i agree. The fushigi is just an ordinary ball. The only thing that gives it more of the illusion of floating is the clear coat around a mirror center. The image reflected obvioisly will not spin and the center blockes out ambient light source so you dont get all of those wierd reflections as it spins. I would prefer to have a crystal sphere but i will admit it takes less skill to make a fushigi look like it floating as opposed to crystal. Your videos are great keep up the good work.

How can you compete with Fushigi and sell your balls, brinechild? Fushigi balls are magic and can float in mid air with no hands! KIDDING! :D
I just became aware of what contact juggling is yesterday. I looked it up because I got sick of the Fushigi commercials, and was like "WOW, Fushigi is the magical marketing ploy ball" lol. I also saw their quality is crap on that video where the girl drops one and it shatters.
But this is cool, and you've got me playing with a tennis ball to try it out!
@defacto109 Excellent, thinking for yourself is fun. You might find a tennis ball to be a wee bit small and light, oranges make a good stand in before you get a stage ball.
@SomeKidWithAGuitar1 ummm, no, not just like "juggling a tennis ball". u can watch any clown juggle balls, pins, rabbits--whatever!!! FUSHIGI is a floating ball, its like antigravity or something.

Well in the video he is using 100mm balls which is 4.5 inches, a lot of people use 3 inch balls so it's up to you, but you shouldn't need anything bigger than 4.5 inches. It's probably best to try different sizes, then choose.
hey awesome vid :) i like how u can do the same thing as a fushigi and still make it look awesome as one. im BRAND new here so i have no idea how to do anything on this sight accept post and reply comments
Fushigi's aren't very good. They look nice and are pretty standard 3" balls but the steel center.. I got mine with scratches, smudges, and stains on it, on the inside
@brinechild haha thanx:) i bought a fushigi ball, but i got my doubts. im prolly gonna go like u usin those kinda balls. but everyone orderin them think that the ball does the illusion all on its own...they're wrong...
@brinechild Form an opinion of your own, I haven't used one, but i'm considering buying one just for the fact that they are different than other balls i use, if it is off center it's defective by the way ;)
@TurnYourBrainOn2 Did you watch the video through? 'cos it's pretty nasty. You go for it if you want, I'll stick to orange stageballs, or acrylics if I'm doing street shows. Also, 'form an opinion of your own' is pretty harsh, eh? Keep it in yer pants feller :D
@brinechild i fail to understand why Cjers hate the Fball so much. I use acrylics, but i'm considering obtaining a few of the Fballs, I trust Amazing kenny ;) And your video link doesn't work.
@TurnYourBrainOn2 There are many reasons, the lack of respect that those marketing fushigi showed to those who take it really seriously. The attempts to rebrand it. The 'magic gravity' slogan that has been screwing over performers and buskers and generally ruining it for lots of people that would have liked it before. The ball is hella ugly, every report and video i've seen of it says the inner ball is scuffed and dented. I have issues with Amakzing Kenny charging for his tutorial videos..etc.
@TurnYourBrainOn2 HOWEVER...I like that this has introduced some people to contact who may not have discovered it before. Sure I wish it was happening in a better way, but more friends is always good. Hold off buying a fushigi ball until they've got their manufacturing sorted, if you're an acrylic user you will only be disappointed.
I have a little bit smaller ball that this, and my probelms are that i cant get my fingers to actually come together at the pinch, and my fingers all go together on the release
@iSmashify Just really relax into it, the slower and calmer you can do it, the better and more 'magical' it will look.
If you're using a heavy ball it will take a little while to build up finger strength, just practice a little everyday and streeeeetch after each session.
why do acrylic and fushigi or stage balls cost like 20bucks? They look like a superball to me. Plz, whats so special aboot them? I want one, but im on the fence.
@DynamiteKiwi Find yourself a well weighted ball of about 4" and you're sorted, doesn't matter what the original intention of it was, it'll still roll.
Good acrylics cost a lot because the materials and work involved adds up, bad acrylics shouldn't be bought. Neon Husky appear to do a not too light stage for $10 and they're a respected retailer.
I'm going to push you off that fence onto the side of good, head to contactjuggling(dot)org and sign up at the forum.
theamazingkenny shows a tutorial on how to do this but the way u do it is easier to understand =) im getting a fushigi and i luv ur vids THANK YOU! =)
I was wondering, do you change which direction you turn the ball depending on which direction you are moving it? For instance, do you move the ball counter-clockwise when floating the ball from left to right and then clockwise when floating right to left? (the same ? with floating up and down) Or do you use whichever direction you want depending on style/ routine? Hope you understand my questions lol
@melcabral I'm quite guilty of only learning one direction for this, though I can do both ways I naturally settle into one especially during performances.
Try both and one will probably jump out as being more comfortable. My only big change is shifting the axis for the climbs.
Hey uhm, do you have any suggestions on balls? I've got to buy a new one because the acrylic I got isnt as shatterproof as it was states (broke on carpet. What.) Im looking for something I can perform rolls easily and is somewhat in a tight budget. I've looked at tranquility balls, but Im pretty sure 200grams is alot for me, a 14 year old boy. Well, any help is greatly appriceated ;D you're an awesome juggler
@TheHaZMaTBand Try a stage ball, and as for weight, 400g isn't even a pound :) You can handle it! Best of luck, I don't wanna give you a crappy website cause I bought my sphere locally, but brinechild should know one, or just look around contact juggling(dot)org.
