierras were practically boomerangs they were that bent. I know because I know the bloke that bought them off him...! I'm happy to continue this discussion in a non-libellous arena if you like (ie: offline!!!) as it's an interesting one. Cheers.

  • Funny that the FIA upheld the appeals as well...the cars had tyres on them that were wider than the rules allowed - so were rightfully disqualified...if they had followed the rules, they would have won anyway, and wouldn't have been disqualified...

  • Very true, but the FIA was hardly going to argue over a rule they had written. When flagged at Bathurst by the CAMS scrutineers the FIA could hardly turn round and say "Yeah, but in Europe we're not that bothered and are pretty lax about the rules". This time they had to be shown to take the correct stance and the Texaco cars fell foul.

  • From what I understand, the only thing "illegal" on the Eggenberger Sierras were the inner guards, which were slightly different to suit the wider tyres the cars were allowed to run under the World Touring Car Championship rules - which this event was supposed to be run under since it was a round of the World Touring Car Championship. The Sierras were actually running the correct tyres according to the CAMS rules, just that the inner guards were different.

  • "A non-Australian car was never going to win this race" is quite right. The alleged illegalities should have been pointed out by scrutineers, long before any cars got out on to the track that weekend. It's not like the inner guards were changed immediately before, or during the race.

  • this is amazing. rs500 4ever!!!
