@sjd1012 The stimulus and bailout are two different spending programs, the stimulus was a lot of infrastructure improvements and other spending to stimulate jobs and the economy. I agree that the bailouts were a bad idea, but let's not conflate the two, they were different bills passed at different times. The stimulus gave money to cities and states to increase unemployment benefits/aid to schools/infrastructure improvements, etc. the bailout gave money to the corps that got us into the mess.

Also, I've driven on roads where I live that were funded by the stimulus package, there's been a number of road and bridge improvements that came as a result of stimulus money...and even if that assertion was true, there would be planned projects to use the money as it creates jobs. You can't tell me that the explosion of cities in the sunbelt wouldn't need additional infrastructure.

Now rising gas prices threaten to dismantle our feeble recovery, but that's unrelated to what we're doing. Gas Prices will go up in response to political instability across the Middle East, its natural, and honestly if that's what it costs to give those people democracy, I'm all for it.

@calthopian sorry about your health problems....thats really too bad, seriously; unfortunatley government health care works poorly at best; I grew up in Canada and saw some good things about it and some terrible things about it and no they don't have death panels but they do ' limit or stear care' in such a direction that many people fly down here to the US to get the proper care. Also, buying across state lines and a mandate, I honestly think the bill doesn't go far enough since it doesn't have a public option. A mandate is necessary because well, when you're right to not have insurance means that I have to pay for your heart attack, you're buying insurance.

@sjd1012 No, the bill is not unconstitutional (IMO) its just as constitutional as a car insurance mandate. The reason for the mandate was that without it all those plans I laid out (which are in the bill) would be too expensive for insurance companies to carry out and cause many to go out of business. And its not just high risk people who need coverage, there are 45 million americans that do, and when they get sick and go to the ER (where they must be treated) the tax payer gets the bill.

When the consumer looses faith in the economy the economy shrivels and dies, it is the responsibility of the other spending agents of a national economy to increase their spending to entice recovery, that's what a stimulus package is for. The problem was, the stimulus was too small and thus wasn't able to do everything it needed to do.

If it's seemingly impossible for the US and it's allies to defeat the Taliban in 10 years, I'd love to see how they would do against NK. NK's army is massive and well trained. I fail to see how the United States and other Western countries are allowed to have nuclear weapons, and other dangerous weapons, but when another non-western country decides to arm itself, everyone flips out. Sure, North Korea is the birthplace of sanity and reasoning, but they do have the right to develop nuclear weapons if they so choose. @sjd1012 The stimulus and bailout are two different spending programs, the stimulus was a lot of infrastructure improvements and other spending to stimulate jobs and the economy. I agree that the bailouts were a bad idea, but let's not conflate the two, they were different bills passed at different times. The stimulus gave money to cities and states to increase unemployment benefits/aid to schools/infrastructure improvements, etc. the bailout gave money to the corps that got us into the mess.

Also, I've driven on roads where I live that were funded by the stimulus package, there's been a number of road and bridge improvements that came as a result of stimulus money...and even if that assertion was true, there would be planned projects to use the money as it creates jobs. You can't tell me that the explosion of cities in the sunbelt wouldn't need additional infrastructure.

Now rising gas prices threaten to dismantle our feeble recovery, but that's unrelated to what we're doing. Also, buying across state lines and a mandate, I honestly think the bill doesn't go far enough since it doesn't have a public option. A mandate is necessary because well, when you're right to not have insurance means that I have to pay for your heart attack, you're buying insurance.

@sjd1012 No, the bill is not unconstitutional (IMO) its just as constitutional as a car insurance mandate. The reason for the mandate was that without it all those plans I laid out (which are in the bill) would be too expensive for insurance companies to carry out and cause many to go out of business. And its not just high risk people who need coverage, there are 45 million americans that do, and when they get sick and go to the ER (where they must be treated) the tax payer gets the bill.

A large portion of tax dollars goes directly to hospitals to pay them for the services they provide for the uninsured, for someone who wants to cut spending, this seems to be the perfect place to do it.

When the consumer looses faith in the economy the economy shrivels and dies, it is the responsibility of the other spending agents of a national economy to increase their spending to entice recovery, that's what a stimulus package is for. The problem was, the stimulus was too small and thus wasn't able to do everything it needed to do.

Cutting spending in a recession takes the very life blood of an economy out (money) so all these people trying to cut spending now are only perpetuating their own demise. (see fallacy of thrift)

I fail to see how the United States and other Western countries are allowed to have nuclear weapons, and other dangerous weapons, but when another non-western country decides to arm itself, everyone flips out. Sure, North Korea is the birthplace of sanity and reasoning, but they do have the right to develop nuclear weapons if they so choose. Maybe if we stopped slapping ridiculous sanctions on the country, and honored our promise of the lightwater reactor we never provided, they'd be friendlier.

@KimJongBeIllinDaily The US uses nuclear weapons as a deterrent-- look at the cold war, both sides didn't want to have to resort to nukes because they feared retaliation. If countries with fanatical leaders or corrupted governments get ahold of nukes, they could use them without even caring about the backlash that hit their people. And btw North Korea is crazy why you trying to defend them? They are a militaristic type of people.

And North Korea is making them to use as a First Resort. And they say that they're going to wipe out the USA, which beat Britain when it was just 13 Colonies. It could end out badly for the whole world, American allies will fight, and so on so forth.

Ever consider maybe it is because they are reporters and not engineers. Reporters tell you the story as they understand it and sometimes they don't understand it correctly. Hell I recall once seeing Jhon Searl on the news talking about his "Searl effect generator" which turned out to be nothing but a prop he used to fool people into thinking he had managed to generate electricity from nothing as if by magic. Apparrently the reporter covering that story knew nothing of thermodynamics.