@au5tin222 thanks! Thats what I ended up getting. a MB 100mm stage ball, and I love it. I've asked around, and most of the people suggest something called a "sil-x" ball, but never took the chance to look into it before I got my 100mm.
Today I have decided to put down my poi for a while and pursue single ball contact Juggling. I am a virgin beginner, never having even tried to balance a ball on my hand. I am starting out with a weighted (rice) tennis balls and a waterfilled glitter ball (maybe 100mm or so) that i found at a hobby store. I will post a few videos periodically, and I would love to hear your feedback.
In the meantime, I look forward to working with you and your videos.
I hope it goes well for you, head over to contactjuggling(dot)org and sign up to the forums.
Also those glitterballs, while fun for isolation, are sooo difficult to roll, they have a crazy momentum thing going on. I would try and grab a stage ball asap. You won't regret it
@brinechild How bad are those glitter balls? I have the large size, and it is heavy, but this is my 2nd week on it and I can do rolls, butterfly etc. just fine o.O
He drew a face on the ball so that people would understand how it worked. If he just went with a ball without telemarks, you wouldn't see how it worked.
Haha. Well done! I've been to plenty of music festivals where the dealer of sphereplay balls is showing off his stuff. Pretty amazing. But you seem to be a better teacher ^_^
And the point of instructional videos are so that people can understand how a trick is done and learn, which means you have to make it pretty obvious, otherwise its just a regular video of someone showing off.
Its a brach of juggling its supposed to be intertaining but clearly you have no sense of that the reason for this perticular vid is to teach the tricks to others
thanx man!!!!!! tanks too you im on the road to a great contact juggling performance i just got my ball and now i can do a few tricks when i get better ill send you a video response of it.
Do you find that this one takes a solid ball to really get the best effect? I've been practicing it with an acrylic, and while it looks neat, it doesn't have quite the same "floaty" quality that yours does. These videos are a huge help--keep 'em coming, please!
From my experience acrylics are almost always better for isolation, this move requires a little bit more finger strength to get smooth with a 100mm acrylic.
I use a practice ball 'cos I advise people to learn with a practice ball.
I've got a practice ball on order. The only ball I've got to work with right now is an 85 mm acrylic, and based on your advice I suspect the size is defeating me more than the fact that it's acrylic. Thanks for the consult!
i`ve just got my first contact ball... and im training every day,, but i have e green ball wich is from soft plastic and feels a bit stikcy ( i think 4 the grip) does it matters for the enigma????? please help me out brinechild!!!
Well as you asked so nicely! The stickyness shouldn't be a problem if anything it should help, the thing is you don't slide your fingers on the ball, you roll the ball with them. The light balls are if anything easier because they require less finger strength
Hey, major props dude, to put up with all this flak with such a calm, cool, and funny attitude. I've been using all of your videos that are still up so i could learn this art. I just stumbled on it a few weeks ago, and 3 days ago managed to get a ball at a ren fair, FINALLY, lol. Great videos man, they are amazing!
Hey, I first saw some of these like in April? You had a bunch more, and I cannot find them.. The ones with the fist-palm transfers and just the like very first move with your palms flat and the fingers moving the ball? What happened to those? :( Trying to teach a friend..
so the trick to this is just holding it at least two points at all time, and when doing it fats make it look like your barely touching it, ok thats a good starting lesson for someone who wanted to try it, i don't but at least its alot cooler than those fags that stack cups.
Sort of, the trick is more in the isolation, keeping the ball in one place while you move around it, the speed shouldn't effect the illusion.
This is an idea that is present in pretty much any form of dance or mime, anything involving body illusion really. The concept is simple but mastering it will take you bloody ages.
Cup stacking is less a performance thing, more competitive...but yeah this is cooler ;)
Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the worlds biggest moron "What a waste of time..." yes...this coming from an idiot surfing youtube under the name NICOLAS CAGE...are you that stupid?
"try to get some pussy instead of...playin with your balls" That has got to be the most close-minded thing i've ever heard...he's clearly mad you can impress people, and that he has no god-given gift and is thusly a sack of useless shit left to drift the world in search of a meaning to live : )
I've been attempting the climbing enigma for quite a while now, but all I had to go on was vaguely watching a mate. This vid has helped a lot, so thanks... Though nothing can help me get over the pain of learning a move requiring that much finger strength with naught but an 80mm acrylic.
Your videos rock out! I'm working on solidifying my intermediate techniques right now and you're an immense help. Your teaching style is impeccable. Keep it up!
try following the move while watching the video at the same time, see if it clicks into place. Part of it is building up finger dexterity which will take a little bit of practice time.
so,ive been learning how to contact juggle for a few weeks now, using an oddballs i can find.ive basicly been teaching myself how to roll and move the ball, ive only seen this move a few times and i would try to do it and it allways ended up looking really bad than i realised i wasnt doing it right after i watched this video, thanks so much for posting these!!!!
yeah and after 2 years it's almost (stress almost) starting to be what I want it to be. It takes a lot of patience but it's the reason I started contact juggling

