This video should have never been posted even though he caveats it by saying "it's an obvious mismatch." Both are amazing cars, one for the track/gearhead guy and one for the style/enjoy a night out in town guy. That's the way I see these two cars…very different. I am not a track guy, so M3 is not practical for me. I have an S5 and absolutely love it. The S5 is a beauty to look at and I am reminded everyday by people and the M3 is an amazing benchmark for a street legal track car.
@MSimeon31585 What are you talking about? The RS5 isn't even out yet (not until the 2012 model year). You must be thinking of the RS4, but just remember that the outgoing RS4 is based on the last gen A4, there is no CURRENT GEN RS anything from Audi right now.
1.If the current S5 has identical times as the current RS4 (and with a lesser engine, no less), then it's only logical to think that the upcoming RS5 will be faster than the outgoing RS4 in order to be a step up from the S5. That's just common sense. Who would produce a sportier version of a car and not make it faster?
2.They will not use the same engine. The RS5 will use a thoroughly revised 4.2 V8 producing 450hp and redlining at 8,500rpms.
BMW always get mark down on interior design, wonder why they haven't done anything abou it, if they update the M3 then that could be the best car in the world.
obviously the M3 could demolish the S5 - the S5 is the competitor to the 335i NOT the M3.

I'd rather have the M3. Its better performing, RWD, and is a lot more customizable. I have a 2007 Audi S4 and love it. I am in the market for a new car. I considered the RS5 next year. No Manual, no RS5 for me. Optioned out, new S4 is approx. 65K. Same options M3 is 69K. So sorry Audi!! M3 has V8 vs. S4 V6 (supercharged). 85 more HP and V8 in M3 wins me over. Audi interiors are nicer but I am buying performance. What is Audi thinking? I've test driven an m3, and one of my best friends owns a GTR, and I can definitely tell you from personal experience that the choice between the two is definitely down to personal preference. The GTR is superior on paper, but I personally would NEVER choose one over the m3 after having driven both. Totally different cars.

I think its amazing how close the numbers are considering a 60HP handicap for the S5. People are talking smack when a proven performer like the M3 has SLIGHTLY better numbers when it has 60 more horses than the S5. Screw your heads on people! I think they did the comparison for fun, or are biased and making a commercial for the M3. For the record, I've had an M3 and an RS4. I'm now an Audi enthusiast, but still have love for the M.

I like both, I'm a huge BMW fan, but Audi's is coming out with some attractive cars. 335i for me. Their AWD system is great also, but BMW does have X-drive. When I tested them both they're pretty equal under normal driving conditions.

Yes, guys at insidelinevideo, this is one bad comparison, why? Because the M3 has a full sports pack while the S5 is looser, the RS5 on the other hand will be the direct competitor for the M3 coupé, the difference between the S5 & RS5 is not under the hood. Think before reviewing such things, this is a great mismatch, it should have been the 335I
who cares what's on paper... take both of these cars out for a test drive. I love all cars but I will tell you that the M3 is significantly more engaging and fun... it feels lighter, easier to toss around, hell it's basically a race car. The S5 rumbles but it still feels like a boat and a touring car. I swear it makes complete sense once you get behind the wheel (assuming you aren't used to and enjoy driving trucks). That said, I picked up a 2010 S4 about a month ago... love it :)

I'd rather have the M3. Its better performing, RWD, and is a lot more customizable. I'd go for a new M3 with the competition package, maybe get some of those carbon fiber exterior add-ons BMW is now offering, and then head straight to Dinan for exhaust, intake, and maybe even their 4.6 liter V8 ( you never know).

I have a 2007 Audi S4 and love it. I am in the market for a new car. I considered the RS5 next year. No Manual, no RS5 for me. Optioned out, new S4 is approx. 65K. Same options M3 is 69K. So sorry Audi!! M3 has V8 vs. S4 V6 (supercharged). 85 more HP and V8 in M3 wins me over. Audi interiors are nicer but I am buying performance. What is Audi thinking? Love Audis (owned 5 in a row) but they are pricing and optioning their cars in a shoddy manner for performance lovers. Damn shame. New M3 for me.

