This is so much better than the Francis Ford Copulation crap that is all we get to see on TV these days - I want these 1960's horror films instead. And, I want the good Count to get out of the way so I can get a gander at that candelabrum. I hope the rest of the movie expounded on the clever premise in this scene.
all I know is Horror of Dracula is easily the equal of Lugosi: both so different from the other its a virtual tossup. Glad both were made. And that's it: the original is ONLY Lugosi, the film itself is really pretty damned boring. Seldom has a film so bad been made so utterly compelling by a single actor it was also just about the only thing Lugosi ever did that was truly electifying. Otherwise his staginess just went nowhere fast. But as Dradula, well until Lee came along

Oh I don't know. I thought the film had some good in it. I hated that they tried to explain the monsters through science and how the Frankenstein Monster was so underused in both House films and Abott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, but I thought the performances weren't bad. This scene had me prettty nervous when I first saw it. I thought Carradine did a good job. He's nowhere near as good as Lugosi by any means, but he's got some of the power and charm the role requires.
Now I know why this was the last non-comedy film for Universal's classic era Dracula. He used these same lines on chicks in House of Frankenstein and in Son of Dracula and the dames got wise to his routine.

Carradine resembles quite closely the image of Dracula as Bram Stoker described him in the novel-after Carradine I would say Jack Palance.

Why most dracula movies, moonlight sonata is playing in the background or someone is playing it on the piano? The song freaks me out

Carradine is great in this scene. I would love to see what Lugosi's version would be. I can see him saying all of these lines.

@doctornoooo Not enough Carradine and the Wolfman storyline is very weak.

Not a good film by any means, but a great scene. Dracula has good taste in music.
...and women.

Carradine is a fine actor but it's a crime that Universal didn't allow Lugosi to play Dracula in 'House of Frank' and 'House of Drac.'

@jksonny
i agree entirely. carradine is no gothic actor.