Easy now

I was wondering, do you change which direction you turn the ball depending on which direction you are moving it? For instance, do you move the ball counter-clockwise when floating the ball from left to right and then clockwise when floating right to left? (the same ? with floating up and down) Or do you use whichever direction you want depending on style/ routine? Hope you understand my questions lol
melcabral 1 year ago
@melcabral I'm quite guilty of only learning one direction for this, though I can do both ways I naturally settle into one especially during performances.
Try both and one will probably jump out as being more comfortable. My only big change is shifting the axis for the climbs.
brinechild 1 year ago
Hey uhm, do you have any suggestions on balls? I've got to buy a new one because the acrylic I got isnt as shatterproof as it was states (broke on carpet. What.) Im looking for something I can perform rolls easily and is somewhat in a tight budget. I've looked at tranquility balls, but Im pretty sure 200grams is alot for me, a 14 year old boy. Well, any help is greatly appriceated ;D you're an awesome juggler
TheHaZMaTBand 1 year ago
@TheHaZMaTBand Try a stage ball, and as for weight, 400g isn't even a pound :) You can handle it! Best of luck, I don't wanna give you a crappy website cause I bought my sphere locally, but brinechild should know one, or just look around contact juggling(dot)org.
au5tin222 1 year ago
@au5tin222 thanks! Thats what I ended up getting. a MB 100mm stage ball, and I love it. I've asked around, and most of the people suggest something called a "sil-x" ball, but never took the chance to look into it before I got my 100mm.
TheHaZMaTBand 1 year ago
Dear BrineChild,
Today I have decided to put down my poi for a while and pursue single ball contact Juggling.

