  • "Anyone notice that the aliens are almost always naked?"

Why shouldn't they be? Humans are the ONLY species out of the countless species on the entire planet that wear clothes.

  • @TheGozalus That's right. It makes one wonder why we're the dominant species, because we HAVE to cover up, because we lack fur, hair, feathers and claws. Basically, we're a very weak species.

  • Anybody notice that the aliens are almost always naked?

  • @MrTsurb Try finding an outfit that'd fit those physiques!

  • Nicely shown.

Might I ad, that both the 'original 1953' one and the Spielberg one - although very honourably filmed - were an American approach of the Wells novel.

I do like the 'new touch' about it, but I also like the original story because of its 19th century atmosphere, which gives it an extra special 'thing', by which I mean the extra contrast of 'that' society and SciFi.

A very nice work, that radiates that original atmosphere, is Jeff Wayne's musical work on 'The War Of The Worlds'.

  • If anyone wants me to build and paint their WOTW model kits, message me for info on where to send the kit, and a free quote.

  • I'm not much of an Extra Terrestrial collector myself but seeing the 2005 and 1953 versions of the War of Worlds Extra Terrestrial Beings have a very different scheme! The 2005 one looks not only 'sick' but also very 'sleek and slick' :) Personally I reckon its like a Protoss, Kappa and the Extra Terrestrial from the 1995 Movie Independence Day. Nice collection though - would be good next to Cloverfield or a Goji (Godzilla) display. How much would they cost?

  • I liked the idea for the eye design for the aliens from the older movie, they shoulded keep that in the remake

  • Can you pose each one or are they attatched to their bases for like ever?

  • @TheToa67 Basically, you can really only position them in the one spot without obliterating any of the base details. The '53 Martian comes with alternate arms for posing him with his hands held over his eye as seen in the film when the torch is shone on him. I am about to begin work on a model kit of the 2005 Tripod. I'm looking forward to completing that and posting it here.

  • In H.G.Wells 1898 novel the aliens looked like huge squids and had long tentacles with which they controlled the tripods and caught their victims with.

They could have stayed a little more true to how they were portrayed in the novel.

  • @McLarenMercedes I think Ray Harryhausen's test footage of his proposed film came the closest in HG Wells description of the Martians.

  • I like both designs, although one thing that bugs me about the newer version is the fact that they gave it a roughly human face: two eyes, a snout like nose, and a mouth with a jaw. The 50's design, while cheesy in its own B-movie way, at least has a lot more alien in this respect.

  • @ancalites

If an Alien were to evolve on a planet like earth, or Mars, or a moon like Titan, (most earth like planets/moons in our solar system) it would need a snout of some kind to breath, if it evolved to use audio signals to communicate, it would likely have vocal cords, and maybe a mouth, and of course it would either need eyes, or be able to make a large high pitched sound for Echo-Location.

So a human face shape on an alien, Isn't too far fetched when you think about it.

  • i think it looks like a chinchilla with out the fur on

so basicly ... i think its adorible ;3

  • i think it looks like a chinchilla with out the fur on

    so basicly ... i think its adorbila ;3 <3

  • @AbbyIsMyWeim You're right! The later version is a little too cute I think.

  • I like your model kits.I thought the original Martian had some legs and not what the kit has.But I don't think we get to see that much in the original.Or is it the kit manufacturers interpretation ? I like both designs of the creatures. But the 52 movie

    for suspense and story.

  • @reticulan5 I quite agree with you. The '53 version STILL has the power to enthrall and thrill. As with the original Martian design...This is what the full version of the creature actually looked like! I've seen very rare photographs of the full martian, and it looks like a big slug on the bottom. There were no legs. The model kit was based directly from the original figure built by Charlie Gamora.

  • Wow at the size of those heads.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!

  • i think that if people from the 50's saw the 2005 design, their heads would explode.

  • @me700gnomes Graphic...but quite right!

  • Lol

  • it also has a...TEDDY BEAR?!

    LAWLZ

  • @MrAlchemist009 Yeah. I'm not too sure about what the Teddy was all about, but I also thought it was a cool edition to the base. I painted it in the colour scheme of the Teddy Bear I had when I was a little boy. I also like the idea of the spilled cup of coffee. Clever!

