funny, i've never seen a view from the visitor/student section of robertson stadium. im always there at the middle section 150 at the 50 yard line. i gotta say i feel sorry for the visiting teams when their own band is choreographed to turn their backs to their own fans.
@mattschuab447 are you serious su would have blown ya'll away even while ya'll are playing you see they stole halftime from ya'll face it people just love this band. and a good battle wouldve really shown what the S is all abiout.
@TheDragonmaster18 we have won stand battles with texas tech, rice oklahoma state, utep, smu, tulane, and marshall. southern has a GREAT band. houston is better. always has been. we INVENTED those moves that are in SU's halftime shows.
@mattschuab447 you guys have never battled rice cause we at rice dont battle and every school you mentioned isnot a HBCU school so southern would have out played ya'll like willowridge high school did back in the 2008 thanksgiving day parade.
@mattschuab447 oh and ya'll didnot invent those moves that SU has cause SU and other bands that came before them invented those moves. the two schools that started it all was university of michigan and florida a&m university, u of h never even dances in there shows unless they are playing against a swac school. u of h is good but know where on southerns level.
@TheDragonmaster18 actually they DO dance at their shows, i would know being a season ticket holder for the past 5 years and my parents before me for the past 30. my grandfather was a u of h alum you idiot. thoe visual effects that you see in the marching band shows also know as Patterns in Motion, were created by Dr Bill Moffit. look it up.
@mattschuab447 not really true there is a video on youtube that talks about the history of marching bands and university of michigan was the first college marching band the united states has seen and florida a&m university band came after them, then came everyone else. southern university band has been around longer than u of h has.
@TheDragonmaster18 DR Bill Moffit created Patterns in Motion in the early 60s. after giving an amazing performance on national TV in the late 70s, everyone started to copy Dr Moffit's routine. and every band suddenly got better and better. because of the stunning visual effects. what im watching in this video is almost the same as that late 70s national TV performance i mentioned earlier, with a little tweaking. i have never seen a conductor as crazy as SU's though.
@mattschuab447 oh and by the way the first marching band to ever be on tv was tennesse state university aristicrat of bands. so im asuming you're talking abput them
i go to UH, and even i agree Southern would blow our band out...thats the reason why im not in UH's band..if they played some sick music and have sick field shows then I would join.
they need to match up more quality programs like SU, JSU, FAMU, BSU, NCAT, NSU, Howard against these PWC's. It creates more of a respect thing as each can see different styles
I loved seeing the look on UH's face during the show. They aren't used to a band like this. They play TxSU all the time but their band ain't nothing like SU. It was great seeing SU at UH
Man, I go to U of H, apart of the 13% to 14% of African Americans...this was the highlight of the game...even other races were mesmerized. Good Job SU, real talk.
Well I look forward to hearing more from them. They always make me proud. People always like to criticize, but look forward to the Jukebox coming to town. I like the "brass sound"; I don't want us to sound like everyone else. I like the one drum major, instead of 3, 4, or 5. We are definitely unique. I think some people's perception of the decreased music quality is more due to the type of music thats out these days--just not the same as it use to be.
The Jags look and sound nicely on the field this year. But, the dance routine was subpar. I love my Jags, but I gotta call it like I see it. But hey, we played U of H...so I guess they maybe saving "the good stuff" for later. Thanks Jonesboy 84.
No problem SU1998. I wanted to know have you heard the 08-09 Jaguar band in person yet? I don't know what Mr. Jackson had planned for band camp this year, but apparently it worked. The way they sound this year makes me wished I could still be marching with them. This year's Bayou Classic there won't be a BOTB because them SU warriors is gonna put GSU to shame.
No, Gustav prevented me from hearing them in Tennessee. I started to go by myself (I read about 20 members were missing for the TSU game due to Gustav). But hopefully I'll get a chance to hear them this Saturday if the game isn't canceled against Valley due to Ike. They sound a lot cleaner to me. What are the differences to you?
That's exactly what I thought. They do sound a whole lot cleaner this year. People have been doubting SU for a couple of years saying that they have lost it, but apparently I thought they never left, and the 08-09 edition of the Jaguar band is proving that this year.