You won't regret it
brinechild 1 year ago
@brinechild How bad are those glitter balls? I have the large size, and it is heavy, but this is my 2nd week on it and I can do rolls, butterfly etc. just fine o.O
Will this make it harder to transfer to acrylic?

very nice video!
thanks you! ^^
master19971105 2 years ago
Awesome.. but i find it a little harder to do it with a smaller acrylic ball any suggestions? or do u move it differently?
arturob8 2 years ago
He drew a face on the ball so that people would understand how it worked. If he just went with a ball without telemarks, you wouldn't see how it worked.

And the point of instructional videos are so that people can understand how a trick is done and learn, which means you have to make it pretty obvious, otherwise its just a regular video of someone showing off.

I'm not going to judge without knowing much about, um whatever this is, but whats the point of it?

Its a brach of juggling its supposed to be intertaining but clearly you have no sense of that the reason for this perticular vid is to teach the tricks to others

vardo5 3 years ago
Do you find that this one takes a solid ball to really get the best effect? I've been practicing it with an acrylic, and while it looks neat, it doesn't have quite the same "floaty" quality that yours does. These videos are a huge help--keep 'em coming, please!
RealityApologist 3 years ago
From my experience acrylics are almost always better for isolation, this move requires a little bit more finger strength to get smooth with a 100mm acrylic.
I use a practice ball 'cos I advise people to learn with a practice ball.
brinechild 3 years ago
I've got a practice ball on order. The only ball I've got to work with right now is an 85 mm acrylic, and based on your advice I suspect the size is defeating me more than the fact that it's acrylic. Thanks for the consult!
RealityApologist 3 years ago
i`ve just got my first contact ball... and im training every day,, but i have e green ball wich is from soft plastic and feels a bit stikcy ( i think 4 the grip) does it matters for the enigma????? please help me out brinechild!!!
canthearwithoutmusic 3 years ago
Well as you asked so nicely! The stickyness shouldn't be a problem if anything it should help, the thing is you don't slide your fingers on the ball, you roll the ball with them. The light balls are if anything easier because they require less finger strength
brinechild 3 years ago
Hey, major props dude, to put up with all this flak with such a calm, cool, and funny attitude. I've been using all of your videos that are still up so i could learn this art. I just stumbled on it a few weeks ago, and 3 days ago managed to get a ball at a ren fair, FINALLY, lol. Great videos man, they are amazing!
Urb4n0Ninj4 3 years ago
Hey, I first saw some of these like in April? You had a bunch more, and I cannot find them.. The ones with the fist-palm transfers and just the like very first move with your palms flat and the fingers moving the ball? What happened to those? :( Trying to teach a friend..

Until I saw you commenting on the videos I would have sworn you weren't from an English speaking country lol
LCTDeuce 3 years ago
is that a special ball
lacrosse8011 3 years ago
so the trick to this is just holding it at least two points at all time, and when doing it fats make it look like your barely touching it, ok thats a good starting lesson for someone who wanted to try it, i don't but at least its alot cooler than those fags that stack cups.
joshuahaskellcarr 3 years ago
Sort of, the trick is more in the isolation, keeping the ball in one place while you move around it, the speed shouldn't effect the illusion.
This is an idea that is present in pretty much any form of dance or mime, anything involving body illusion really. The concept is simple but mastering it will take you bloody ages.
Cup stacking is less a performance thing, more competitive...but yeah this is cooler ;)

WheeLHead2, this can actually be used to impress friends and whatnot. It's so much better than your gay Saw VI video.

hey wheel, why don't you own up, and admit that you're madly jealous of this guys insane skill, and dedication to an art, and entertainment?
or keep blindly insulting him and make yourself out as an even bigger douche-bag...that works too.

Though nothing can help me get over the pain of learning a move requiring that much finger strength with naught but an 80mm acrylic.

try following the move while watching the video at the same time, see if it clicks into place. Part of it is building up finger dexterity which will take a little bit of practice time.