  • 2005 Alien I thought it had two legs.

  • @TheWarboss7 No. Their Tripod machines are designed after their bodies. Watch the basement scene closely. quite creepy the way they move.

  • @Kaffyboy Oh... Thanks. At the end the new alien has pink skin. Possible result of the Human desiase they caught.

  • Those are really cool where did you get them?

  • @A7X50CAL ebay

  • My friend thinks that the birds killed the aliens -,-

  • @HeyJicay Must've been big, savage birds!!! Nah, just tell him it was the bacteria.

  • That Martian is one ugly motherfucker.

  • @Airsoftattack123 You should see it's mother!!!

  • @Kaffyboy Hahahaha

  • wow hahahahaaha the second one scared me

  • @lucca01023 Their bodies were scary, but I thought their faces were just a little too cute for myu liking. Still loved them though!

  • i think it is chocolate milk not coffee it is more reasonable

  • @SuperHaloslayer123 If the planet was being invaded by these ugly little bastards, I think evan a kid with a Teddy would be having a strong cup of Joe to settle his or her nerves :-)

  • STRIDER!

  • and then its comes to life:O

  • @marf7245 Crikey, I hope not! These things are creepy enough without them coming to life!!!!! Thanks for watching!

  • @Kaffyboy haha youre welcome anyway those things are awesmo!!

  • Clover's removed distant cousins. i agree pal...and the creepy thing is..if u listened 2 the dvd commentary. clover was just a baby critter o_o food for thought...

but yeah, the newer looks better than the old... strikes more fear into ur heart than that old thing (if ur a kid.lol)..

  • cool.

  • @DreadTRex i just fuckin said that

  • @Kaffyboy yeah damn nature you scary!

  • new ones the clover feilds brother twice removed

  • @cokekid7 It does kinda look like the Cloverfield monster!

  • @Kaffyboy coincidence? I think not! xD

  • new one looks like cloverfield

  • the new one looks kinda like the cloverfield monster.

  • Random spilt coffee mug

  • @asegala96 Yep. Pretty cool.

  • 2055 comes the next WOTW

  • @UberGhostChicken Why not? It's stll a fabulous design...and it also completes the collection.

  • @Kaffyboy where you buy it

  • @EpicxLegacy Ebay!

  • Very cool excellent paint job Respect from ireland.

  • @JordoF6 Thank you very much. Your comment is most appreciated!

  • A cracking job on those kits there, love the 2005 version, excellent paintjob. The tripod kit is available in the UK from frontier models for around £75. It's 1/144 scale apparently and builds up to about 15" tall. Also has a clear hood and lenses so you can light it up. Might make the coolest bedside lamp youve ever seen!

  • @sparkypadwan I can't WAIT to get my hands on the tripod kit. I wasn't sure if it had been released yet. Thanks for the update!

  • Look, the 1953 martian was made back in 1953 when special effects were down right difficult to do. Each is good for its time.

  • @blindandwatching Absoluely. I thought the original martian was a fantastic design! When I first saw it as a kid, it scared the Hell out of me. I LOVED it!!!

  • i like the 2005 alien.

  • i like the new one.

  • @MsPop698 have u not seen war of the worlds 2. U dont get vaporized u teleport inside the aliens robot walker things

  • @Gmcool24 No im pretty sure you get killed

  • @MsPop698 Indeed we are! Down with Extraterrestrial invaders!!!!!! Seriously, how would they like it if they were invaded by us?!

  • @MsPop698 Then it's agreed! We both stand united in our hatred of saliva-drooling monsters hell-bent on world domination through means of heat rays, tripod machines and other spooky devices?! I like you :-)

  • @MsPop698 The '53 version is wayyyy better! And yes, I am racist against mean alien monsters. I guess you could say I'm an Álienist':-)

  • @MsPop698 They're heathens alright!! Messy coffee-spilling Teddy Bear abducting three legged gits that htey are. They're also ugly...and they probably smell as well :-)

  • @MsPop698 Absolutely! Bloody ignorant aliens!

  • @MsPop698 You know, it's bad enough they come here and invade us and try to take our planet from us, but do they have to be so sloppy about it?!

  • @MsPop698 Not only that, but the coffee's also been spilled!