Ok if your going to spend pretty much 70k on that M3 you should just buck up and drop another 10k and get the best sports car in the buisness hands down, the GT-R.Its better at everything, i mean everything. More spacious seating, bigger boot, better engine, better handling. Oh and it looks better too! I love my european cars but the Nissan has it all for less!

@TheIdahogunman more spacious seating?! are you kidding me? Have you seen the back seat of a GTR? with the front seats pushed back they TOUCH the back seats.... I've test driven an m3, and one of my best friends owns a GTR, and I can definitely tell you from personal experience that the choice between the two is definitely down to personal preference. The GTR is superior on paper, but I personally would NEVER choose one over the m3 after having driven both. Totally different cars.

I think its amazing how close the numbers are considering a 60HP handicap for the S5. People are talking smack when a proven performer like the M3 has SLIGHTLY better numbers when it has 60 more horses than the S5. Screw your heads on people! I think they did the comparison for fun, or are biased and making a commercial for the M3. For the record, I've had an M3 and an RS4. I'm now an Audi enthusiast, but still have love for the M.

No question the M3 is a better sports car, and I think the people who made this video agree. I think they showed this video to show that Audi is coming up, while I'd take the M3 over the S5 on a track, for daily driving I prefer the audi. (s4, rs4 or s5)

I like both, I'm a huge BMW fan, but Audi's is coming out with some attractive cars. 335i for me. Their AWD system is great also, but BMW does have X-drive. When I tested them both they're pretty equal under normal driving conditions.

Obviously you don't know anything about cars. The S5 is in the same segment as the 335i, not the M3. Audi's base A5 would be in the same market as the base 3 series, the S5 for the 335i segment, and then the RS5 would be for the M3 market. The same model for A4,S4,RS4. Get it right PLEASE!!

lamborghini229 - Audi isn't stupid. Luxury cars are priced cheaper in the U.S. than other places. No way they price it at 100k in the U.S. (if they send it there). That's the amount of the R8. That's why the RS6 wasn't sent to America...they said they would have to price it too close to the R8.

Because the M3 has a full sports pack while the S5 is looser, the RS5 on the other hand will be the direct competitor for the M3 coupé, the difference between the S5 & RS5 is not under the hood. Think before reviewing such things, this is a great mismatch, it should have been the 335I

who cares what's on paper... take both of these cars out for a test drive. I love all cars but I will tell you that the M3 is significantly more engaging and fun... it feels lighter, easier to toss around, hell it's basically a race car. The S5 rumbles but it still feels like a boat and a touring car. I swear it makes complete sense once you get behind the wheel (assuming you aren't used to and enjoy driving trucks). That said, I picked up a 2010 S4 about a month ago... love it :)

I still like the S/RS5 design more than the M3. Its less aggressive, still sporty and elegant... timeless, u never get boring looking at it.

I really dont think an E92 is faster from 0-60 than a C6 vette coupe. Sorry but the power to weight just inst there not to mention the vette has way more tq at lower rpms than the E92. It does take corners very well for a heavy car but 4.3 seconds... so a Z06 is just slightly slower? cmon edmunds.

i guess this test needs a remake as the RS5 Coupe is announced & released in Europe.
S5 Coupe is competetive to the 335i
RS5 equals the M3.
It has an V8 with 450hp.
Am looking forward to the first tests as i struggle ordering either a M3 Coupe or the new RS5 Coupe. Both outstanding and beautiful cars.

Audi stands for & new era & innovation, something that BMW is having a hard time keeping up with. 2009/2010 Audi definitely took the lead, Even the imrpoved quattro system of 2010 makes all RWD bmw's bite the dust in any situation, every road, every track.
