That premature burnout thing is completely false. At most you put more load on the fuse, but those are dirt cheap. When you plug a set of lights into another set of lights they DO NOT GO THROUGH THE OTHER LIGHTS. There is a second hot line that goes directly to the end plug.

I expected better from Home Depot. I don't think I'll trust any of their videos now.

Hell, in a 100 string set the lights are actually broken down to two circuits of 50, which is why you sometimes get a half set working. Thus, a 50 - 100 light set is actually 3 sets of 50 lights. Even if it wasn't, it still won't cause burn out.