  • *I meant I'd love to see a MOVIE with the novel's design. Durp

  • Which design do you like better? And did you read the novel? I have to say I was very disappointed in spielberg's aliens especially after he said he was trying to make it more like the novel. I'd love to see a novel with the martian design Wells had written. Maybe you can find a model based on the novel.

  • @qtzlctl2012 I like the design of the alien's body in the remake, but I thought their faces were too cute, in fact, almost friendly. The '53 alien is my favourite because I think it's scarier. I think Spielberg should've redone the original martian with CGI. The only model I've seen based on HG Wells original description was the test footage Ray Harryhausen did when he was contemplating making WOTW. It was kinda like an octopus with a bulbous head. I have read the novel, and I loved it!

  • @Kaffyboy exactly what i thought! Spielberg's weren't scary. Especially the way they played with everything like children. You think starfarers would understand a bicycle. Is that Harryhausen footage on youtube?

Great job on the models btw.

  • @qtzlctl2012 Yes, in factI also loved their tripod machines, but I still prefer Harryhausen's footage is on youtube. Just type in 'Ray Harryhausen Martian'and it'll pop up for you to view. The footage is of the Martian dying of the common cold and falling out of the cylinder. Even Harryhausen's martian looks too friendly though. Yes, I thought the Spielberg aliens were almost childlike in the way they studied things. I also loved their tripod machines, but the '53 machines were more menacing.

  • @Kaffyboy Thnx for pointing me to the test vid. Yeah his alien looks kind of friendly too, it's because both he (in that initial design) and spielberg put humanlike faces on something that's not supposed to be from this world. The wiki page for "martian (war of the worlds)" is what would have been nifty, even if really weird. I remember being amazed how in the book they were just brains that wore their machines like we wear clothes. As for the 53 vs 2005 tripods, I love them both, can't decide!

  • @qtzlctl2012 I have vids here on the martian machines and the diorama I have. Good news is that Pegasus Hobbies, that released these models are soon to release a model kit of the 2005 tripod. I can't WAIT for that one! I thought the remake was a nice tribute to the original film (right down to the cameos at the end by Gene Barry and Ann Robinson). Nice to meet someone with such good taste!!

  • @Kaffyboy I saw the machine models they look great. I can't wait to see the 2005 version either! That machine was pefect to a T to be menacing in that "cool and unsympathetic" way. Man, how he messed up the pilots is beyond me! lol

thanks, always nice to talk with a 50's sci-fi fan! Which reminds me, you should look for Forbidden Planet models, it's the best sci fi movie ever. I have a super-duper dvd version with a robbie robot toy. It's awesome.

  • @qtzlctl2012 The pleasure is mine. i do have a Robby the Robot model kit. I love Forbidden Planet. I thought the use of the theremin in it's theme music was incredible. I do favour WOTW as my all time favourite '50's sci-fi though.

  • @Kaffyboy A lot of my friends have no idea what Forbidden Planet is unfortunately, and they're all skeptical when i tell them techno music (of which I am a huge fan) actually started in the 50's lol

  • where did you get these statues? cuz they look amazing

  • @TheFartking90 Ebay! They are both model kits made by Pegasus Models. I assembled and painted them both. Glad you like ém!

  • Anyone else notice that the 1953 version is similar to "The Masters" from the Tripods?

  • @Lordoftheringwraiths Yes, and the feet of the tripods are the same as the '53's hands. I think that is Spielberg paying homage.

  • To be honest, liked both movies equally. What I dont like about both movies is that the alien in the original seemed more funny then scary, and in the new one steven spielberg has a teenager joining the army because he's angry and it makes it seem like he's so stupid, that he can't realize these are aliens, but humans from other places on earth! what i DO like about both movies is that the aliens in the new movie are scary and good. the old one had a better ending though. i ran out of room sorry

  • Pretty neat detail on those, I think if I were going to have a miniature cup of spilled coffee on the base, I would have done it without milk...since you always see Americans drinking black coffee in the movies. lol

  • @bttfspencer Lol, come to think of it..you're right! I can't remember ever seeing any American in any movie drinking coffee with milk! I just based it on a mess I made in the kitchen a couple of weeks ago :-)
