My absoulute favorite CYT musical! (not movie, just the muscial). Go CYTchicago!! way better than the disney version and so much more historically correct!
@BelLab0beLla9182 Dude you are rigth in so many different ways. I understand where your coming from. This video here did offend me too. Now before you ask I am not pure Native American, I'm Mostly African American, but my so many great grandparents were Native. But being of two nationalities where my ancestors were persecuted and mistreated because of ignorance and arrogance I can understand you backround. Now I believe this video is pretty racially incorrect. with the outfits for one.........
@BelLab0beLla9182 and the casting for another reason. I know CYT has great talent that is either of Native decent or looks native. Now I am a Proud CYTer of Chicago and we put this musical on a few years ago and I absolutely loved it. Now to explain, the musical that I was in wasn't like this video, eventhough it was the Legend of Pocahontas. We stayed as close to the actual history with our actors actresses and such. All our guys weren't half dresed and our girls had on some resemblance to.....
@BelLab0beLla9182 native wear of that time. Those that portrayed Indians and were nothing but white, all of them got Spray tans and most dyed thier hair to look more like the people they were portraying. So that aspect of the musical was sortof correct. The only thing that I can say that wasn't historically or racially correct was the "indian calls" that we did. Most of the people were mocking it, but they were kids and I hope they didn't understand what they were doing........
@BelLab0beLla9182 But other than that, the musical was a wonderful story about our history. The legend of a wonderful girl named Matoaka (Pocahontas) who saved her people by risking her life and becoming captive. Now this story I can truly say is the closest version to her story that I have ever heard. Just to add something else. When we put this musical on we even went to a museum and learned about how the Indians lived back then. So we tried to be as Historically correct as possible.
@anna123isabella ur right! we should stop making useless musicals that people spend months rehearsing and weeks performing and go home to our computers and make useless, critical, and forgettable comments on other people's hard work! LOVE CYT! keep up the good work and ignore comments like this!
@anna123isabella i think its wrong to call this racist, actually! they are telling this amazing story through music and its a beautiful score! the costumes aren't even a huge deal and its supposed to be a modern twist on the story
@anna123isabella this story is the actual historic event. They are not try to be racist and i don't see how u can think they are. as far as ur comment on casting, its more wrong and racist to type cast! which means casting someone based on looks and not talent! And, Pochahontas was 14 in this version, and i think that pretty accurate to history. stop insulting their hard work for attention! which, by the way im done giving to u. this is my last comment on the matter. Good job cyt!
